1 Il arriva donc, à la quatre cent quatre-vingtième année de la sortie des enfants d’Israël de la terre d’Egypte, à la quatrième année du règne de Salomon sur Israël, au mois de Zio (c’est le second mois de l’année), que l’on commença à bâtir la maison du Seigneur.
Then it happened that, in the four hundred and eightieth year after the sons of Israel departed from the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of the reign of Solomon over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, the house of the Lord began to be built.
2 Or la maison que bâtissait au Seigneur le roi Salomon avait soixante coudées en longueur, vingt coudées en largeur et trente coudées en hauteur.
Now the house, which king Solomon was building to the Lord, was sixty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in width, and thirty cubits in height.
3 Et le portique devant le temple était de vingt coudées de longueur, selon la mesure de la largeur du temple, et il avait dix coudées de largeur, devant la face du temple.
And a portico was before the temple, of twenty cubits in length, in accord with the measure of the width of the temple. And it had ten cubits of width before the face of the temple.
4 Et il fit au temple des fenêtres obliques.
And he made oblique windows in the temple.
5 Et il bâtit sur la muraille du temple des étages, tout autour, à côté des murailles de la maison à l’entour du temple et de l’oracle; et il fit des bas-côtés alentour.
And upon the wall of the temple, he built panels on all sides, in the walls of the house around the temple and the oracle. And he made side chambers all around.
6 L’étage d’en bas avait cinq coudées de largeur, l’étage du milieu six coudées de largeur, et le troisième étage avait sept coudées de largeur. Mais il mit des poutres à la maison tout autour en dehors, de sorte qu’elles n’étaient pas attachées aux murs du temple.
The flooring on the bottom level held five cubits in width, and the middle floor was six cubits in width, and the third floor held seven cubits in width. Then he positioned beams on the house all around the outside, in such a way that they would not be fastened to the walls of the temple.
7 Or, lorsque la maison se bâtit, c’est de pierres taillées et bien préparées qu’elle fui bâtie. Et ni marteau, ni cognée, ni aucun instrument de fer ne fut entendu dans la maison, pendant qu’on la bâtissait.
Now the house, while it was being built, was made from cut and finished stones. And so, neither mallet, nor chisel, nor any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was being built.
8 La porte du côté du milieu était à la partie droite de la maison, et l’on montait par un escalier tournant à l’étage mitoyen, et de l’étage mitoyen au troisième.
The door at the side of the middle section was to the right of the house. And they would ascend along winding stairs to the middle level, and from the middle level to the third level.
9 Ainsi il bâtit la maison et l’acheva, et il la couvrit de lambris de cèdre.
And he built the house, and finished it. And he overlaid the house with boards of cedar.
10 Et il bâtit un étage au-dessus de tout l’édifice, de cinq coudées de hauteur, et il couvrit la maison de bois de cèdre.
And he built a paneling over the entire house, five cubits in height, and he covered the house with cedar wood.
11 Et la parole du Seigneur fut adressée à Salomon, disant:
And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying:
12 Voici la maison que tu bâtis; si tu marches dans mes préceptes, si tu exécutes mes lois et que tu gardes tous mes commandements, en y marchant, je confirmerai pour toi la parole que j’ai dite à David ton père.
“Concerning this house, which you are building: if you will walk in my precepts, and carry out my judgments, and keep all my commandments, advancing by them, I will confirm my word to you, which I spoke to your father David.
13 J’habiterai au milieu des enfants d’Israël, et je n’abandonnerai point mon peuple Israël.
And I will dwell in the midst of the sons of Israel, and I will not forsake my people Israel.”
14 Ainsi Salomon bâtit la maison du Seigneur, et l’acheva.
And so, Solomon built the house, and finished it.
15 Et il lambrissa les murailles de la maison en dedans, d’ais de cèdre, depuis le pavé de la maison jusqu’au haut des murailles et jusqu’au plafond, et il le couvrit de bois de cèdre en dedans, et il couvrit le pavé de la maison de planches de sapin.
And he built the walls of the house, on the interior, with panels of cedar, from the floor of the house, to the top of the walls, and even to the ceiling. He covered it with cedar wood on the interior. And he overlaid the floor of the house with panels of spruce.
16 Il lambrissa aussi les vingt coudées, au fond du temple, d’ais de cèdre, depuis le pavé jusqu’au haut, et il fit le lieu intérieur de l’oracle pour le Saint des saints.
And he built panels of cedar, of twenty cubits, at the back part of the temple, from the floor even to the top. And he made the inner house of the oracle as the Holy of Holies.
17 Or, le temple lui-même était de quarante coudées devant la porte de l’oracle.
And the temple itself, before the doors of the oracle, was forty cubits.
18 Et toute la maison était au dedans revêtue de cèdre, ayant des contours et des jointures faites avec art, et des moulures saillantes: tout était revêtu de lambris de cèdre; et aucune pierre ne pouvait paraître dans la muraille.
And the entire house was clothed with cedar on the interior, having its turnings and junctures artfully wrought, with carvings projecting outward. Everything was clothed with panels of cedar. And no stone at all was able to be seen in the wall.
19 Quant à l’oracle, c’est au milieu du temple, dans la partie la plus intérieure, qu’il l’avait fait, pour y mettre l’arche de l’alliance du Seigneur.
Now he made the oracle in the middle of the house, in the inner part, so that he might station the ark of the covenant of the Lord there.
20 Or l’oracle était de vingt coudées de longueur, de vingt coudées de largeur, et de vingt coudées de hauteur, et il le couvrit et revêtit d’or très pur; mais l’autel, il le couvrit de bois de cèdre.
And the oracle held twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in height. And he covered and clothed it with the purest gold. Then, too, he clothed the altar in cedar.
21 La maison aussi devant l’oracle, il la couvrit d’un or très pur, et il attacha les lames d’or avec des clous d’or.
Also, the house before the oracle, he covered with the purest gold, and he fastened the plates with nails of gold.
22 Et il n’y avait rien dans le temple qui ne fût couvert d’or: et il couvrit aussi d’or tout l’autel de l’oracle.
And there was nothing in the temple that was not covered with gold. Moreover, the entire altar of the oracle he overlaid with gold.
23 Et il fit dans l’oracle deux chérubins de bois d’olivier, de dix coudées de hauteur.
And he made in the oracle two cherubim from wood of the olive tree, of ten cubits in height.
24 L’une des ailes d’un chérubin était de cinq coudées, et l’autre aile de ce chérubin était de cinq coudées; c’est-à-dire qu’il y avait dix coudées depuis l’extrémité d’une des ailes jusqu’à l’extrémité de l’autre aile.
One wing of a cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of a cherub was five cubits, that is, having ten cubits from the summit of one wing even to the summit of the other wing.
25 Le second chérubin était aussi de dix coudées, des mêmes dimensions, et il n’y avait qu’un seul ouvrage pour les deux chérubins,
Likewise, the second cherub was ten cubits. And the measure was equal and the work was one, in the two cherubim,
26 C’est-à-dire que le premier chérubin avait la hauteur de dix coudées, et le second pareillement.
that is, one cherub had a height of ten cubits, and similarly the second cherub.
27 Et il plaça les chérubins au milieu du temple intérieur; or les chérubins étendaient leurs ailes; l’une des ailes du premier chérubin touchait une muraille, et l’aile du second chérubin touchait l’autre muraille, et leurs autres ailes se joignaient ensemble au milieu du temple.
And he stationed the cherubim in the middle of the inner temple. And the cherubim extended their wings, and the wing of the one was touching the wall, and the wing of the second cherub was touching the other wall. But the other wings, in the middle of the temple, were touching each another.
28 Il couvrit aussi d’or les chérubins.
He also overlaid the cherubim with gold.
29 Et toutes les murailles du temple, il les orna alentour de sculptures variées et d’un contour; et il y fit des chérubins, des palmes et des peintures variées qui semblaient se détacher de la muraille et en sortir.
And all the walls of the temple all around he engraved with diverse carvings and turnings. And he made in them cherubim, and palm trees, and various images, as if these were projecting out, and going forth from, the wall.
30 Mais même le pavé de la maison, il le couvrit d’or, en dedans et en dehors.
Then, too, the floor of the house he overlaid with gold within and without.
31 Et à l’entrée de l’oracle, il fit de petites portes de bois d’olivier, et des poteaux à cinq angles;
And at the entrance of the oracle, he made little doors, from wood of the olive tree, with posts of five corners.
32 Et deux portes en bois d’olivier; et il y sculpta des figures de chérubins, des palmes, et des bas-reliefs très saillants; et il couvrit d’or tant les chérubins que les palmes et le reste.
And there were two doors, from wood of the olive tree. And he carved upon them pictures of cherubim, and images of palm trees, and very prominent figures. And he overlaid these with gold. And he covered the cherubim, as well as the palm trees and the other things, with gold.
33 Il fit à l’entrée du temple des poteaux de bois d’olivier quadrangulaires.
And he made, at the entrance of the temple, posts from wood of the olive tree, with four corners,
34 Et deux portes de bois de sapin de côté et d’autre: chaque porte avait deux battants, et elle s’ouvrait, ayant ces deux battants unis ensemble.
and two doors, from wood of the spruce tree, on the other side. And each door was double, and so it opened by folding upon itself.
35 Et il sculpta des chérubins, et des palmes, et des moulures très saillantes, et il couvrit le tout de lames d’or, d’un travail fait à la règle et à l’équerre.
And he carved cherubim, and palm trees, and very prominent engravings. And he covered everything with gold plates, worked to be perfectly square.
36 Il bâtit aussi le parvis intérieur de trois rangs de pierres polies et d’un rang de bois de cèdre.
And he built the inner atrium with three rows of polished stones, and one row of cedar wood.
37 C’est à la quatrième année, que fut fondée la maison du Seigneur, au mois de Zio;
In the fourth year, the house of the Lord was founded, in the month of Ziv.
38 Et la onzième année, au mois de Bul (c’est le huitième mois), la maison fut entièrement achevée, et dans tous ses ouvrages, et dans tout ce qui devait y servir; et Salomon la bâtit en sept ans.
And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was perfected in all its works and in all its equipment. And he built it for seven years.
