1 Corinthiens 14
1 Recherchez avec ardeur la charité; désirez les dons spirituels, et surtout de prophétiser.
Pursue love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but even more that you may prophesy.
2 Car celui qui parle en une langue ne parle pas aux hommes, mais à Dieu, puisque personne ne l’entend; mais par l’Esprit il dit des choses mystérieuses.
For he who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he speaks mysteries in the Spirit.
3 Mais celui qui prophétise parle aux hommes pour l’édification, l’exhortation et la consolation.
But he who prophesies speaks edification, encouragement, and comfort to others.
4 Celui qui parle une langue s’édifie lui-même, tandis que celui qui prophétise édifie l’Eglise de Dieu.
He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
5 Je voudrais que vous pussiez tous parler les langues, mais encore plus prophétiser. Car celui qui prophétise est au-dessus de celui qui parle les langues; à moins qu’il n’interprète, afin que l’Eglise en reçoive de l’édification.
Now I would like all of you to speak in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. For greater is he who prophesies than he who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.
6 Aussi, mes frères, si je viens à vous parlant les langues, à quoi vous serai-je utile, si je ne joins à mes paroles ou la révélation, ou la science, ou la prophétie, ou la doctrine?
Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I speak to you with a revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?
7 Les choses qui sont inanimées quoique rendant des sons, comme la flûte et la harpe, si elles ne forment des tons différents, comment saura-t-on ce qu’on joue sur la flûte ou sur la harpe?
It is the same way with lifeless instruments that produce sound, such as the flute or harp. If they do not produce distinct notes, how will anyone recognize what is being played?
8 Et si la trompette rend un son incertain, qui se préparera au combat?
And if the trumpet does not produce a distinct sound, who will prepare himself for battle?
9 De même vous, si vous exprimez par la langue des mots qui ne sont pas clairs, comment saura-t-on ce que vous dites? Vous parlerez en l’air.
It is the same with you. If you do not produce intelligible speech with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air.
10 Il y a, en effet, tant de sortes de langues dans ce monde; et il n’en est aucune qui n’ait des sons intelligibles.
There are undoubtedly many kinds of languages in the world, and none of them is without meaning.
11 Si donc j’ignore la valeur des mots, je serai barbare pour celui à qui je parle, et celui qui parle, barbare pour moi.
If then I do not know the meaning of a particular language, I will be a foreigner to him who is speaking, and he who is speaking will be a foreigner to me.
12 Ainsi, vous-mêmes puisque vous désirez si ardemment les dons spirituels, faites que pour l’édification de l’Eglise vous en abondiez.
It is the same with you. Since you earnestly desire spiritual gifts, seek to abound in them for the edification of the church.
13 C’est pourquoi, que celui qui parle une langue demande le don de l’interpréter.
Therefore anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray for the ability to interpret what he says.
14 Car si je prie en une langue, mon esprit prie, mais mon intelligence est sans fruit.
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.
15 Que ferai-je donc? je prierai d’esprit, mais je prierai aussi avec l’intelligence. Je chanterai d’esprit des cantiques, mais je les chanterai aussi avec l’intelligence.
What then should I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also. I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing praise with my mind also.
16 D’ailleurs si tu ne bénis que d’esprit, comment celui qui tient la place du simple peuple répondra-t-il Amen à ta bénédiction, puisqu’il ne sait pas ce que tu dis?
Otherwise, if yoʋ bless with yoʋr spirit, how will anyone in the position of an outsider say “Amen” when yoʋ give thanks, since he does not know what yoʋ are saying?
17 Pour toi, tu rends bien grâces, mais l’autre n’est pas édifié.
For yoʋ may very well be giving thanks, but the other person is not edified.
18 Je rends grâces à mon Dieu de ce que je parle les langues de vous tous.
I give thanks to my God speaking in tongues more than you all.
19 Mais dans l’Eglise, j’aime mieux dire cinq mots que je comprends, pour en instruire les autres, que dix mille en une langue.
Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20 Mes frères, ne devenez pas enfants par l’intelligence; mais soyez petits enfants en malice, et hommes faits en intelligence.
Brothers, do not be childish in your way of thinking. Rather, as to malice be infants, but in your way of thinking be mature.
21 Il est écrit dans la loi: Je parlerai à ce peuple en d’autres langues et avec d’autres lèvres; et ainsi ils ne me prêteront même pas l’oreille, dit le Seigneur.
In the law it is written, “With foreign tongues and with foreign lips I will speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.”
22 C’est pourquoi les langues sont un signe, non pour les fidèles, mais pour les infidèles; au contraire, les prophéties sont, non pour les infidèles, mais pour les fidèles.
So then, tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.
23 Si donc une Eglise étant réunie en un seul lieu, tous parlent diverses langues, et qu’il entre des ignorants ou des infidèles, ne diront-ils pas que vous êtes fous?
So if the whole church comes together and everyone is speaking in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your minds?
24 Mais si tous prophétisent, et que quelque ignorant, ou quelque infidèle entre, il est convaincu par tous et jugé par tous;
But if an unbeliever or outsider comes in while everyone is prophesying, he will be convicted by all and called to account by all.
25 Les secrets de son cœur sont dévoilés, de sorte que, tombant sur sa face, il adorera Dieu, déclarant que Dieu est vraiment en vous.
The secrets of his heart will thus be revealed, and he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is truly among you.
26 Que faut-il donc, mes frères? Que quand vous vous assemblez, l’un ayant le chant, un autre l’enseignement, un autre la révélation, un autre les langues, un autre l’interprétation, tout se fasse pour l’édification.
What then should you do, brothers? When you come together, each one of you has a psalm, a teaching, a tongue, a revelation, or an interpretation. Everything must be done for edification.
27 S’il y en a qui parlent les langues, que deux seulement parlent, ou au plus trois, et tour à tour; et qu’un seul interprète.
If any speak in a tongue, only two, or at the most three, should speak; they should each speak in turn, and someone must interpret.
28 S’il n’y a point d’interprète, que chacun se taise, et qu’il parle à lui-même et à Dieu.
But if there is no interpreter, they should keep quiet in the church and speak in tongues privately to God.
29 Quant aux prophètes, que deux ou trois parlent, et que les autres jugent.
Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should evaluate what they say.
30 Que s’il se fait une révélation à un autre de ceux qui sont assis, que le premier se taise.
But if something is revealed to another who is seated, the first speaker should be silent.
31 Car vous pouvez tous prophétiser l’un après l’autre, afin que tous apprennent et soient exhortés;
For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
32 Et les esprits des prophètes sont soumis aux prophètes.
Remember that the spirits of prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 Car Dieu n’est pas un Dieu de dissension, mais de paix; comme je l’enseigne dans toutes les Eglises des saints.
For God is not a God of disorder but of peace; this is true in all the churches of the saints.
34 Que les femmes se taisent dans les Eglises, car il ne leur est pas permis de parler, mais elles doivent être soumises, comme la loi elle-même le dit.
Your women should be silent in the churches, for they have not been permitted to speak, but must be in submission, just as the law says.
35 Si elles veulent s’instruire de quelque chose, qu’elles interrogent leurs maris dans leur maison. Car il est honteux à une femme de parler dans l’Eglise.
If they want to learn anything, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.
36 Est-ce de vous qu’est sortie la parole de Dieu? Est-ce à vous seuls qu’elle est parvenue?
Or was it from you that the word of God came? Or are you the only ones it has reached?
37 Si quelqu’un croit être prophète, ou spirituel, qu’il reconnaisse que les choses que je vous écris sont des commandements du Seigneur.
If anyone thinks that he is a prophet or spiritual person, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are commandments of the Lord.
38 Si quelqu’un l’ignore, il sera ignoré.
But if anyone ignores this, let him be ignorant.
39 C’est pourquoi, mes frères, employez tout votre zèle à prophétiser, et n’empêchez point de parler les langues.
So then, brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy and do not forbid speaking in tongues.
40 Mais que tout se fasse décemment et avec ordre.
Let all things be done decently and in order.
