1 Jean 4

1 Mes bien-aimés, ne croyez point à tout esprit, mais éprouvez les esprits, s’ils sont de Dieu; parce que beaucoup de faux prophètes se sont élevés dans le monde.

Beloved! not in every spirit, believe ye, but test the spirits, whether they are, of God; because, many false prophets, have gone out into the world.

2 Voici en quoi se connaît l’Esprit de Dieu: Tout esprit qui confesse que Jésus-Christ est venu dans la chair est de Dieu;

Hereby, do ye perceive the Spirit of God: —every spirit that confesseth Jesus Christ as having come, in flesh, is, of God;

3 Et tout esprit qui détruit Jésus n’est point de Dieu, et celui-là est l’Antéchrist, dont vous avez ouï dire qu’il vient; or il est déjà dans le monde.

And, every spirit that doth not confess Jesus, of God, is not. And, this, is the [spirit] of the Antichrist, touching which ye have heard that it cometh: even now, is it, in the world, already.

4 Vous, vous êtes de Dieu, mes petits enfants, et vous l’avez vaincu; parce que celui qui est en vous est plus grand que celui qui est dans le monde.

Ye, are, of God, dear children, and have overcome them; because, greater, is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

5 Eux sont du monde, c’est pourquoi ils parlent du monde, et le monde les écoute.

They, are, of the world: For this cause, of the world, they speak, and the world, unto them, doth hearken.

6 Nous, nous sommes de Dieu. Qui connaît Dieu nous écoute; qui n’est pas de Dieu ne nous écoute point; et c’est à cela que nous connaissons l’esprit de vérité et l’esprit d’erreur.

We, are, of God: he that is getting to understand God, hearkeneth unto us, —whoso is not of God, hearkeneth not unto us: from this, perceive we—the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

7 Mes bien-aimés, aimons-nous les uns les autres, parce que la charité est de Dieu. Ainsi quiconque aime est né de Dieu et connaît Dieu.

Beloved! let us be loving one another; because, love, is, of God, and, whosoever loveth, of God, hath been born, and is getting to understand God:

8 Qui n’aime point ne connaît pas Dieu, parce que Dieu est charité.

He that doth not love, doth not understand God, because, God, is, love.

9 La charité de Dieu a paru en cela qu’il a envoyé son Fils unique dans le monde, afin que nous vivions par lui.

Herein, hath the love of God in us, been made manifest, that, his only-begotten Son, God sent into the world, in order that we might live through him.

10 Et cette charité consiste en ce que ce n’est pas nous qui avons aimé Dieu, mais que c’est lui qui nous a aimés le premier, et qui a envoyé son Fils, propitiation pour nos péchés.

Herein, is love: not that, we, have loved God, but that, he, loved us, and sent forth his Son, as a propitiation concerning our sins.

11 Mes bien-aimés, si Dieu nous a ainsi aimés, nous devons, nous aussi, nous aimer les uns les autres.

Beloved! If, in this way, God, loved us, we also, ought to love, one another.

12 Personne n’a jamais vu Dieu. Si nous nous aimons les uns les autres, Dieu demeure en nous, et sa charité en nous est parfaite.

Upon God, hath no one, at any time, gazed: If we love one another, God, in us, abideth, and, his love, hath been perfected within us.

13 Nous connaissons que nous demeurons en lui, et lui en nous, en cela qu’il nous a donné de son Esprit.

Hereby, perceive we—that, in him, are we abiding, and, he, in us, —in that, of his Spirit, hath he given unto us.

14 Et nous, nous avons vu et nous attestons que le Père a envoyé son Fils, Sauveur du monde.

And, we, for ourselves have gazed, and are bearing witness—that, the Father, sent forth the Son, as Saviour of the world.

15 Quiconque confesse que Jésus est le Fils de Dieu, Dieu demeure en lui, et lui en Dieu.

Whosoever shall confess, that, Jesus [Christ] is the Son of God, God, in him, abideth, and, he, in God.

16 Quant à nous, nous avons connu la charité que Dieu a pour nous, et nous y avons cru. Dieu est charité; et qui demeure dans la charité demeure en Dieu, et Dieu en lui.

And, we, have come to understand and to trust the love which, God, hath, in us. God, is, love; and, he that abideth in love, in God, abideth, and, God, in him [abideth].

17 Or la charité de Dieu n’est parfaite en nous, de manière que nous ayons confiance au jour du jugement, qu’autant que nous sommes en ce monde tels qu’il est,

Herein, hath love with us, been made perfect, —in order that, boldness, we might have in the day of judging, —in that, just as, He, is, we also, are, in this world.

18 Car il n’y a point de crainte dans la charité; mais la charité parfaite chasse la crainte, parce que la crainte est accompagnée de peine; ainsi, celui qui craint n’est point parfait dans la charité.

Fear, existeth not, in love, but, perfect love, casteth fear, outside; because, fear, hath correction: he that feareth, hath not been made perfect, in love.

19 Nous donc, aimons Dieu, parce que Dieu nous a aimés le premier.

We, love, because, he, first loved us: —

20 Si quelqu’un dit: J’aime Dieu, et qu’il haïsse son frère, c’est un menteur. Car celui qui n’aime point son frère qu’il voit, comment peut-il aimer Dieu qu’il ne voit pas?

If one should say, I love God, and should be hating, his brother, false, is he; for, he that doth not love his brother, whom he hath seen, God, whom he hath not seen, he cannot love!

21 De plus, nous avons ce commandement de Dieu: Que celui qui aime Dieu aime aussi son frère.

And, this commandment, have we from him, —that, he who loveth God, love, his brother also.
