1 Or, il arriva que lorsque Salomon eut achevé l’édifice de la maison du Seigneur, l’édifice du roi, et tout ce qu’il avait souhaité et voulu faire,
And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord, and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he was pleased to execute:
2 Le Seigneur lui apparut une seconde fois, comme il lui avait apparu à Gabaon.
That the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gib'on.
3 Et le Seigneur lui dit: J’ai exaucé ta prière et tes supplications que tu as faites devant moi: j’ai sanctifié cette maison que tu as bâtie, afin que j’y établisse mon nom à jamais; et mes yeux et mon cœur seront là tous les jours.
And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast offered before me; I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there at all times.
4 Toi aussi tu marches devant moi comme a marché ton père, dans la simplicité de cœur et dans l’équité; et si tu fais tout ce que je t’ai ordonné, et que tu gardes mes lois et mes ordonnances,
And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in rectitude, to do in accordance with all that I have commanded thee, [and] wilt keep my statutes and my ordinances:
5 J’établirai le trône de ton règne sur Israël à jamais, comme je l’ai promis à David ton père, disant: Un homme de ta race ne sera pas ôté du trône d’Israël.
Then will I establish the throne of thy kingdom over Israel for ever; as I have spoken concerning David thy father, saying, There shall never fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.
6 Mais si vous vous détournez entièrement, vous et vos fils, ne me suivant pas, et ne gardant pas mes commandements et mes cérémonies que je vous ai exposés; et si vous vous en allez, et que vous serviez des dieux étrangers et que vous les adoriez,
But if ye will at all turn away, ye or your children, from following me, and will not keep my commandments [and] my statutes which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down to them:
7 J’enlèverai Israël de la surface de la terre que je lui ai donnée; et le temple que j’ai consacré à mon nom, je le rejetterai loin de ma présence, et Israël deviendra le brocard et la fable de tous les peuples.
Then will I cut off Israel from the face of the land which I have given them; and the house, which I have hallowed unto my name, will I cast away from my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a by-word among all the nations;
8 Et cette maison sera en exemple; et quiconque passera auprès d’elle sera étonné, sifflera, et dira: Pourquoi le Seigneur a-t-il fait ainsi à cette terre et à cette maison?
And at this house, [which] should be so exalted, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and men will say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
9 Et on répondra: Parce qu’ils ont abandonné le Seigneur leur Dieu, qui a retiré leurs pères de l’Egypte, et qu’ils ont suivi des dieux étrangers, et qu’ils les ont adorés et servis: c’est pour cela que le Seigneur a amené sur eux ce malheur.
And they shall say, For the cause that they forsook the Lord their God, who had brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and took hold of other gods, and bowed down to them, and served them: therefore hath the Lord brought upon them all this evil.
10 Or, vingt ans s’étant écoulés après que Salomon eut bâti les deux maisons, c’est-à-dire la maison du Seigneur et la maison du roi,
And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the Lord, and the king's house,
11 (Hiram, roi de Tyr, fournissant à Salomon des bois de cèdre et de sapin, et de l’or tout autant qu’il en avait besoin) alors Salomon donna à Hiram vingt villes dans la terre de Galilée.
(Now Hiram the king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar-trees and fir-trees, and with gold, according to all his desire, ) that king Solomon then gave to Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.
12 Et Hiram sortit de Tyr pour voir les villes que lui avait données Salomon, et elles ne lui plurent pas,
And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; but they were not right in his eyes.
13 Et il dit: Sont-ce là les villes que vous m’avez données, mon frère? Et il les appela terre de Chabul, jusqu’à ce jour.
And he said, What kind of cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them, The land of Cabul, until this day.
14 Hiram envoya aussi au roi Salomon cent vingt talents d’or.
And Hiram sent to the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold.
15 Telle est la somme des dépenses que Salomon fit pour bâtir la maison du Seigneur, sa maison, Mello, les murs de Jérusalem, Héser, Mageddo et Gaser.
And this is the manner of the levy which king Solomon raised, to build the house of the Lord, and his own house, and the Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Chazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.
16 Pharaon, roi d’Egypte, monta, et prit Gazer et la mit à feu; et il battit le Chananéen qui habitait dans la ville, et il la donna pour dot à sa fille, femme de Salomon.
(Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and captured Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it as a marriage-present unto his daughter, Solomon's wife.
17 Salomon rebâtit donc Gazer et Béthoron la basse,
And Solomon built Gezer, and lower Beth-choron,
18 Baalath et Palmyre, dans la terre du désert.
And Ba'alath, and Thadmor in the wilderness, in the land,
19 Et il fortifia tous les bourgs qui lui appartenaient et qui étaient sans mur, et les villes des chars, et les villes des cavaliers, et tout ce qu’il lui plut de bâtir dans Jérusalem, sur le Liban, et dans toute la terre de sa puissance.
And all the treasure-cities that Solomon had, and the cities for the chariots, and the cities for the horsemen, and the [other] desire of Solomon which he desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.)
20 Quant à tout le peuple qui était demeuré des Amorrhéens, des Héthéens, des Phérézéens, des Hévéens et des Jébuséens, qui ne sont point des enfants d’Israël,
All the people that were left of the Emorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel,
21 Et quant à leurs enfants, qui étaient demeurés dans la terre, c’est-à-dire ceux que les Israélites n’avaient pu exterminer, Salomon les a faits tributaires jusqu’à ce jour.
Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel had not been able utterly to destroy, these did Solomon levy as tributary laborers until this day.
22 Mais pour les enfants d’Israël, Salomon établit qu’aucun ne servirait; mais ils étaient ses hommes de guerre; et il en fit ses ministres, ses principaux officiers, les chefs de son armée et les commandants de ses chars et de ses chevaux.
Yet of the children of Israel did Solomon make no one a bond-man; but they were the men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and the officers of his chariots, and of his horsemen.
23 Or, les principaux officiers préposés à tous les travaux de Salomon étaient au nombre de cinq cent cinquante, qui avaient le peuple sous eux, et qui commandaient les travaux entrepris.
These [also] were the chiefs of the superintendents that were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, who ruled over the people that wrought on the work.
24 Or la fille de Pharon monta de la cité de David en sa maison, que lui avait bâtie Salomon; ce fut alors que le roi bâtit Mello.
But Pharaoh's daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which he had built for her: then did he build the Millo.
25 Salomon offrait aussi trois fois chaque année des holocaustes et des victimes pacifiques sur l’autel qu’il avait bâti au Seigneur, et il brûlait du parfum devant le Seigneur; et le temple avait été achevé.
And Solomon did offer three times in every year burnt-offerings and peace-offerings upon the altar which he had built unto the Lord, and he burnt incense upon the one that was before the Lord. So he finished the house.
26 Le roi Salomon équipa aussi une flotte à Asiongaber, qui est près d’Ailath, sur le rivage de la mer Rouge, dans la terre d’Idumée.
And king Solomon made a ship in 'Ezyon-geber, which is near Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.
27 Et Hiram envoya sur cette flotte ses serviteurs, matelots, et connaissant la mer, avec les serviteurs de Salomon.
And Hiram sent in the ship his servants, seamen, that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.
28 Et lorsqu’ils furent venus en Ophir, ils y prirent quatre cent vingt talents d’or et les apportèrent au roi Salomon.
And they came to Ophir, and fetched from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.
