1 Rois 13
1 Et voilà qu’un homme de Dieu vint avec les paroles du Seigneur, de Juda à Béthel, Jéroboam étant près de l’autel et jetant de l’encens.
And behold, by the word of the Lord, a man of God went from Judah to Bethel, when Jeroboam was standing over the altar, and burning incense.
2 Et il s’écria contre l’autel, avec les paroles du Seigneur, et il dit: Autel, autel, le Seigneur dit ceci: Voilà qu’un fils naîtra dans la maison de David, du nom de Josias, et il immolera sur toi les prêtres des hauts lieux, qui maintenant brûlent sur toi de l’encens, et il brûlera sur toi des os d’hommes.
And by the word of the Lord, he cried out against the altar. And he said: “O altar, O altar! Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, a son will be born to the house of David, Josiah by name. And upon you, he will immolate the priests of the high places, who now burn incense upon you. And upon you, he will burn up the bones of men.’”
3 Et il donna en ce jour-là ce signe, disant: Ceci sera le signe que le Seigneur a parlé: Voilà que l’autel sera brisé, et que sera répandue la cendre qui est sur lui.
And he gave a sign on the same day, saying: “This will be the sign that the Lord has spoken. Behold, the altar shall be torn apart, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.”
4 Or lorsque le roi eut entendu la parole que l’homme de Dieu avait dite en criant contre l’autel à Béthel, il étendit sa main de dessus l’autel, disant: Saisissez-le. Et sa main qu’il avait étendue contre le prophète se sécha, et il ne put pas la retirer à lui.
And when the king had heard the word of the man of God, which he had cried out against the altar at Bethel, he extended his hand from the altar, saying, “Apprehend him!” But his hand, which he had extended against him, withered. And he was unable to draw it back to himself.
5 L’autel aussi se brisa, et la cendre se répandit de l’autel, selon le signe que l’homme de Dieu avait prédit avec les paroles du Seigneur.
Also, the altar was torn apart, and the ashes were poured out from the altar, in accord with the sign that the man of God had predicted by the word of the Lord.
6 Alors le roi dit à l’homme de Dieu: Implore la face du Seigneur ton Dieu, et prie pour moi, afin que ma main me soit rendue. Et l’homme de Dieu pria la face du Seigneur, et la main du roi revint à lui, et elle devint comme elle était auparavant.
And the king said to the man of God, “Entreat the face of the Lord your God, and pray for me, so that my hand may be restored to me.” And the man of God prayed before the face of the Lord, and the hand of the king was restored to him, and it became as it had been before.
7 Or le roi dit à l’homme de Dieu: Viens avec moi en ma maison pour dîner, et je te donnerai des présents.
Then the king said to the man of God: “Come home with me, so that you may dine. And I will give you gifts.”
8 Et l’homme de Dieu répondit au roi: Quand vous me donneriez la moitié de votre maison, je n’irai point avec vous, et je ne mangerai point de pain ni ne boirai point d’eau en ce lieu;
And the man of God responded to the king: “Even if you will give me one half part of your house, I will not go with you, nor eat bread, nor drink water in this place.
9 Car c’est ainsi qu’il m’a été commandé avec les paroles du Seigneur, qui a donné cet ordre: Tu ne mangeras point de pain, tu ne boiras point d’eau, et tu ne retourneras point par la voie par laquelle tu es venu.
For so it was commanded to me by the word of the Lord, ordering: ‘You shall not eat bread, and you shall not drink water, nor shall you return by the way that you came.’”
10 Il s’en alla donc par une autre voie, et il ne retourna pas par le chemin par lequel il était venu à Béthel.
Then he departed by another way, and he did not return along the way that he had traveled to Bethel.
11 Or un certain vieux prophète habitait à Béthel, et ses fils vinrent vers lui, et lui racontèrent toutes les œuvres qu’avait faites l’homme de Dieu ce jour-là à Béthel; et les paroles qu’il avait dites au roi, ils les racontèrent à leur père.
Now a certain elderly prophet was living in Bethel. His sons went to him, and they described to him all the works which the man of God had accomplished on that day in Bethel. And they described to their father the words that he had spoken to the king.
12 Et leur père leur dit: Par quelle voie s’en est-il allé? Ses fils lui montrèrent la voie par laquelle s’en était allé l’homme de Dieu qui était venu de Juda.
And their father said to them, “By which way did he depart?” His sons showed him the way by which the man of God, who had come from Judah, had departed.
13 Et il dit à ses fils: Préparez-moi l’âne. Et lorsque ceux-ci l’eurent préparé, il monta dessus.
And he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” And when they had saddled it, he climbed on,
14 Et il s’en alla après l’homme de Dieu, et il le trouva assis sous le térébinthe, et il lui dit: Es-tu l’homme de Dieu qui es venu de Juda? Celui-ci répondit; Je le suis.
and he went away after the man of God. And he found him sitting under a terebinth tree. And he said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” And he responded, “I am.”
15 Viens, dit-il, avec moi en ma maison pour manger du pain.
And he said to him, “Come home with me, so that you may eat bread.”
16 L’homme de Dieu lui répondit: Je ne puis retourner ni aller avec toi, et je ne mangerai point de pain et ne boirai point d’eau en ce lieu;
But he said: “I am not able to turn back, nor to go with you. Neither will I eat bread, or drink water in this place.
17 Parce que le Seigneur m’a parlé avec les paroles du Seigneur, disant: tu ne mangeras point de pain et ne boiras point d’eau là, et tu ne retourneras point par la voie par laquelle tu seras allé.
For the Lord has spoken to me, by the word of the Lord, saying, “You shall not eat bread, and you shall not drink water in that place, nor shall you return by the way that you arrived.”
18 Cet homme lui répondit: Moi aussi, je suis prophète, semblable à toi, et un ange m’a parlé avec les paroles du Seigneur, disant: Ramène-le avec toi en ta maison, afin qu’il mange du pain et qu’il boive de l’eau. Il le trompa,
And he said to him: “I, too, am a prophet like you. And an Angel spoke to me, by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘Lead him back with you to your house, so that he may eat bread, and drink water.’” And so he deceived him.
19 Et le ramena avec lui: il mangea donc du pain en sa maison, et il but de l’eau.
And he led him back with him. Then he ate bread and drank water in his house.
20 Et, lorsqu’ils étaient assis à table, la parole du Seigneur fut adressée au prophète qui l’avait ramené,
And while they were sitting at table, the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had led him back.
21 Et il cria à l’homme de Dieu qui était venu de Juda, disant: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Parce que tu n’as pas été obéissant à la parole du Seigneur, et que tu n’as point gardé le commandement que t’a prescrit le Seigneur ton Dieu,
And he cried out to the man of God who had arrived from Judah, saying: “Thus says the Lord: Because you were not obedient to the mouth of the Lord, and you did not keep the commandment that the Lord your God instructed to you,
22 Et que tu es retourné, et que tu as mangé du pain et bu de l’eau dans le lieu dans lequel je t’ai ordonné de ne point manger de pain et de ne point boire d’eau, ton cadavre ne sera pas porté dans le sépulcre de tes pères.
and you turned back, and ate bread, and drank water in the place where he commanded you that you should not eat bread, nor drink water: your dead body shall not be carried back to the sepulcher of your fathers.”
23 Lors donc qu’il eut mangé et bu, le vieux prophète sella son âne pour le prophète qu’il avait ramené.
And when he had eaten and had drunk, he saddled his donkey for the prophet whom he had led back.
24 Et lorsque celui-ci s’en fut allé, un lion le rencontra et le tua, et son cadavre était étendu dans le chemin: l’âne se tenait auprès de lui, et le lion se tenait auprès du cadavre.
And when he had departed, a lion found him along the way, and it killed him, and his dead body was left upon the road. Now the donkey was standing beside him. And the lion was standing beside the dead body.
25 Et voilà que des hommes qui passaient virent son cadavre étendu sur la voie, et le lion qui se tenait auprès du cadavre. Et ils vinrent, et le publièrent dans la ville dans laquelle ce vieux prophète demeurait.
And behold, men who were passing by saw the dead body lying in the road, with the lion standing beside the body. And they went and made it widely known in the city where that elderly prophet was living.
26 Ce qu’ayant appris, ce prophète qui l’avait détourné de sa voie, dit: C’est l’homme de Dieu qui a été désobéissant à la parole du Seigneur, et le Seigneur l’a livré au lion, qui l’a brisé et l’a tué, selon la parole que le Seigneur lui avait dite.
And when that prophet, who had led him back from the way, had heard it, he said: “It is the man of God, who was disobedient to the mouth of the Lord. And the Lord has delivered him to the lion. And it has torn him apart and killed him, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he spoke to him.”
27 Et il dit à ses fils: Sellez-moi l’âne. Lorsque ceux-ci l’eurent sellé,
And he said to his sons, “Saddle a donkey for me.” And when they had saddled it,
28 Et que lui s’en fut allé, il trouva le cadavre étendu sur la voie, et l’âne et le lion qui se tenaient auprès du cadavre: le lion ne mangea pas du cadavre et ne fit pas de mal à l’âne.
and he had departed, he found the dead body lying on the road, with the donkey and the lion standing beside the dead body. The lion did not eat from the dead body, nor did it harm the donkey.
29 Le prophète prit donc le cadavre de l’homme de Dieu, le mit sur l’âne, et le ramena dans la ville du vieux prophète, pour le pleurer.
Then the prophet took the dead body of the man of God, and he placed it upon the donkey, and returning, he brought it into the city of the elderly prophet, so that he might mourn for him.
30 Et il mit son cadavre dans son sépulcre; et ils le pleurèrent, disant: Hélas! hélas! mon frère!
And he placed his dead body in his own sepulcher. And they mourned for him, saying: “Alas! Alas! My brother!”
31 Et lorsqu’ils l’eurent pleuré, il dit à ses fils: Lorsque je serai mort, ensevelissez-moi dans le sépulcre dans lequel l’homme de Dieu est enseveli; mettez mes os auprès de ses os.
And when they had mourned over him, he said to his sons: “When I will have died, bury me in the sepulcher in which the man of God was buried. Place my bones beside his bones.
32 Car certainement il arrivera ce qu’il a prédit avec les paroles du Seigneur, contre l’autel qui est à Béthel, et contre tous les temples des hauts lieux qui sont dans les villes de Samarie.
For certainly, the word will arrive, which he predicted by the word of the Lord, against the altar, which is in Bethel, and against all the shrines of the high places, which are in the cities of Samaria.”
33 Après cela, Jéroboam ne revint point de ses voies très mauvaises; mais au contraire, il fit des derniers du peuple des prêtres des hauts lieux: à quiconque le voulait il remplissait sa main, et celui-ci devenait prêtre des hauts lieux.
After these words, Jeroboam did not turn back from his very evil way. Instead, to the contrary, he made priests for the high places out of the least of the people. Whosoever was willing, he filled his hand, and he became a priest of the high places.
34 Et c’est pour ce motif que pécha la maison de Jéroboam, et qu’elle fut détruite et exterminée de la surface de la terre.
And for this reason, the house of Jeroboam sinned, and was uprooted, and was wiped from the face of the earth.
