1 Rois 1

1 Or, le roi David était devenu vieux, et il comptait un grand nombre de jours de vie; et quoiqu’il fût couvert de vêtements, il ne se réchauffait pas.

Now when King Dauid was olde, and striken in yeeres, they couered him with clothes, but no heate came vnto him.

2 Ses serviteurs lui dirent donc: Cherchons pour notre seigneur le roi une jeune fille vierge, afin qu’elle se tienne devant le roi, qu’elle le soigne, dorme sur son sein, et réchauffe notre seigneur le roi.

Wherefore his seruants saide vnto him, Let there be sought for my lord ye King a yong virgin, and let her stand before the king, and cherish him: and let her lie in thy bosome, that my lord the King may get heate.

3 Ils cherchèrent donc une jeune fille, belle, dans tous les confins d’Israël; et ils trouvèrent Abisag, la Sunamite, et ils l’amenèrent au roi.

So they sought for a faire young maide thoroughout all the coastes of Israel, and founde one Abishag a Shunamite, and brought her to the king.

4 Or, c’était une fille très belle, et elle dormait avec le roi, et elle le servait; mais le roi ne la connut pas.

And the maid was exceeding faire, and cherished the king, and ministred to him, but the King knew her not.

5 Cependant Adonias, fils d’Haggith, s’élevait, disant: C’est moi qui régnerai. Et il se procura des chars et des cavaliers, et cinquante hommes pour courir devant lui.

Then Adoniiah the sonne of Haggith exalted himselfe, saying, I will be king. And he gate him charets and horsemen, and fiftie men to run before him.

6 Jamais son père ne le reprit, disant: Pourquoi as-tu fait cela? Or, Adonias était aussi très beau, et le second après Absalom.

And his father would not displease him from his childehood, to say, Why hast thou done so? And hee was a very goodly man, and his mother bare him next after Absalom.

7 Et il avait des entretiens avec Joab, fils de Sarvia, et avec Abiathar, le prêtre, qui soutenaient le parti d’Adonias.

And he tooke counsel of Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah, and of Abiathar the Priest: and they helped forward Adoniiah.

8 Mais Sadoc, le prêtre, Banaïas, fils de Joïada, Nathan, le prophète. Séméi, Réi, et la force de l’armée de David, n’étaient pas avec Adonias.

But Zadok the Priest, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and Nathan the Prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the men of might, which were with Dauid, were not with Adoniiah.

9 Adonias, ayant donc immolé des béliers, des veaux et toutes les victimes grasses, près de la pierre de Zohéleth, qui était voisine de la fontaine de Rogel, appela tous ses frères, fils du roi, et tous les hommes de Juda, serviteurs du roi.

Then Adoniiah sacrificed sheepe and oxen, and fat cattel by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and called all his brethren the kings sonnes, and al the men of Iudah ye Kings seruants,

10 Mais Nathan, le prophète, Banaïas, tous les hommes vigoureux, et Salomon, son frère, il ne les appela point.

But Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah, and the mightie men, and Salomon his brother hee called not.

11 C’est pourquoi Nathan dit à Bethsabée, mère de Salomon: Avez-vous ouï dire qu’Adonias, fils d’Haggith, a été fait roi, et notre seigneur David l’ignore?

Wherefore Nathan spake vnto Bath-sheba the mother of Salomon, saying, Hast thou not heard, that Adoniiah ye sonne of Haggith doeth reigne, and Dauid our lord knoweth it not?

12 Maintenant donc venez, et recevez un conseil de moi: sauvez votre vie et celle de votre fils Salomon.

Now therefore come, and I will now giue thee counsell, howe to saue thine owne life, and the life of thy sonne Salomon.

13 Allez, et entrez chez le roi David, et dites-lui: N’est-ce pas vous, mon seigneur le roi, qui avez juré, à moi votre servante, disant: Salomon ton fils régnera après moi, et c’est lui qui sera assis sur mon trône? Pourquoi donc Adonias règne-t-il?

Go, and get thee in vnto King Dauid, and say vnto him, Didest not thou, my lorde, O King, sweare vnto thine handmaide, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and he shall sit vpon my throne? why is then Adoniiah King?

14 Et tandis que vous parlerez encore au roi, moi je viendrai après vous, et je compléterai vos discours.

Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the King, I also will come in after thee, and confirme thy wordes.

15 C’est pourquoi Bethsabée entra chez le roi, dans sa chambre: or, le roi était fort vieux, et Abisag, la Sunamite, le servait.

So Bath-sheba went in vnto the King into the chamber, and the King was verie olde, and Abishag the Shunammite ministred vnto ye King.

16 Bethsabée s’inclina et se prosterna devant le roi. Le roi lui dit: Que veux-tu?

And Bath-sheba bowed and made obeisance vnto the King. And the King saide, What is thy matter?

17 Bethsabée répondant, dit: Mon seigneur, c’est vous qui avez juré par le Seigneur votre Dieu à votre servante: Salomon ton fils régnera après moi, et c’est lui qui sera assis sur mon trône.

And shee answered him, My lorde, thou swarest by the Lord thy God vnto thine handmaide, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and he shall sit vpon my throne.

18 Et voilà qu’Adonias règne, vous, mon seigneur le roi, l’ignorant.

And beholde, nowe is Adoniiah king, and now, my lord, O King, thou knowest it not.

19 Il a immolé des bœufs, toutes les victimes grasses, et un grand nombre de béliers; et il a appelé tous les enfants du roi, même Abiathar, le prêtre, et Joab, prince de la milice; mais Salomon votre serviteur, il ne l’a pas appelé.

And he hath offred many oxen, and fatte cattel, and sheepe, and hath called all the sonnes of the King, and Abiathar the Priest, and Ioab the captaine of the hoste: but Salomon thy seruant hath he not bidden.

20 Cependant, mon seigneur le roi, c’est sur vous que sont fixés les yeux de tout Israël, afin que vous leur déclariez, mon seigneur le roi, qui doit être assis sur votre trône après vous.

And thou, my lorde, O King, knowest that the eyes of all Israel are on thee, that thou shouldest tell them, who shoulde sit on the throne of my lord the King after him.

21 Car il arrivera que, lorsque mon seigneur le roi se sera endormi avec ses pères, nous serons, moi et mon fils Salomon, des criminels.

For els when my lord the King shall sleepe with his fathers, I and my sonne Salomon shalbe reputed vile.

22 Bethsabée parlant encore avec le roi, Nathan, le prophète vint.

And lo, while she yet talked with the King, Nathan also the Prophet came in.

23 Et on l’annonça au roi, en disant: Nathan le prophète est là. Et lorsqu’il fut entré en présence du roi, et qu’il se fut prosterné devant lui, incliné vers la terre,

And they tolde the King, saying, Beholde, Nathan the Prophet. And when he was come in to the King, hee made obeisance before the King vpon his face to the ground.

24 Nathan dit. Mon seigneur le roi, est-ce vous qui avez dit: Qu’Adonias règne après moi, et que ce soit lui qui soit assis sur mon trône?

And Nathan saide, My lorde, O King, hast thou said, Adoniiah shall reigne after mee, and he shall sit vpon my throne?

25 Parce qu’il est descendu aujourd’hui, il a immolé des bœufs et des victimes grasses et un grand nombre de béliers, et il a appelé tous les fils du roi, les princes de l’armée, et même Abiathar, le prêtre; et ils ont mangé et bu avec lui, disant: Vive le roi Adonias!

For hee is gone downe this day, and hath slaine many oxen, and fat cattel, and sheepe, and hath called al the Kings sonnes, and the captaines of the hoste, and Abiathar the Priest: and behold, they eate and drinke before him, and say, God saue King Adoniiah.

26 Mais moi, votre serviteur, et Sadoc, le prêtre, et Banaïas, fils de Joïada, et Salomon, votre serviteur, il ne nous a pas appelés.

But me thy seruant, and Zadok the Priest, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and thy seruant Salomon hath he not called.

27 Est-ce de mon seigneur le roi que cela vient, et ne m’avez-vous point déclaré, à moi, votre serviteur, qui était celui qui devait être assis sur le trône de mon seigneur le roi, après lui?

Is this thing done by my lord the King, and thou hast not shewed it vnto thy seruant, who should sitte on the throne of my lorde the King after him?

28 Et le roi David répondit, disant: Appelez auprès de moi Bethsabée. Bethsabée étant entrée devant le roi, et se tenant devant lui,

Then King Dauid answered, and saide, Call me Bath-sheba. And shee came into ye Kings presence, and stoode before the King.

29 Le roi jura, et dit: Le Seigneur vit, lui qui a délivré mon âme de toute angoisse!

And the King sware, saying, As the Lord liueth, who hath redeemed my soule out of all aduersitie,

30 Comme je l’ai juré par le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, disant: Salomon ton fils régnera après moi, et c’est lui qui sera assis sur mon trône en ma place, ainsi ferai-je aujourd’hui.

That as I sware vnto thee by the Lord God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Salomon thy sonne shall reigne after me, and hee shall sit vpon my throne in my place, so will I certainely doe this day.

31 Bethsabée, le visage baissé vers la terre, se prosterna devant le roi, disant: Que mon Seigneur David vive à jamais!

Then Bath-sheba bowed her face to the earth, and did reuerence vnto the King, and said, God saue my lord King Dauid for euer.

32 Le roi David dit encore: Appelez Sadoc le prêtre, Nathan le prophète, et Banaïas, fils de Joïada. Lorsqu’ils furent entrés devant le roi,

And King Dauid saide, Call mee Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada. And they came before the King.

33 Il leur dit: Prenez avez vous les serviteurs de votre maître; faites monter Salomon mon fils sur ma mule, et conduisez-le à Gihon;

Then the King said vnto them, Take with you the seruants of your lorde, and cause Salomon my sonne to ride vpon mine owne mule, and carie him downe to Gihon.

34 Et que Sadoc le prêtre, et Nathan le prophète, l’oignent, en ce lieu, roi d’Israël; et vous sonnerez de la trompette, et vous direz: Vive le roi Salomon!

And let Zadok the Priest and Nathan the Prophet anoint him there King ouer Israel, and blowe ye the trumpet, and say, God saue king Salomon.

35 Et vous monterez après lui; et il viendra, et il s’assiéra sur mon trône, et c’est lui qui régnera en ma place, et je lui ordonnerai d’être chef sur Israël et sur Juda.

Then come vp after him, that hee may come and sit vpon my throne: and hee shall bee King in my steade: for I haue appointed him to be prince ouer Israel and ouer Iudah.

36 Et Banaïas, fils de Joïada, répondit au roi, disant: Amen; que le Seigneur Dieu de mon seigneur le roi parle ainsi.

Then Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada answered the King, and said, So be it, and the Lord God of my lord the King ratifie it.

37 Comme le Seigneur a été avec mon seigneur le roi, ainsi soit-il avec Salomon, et qu’il élève son trône encore plus haut que le trône de mon seigneur, le roi David.

As the Lord hath bene with my lorde the King, so be he with Salomon, and exalt his throne aboue the throne of my lorde king Dauid.

38 Sadoc, le prêtre, descendit donc, ainsi que Nathan le prophète, Banaïas, fils de Joïada, les Céréthiens et les Phéléthiens; et ils firent monter Salomon sur la mule du roi David, et ils le conduisirent à Gihon.

So Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went downe and caused Salomon to ride vpon king Dauids mule, and brought him to Gihon.

39 Et Sadoc, le prêtre, prit la corne d’huile du tabernacle, et oignit Salomon; et ils sonnèrent de la trompette, et tout le peuple dit: Vive le roi Salomon!

And Zadok the Priest tooke an horne of oyle out of the Tabernacle, and anointed Salomon: and they blewe the trumpet, and all the people said, God saue king Salomon.

40 Et toute la multitude monta après lui, et une troupe de joueurs de flûte et de gens qui se réjouissaient d’une grande joie, et la terre retentit de leur clameur.

And all the people came vp after him, and the people piped with pipes, and reioyced with great ioye, so that the earth rang with the sound of them.

41 Or, Adonias entendit, et tous ceux qui avaient été invités par lui; mais le festin était déjà achevé; et Joab aussi, ayant ouï le son de la trompette, dit: Que veut dire cette clameur de la ville en tumulte?

And Adoniiah and all the ghestes that were with him, heard it: (and they had made an ende of eating) and when Ioab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, What meaneth this noise and vprore in the citie?

42 Joab parlant encore, Jonathas, fils d’Abiathar le prêtre, vint. Adonias lui dit: Entre, parce que tu es un homme vaillant, et nous annonçant de bonnes choses.

And as he yet spake, beholde, Ionathan the sonne of Abiathar the Priest came: and Adoniiah said, Come in: for thou art a worthie man, and bringest good tidings.

43 Et Jonathas répondit à Adonias: Nullement, car notre seigneur, le roi David, a établi roi Salomon;

And Ionathan answered, and said to Adoniiah, Verely our lord King Dauid hath made Salomon King.

44 Et il a envoyé avec lui Sadoc le prêtre, Nathan le prophète, Banaïas, fils de Joïada, les Céréthiens et les Phéléthiens, et ils l’ont fait monter sur la mule du roi.

And the King hath sent with him Zadok the Priest, and Nathan the Prophet, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they haue caused him to ride vpon the Kings mule.

45 Et Sadoc le prêtre, et Nathan le prophète, l’ont oint roi à Gihon; et ils sont montés de là en se réjouissant; et la ville a retenti. C’est là le bruit que vous avez entendu.

And Zadok the Priest, and Nathan ye Prophet haue anointed him King in Gihon: and they are gone vp from thence with ioy, and the citie is moued: this is the noise that ye haue heard.

46 Et Salomon même est déjà assis sur le trône du royaume.

And Salomon also sitteth on the throne of the kingdome.

47 Et les serviteurs du roi, étant entrés, ont félicité notre seigneur, le roi David, disant: Que Dieu étende le nom de Salomon plus que votre nom, et qu’il élève son trône au-dessus de votre trône. Et le roi a adoré le Seigneur dans son lit,

And moreouer the Kings seruantes came to blesse our lord King Dauid, saying, God make the name of Salomon more famous then thy name, and exalt his throne aboue thy throne: therefore the King worshipped vpon the bed.

48 Et a dit: Béni le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, qui a fait asseoir aujourd’hui mon fils sur mon trône, mes yeux le voyant!

And thus sayd the King also, Blessed bee the Lord God of Israel, who hath made one to sit on my throne this day, euen in my sight.

49 Ils furent donc effrayés, et ils se levèrent, tous ceux qui avaient été invités par Adonias et chacun s’en alla en sa voie.

Then all the ghestes that were with Adonijah, were afraide, and rose vp, and went euery man his way.

50 Mais Adonias, craignant Salomon, se leva et s’en alla, et saisit la corne de l’autel.

And Adonijah fearing the presence of Salomon, arose and went, and tooke holde on the hornes of the altar.

51 Et on l’annonça à Salomon, en disant: Voilà Adonias, qui, craignant le roi Salomon, s’est attaché à la corne de l’autel, disant: Que le roi Salomon me jure aujourd’hui qu’il ne frappera point son serviteur du glaive.

And one tolde Salomon, saying, Beholde, Adonijah doeth feare King Salomon: for lo, he hath caught holde on the hornes of the altar, saying, Let King Salomon sweare vnto me this day, that he will not slay his seruant with the sword.

52 Et Salomon dit: S’il est un homme de bien, il ne tombera pas même un seul de ses cheveux sur la terre; mais s’il se trouve du mal en lui, il mourra.

Then Salomon sayd, If he will shewe him selfe a worthy man, there shall not an heare of him fall to the earth, but if wickednes be found in him, he shall dye.

53 Le roi Salomon envoya donc, et le fit retirer de l’autel. Et, étant entré, il se prosterna devant le roi Salomon; et Salomon lui dit: Va en ta maison.

Then King Salomon sent, and they brought him from the altar, and he came and did obeisance vnto King Salomon. And Salomon sayde vnto him, Go to thine house.
