1 Corinthiens 10
1 Car je ne veux pas que vous ignoriez, mes frères, que nos pères ont tous été sous la nuée, et qu’ils ont tous passé la mer;
Now, brethren, I do not wish you to be ignorant, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and that all passed through the sea,
2 Qu’ils ont tous été baptisés sous Moïse, dans la nuée et dans la mer;
and were all immersed into Moses, in the cloud and in the sea;
3 Qu’ils ont tous mangé la même nourriture spirituelle,
and did all eat the same spiritual food,
4 Et qu’ils ont tous bu le même breuvage spirituel (car ils buvaient de l’eau de la pierre spirituelle qui les suivait; or cette pierre était le Christ);
and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was the Christ.
5 Cependant la plupart d’entre eux ne furent pas agréables à Dieu; car ils succombèrent dans le désert.
But with the most of them God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Or toutes ces choses ont été des figures de ce qui nous regarde, afin que nous ne convoitions pas les choses mauvaises, comme eux les convoitèrent;
Now these things took place as examples for us, that we should not desire evil things, as they, also, desired.
7 Et que vous ne deveniez point idolâtres, comme quelques-uns d’eux, selon qu’il est écrit: Le peuple s’est assis pour manger et pour boire, et s’est levé pour se divertir.
Neither be you idolaters, as some of them were, as it is written: Tho people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to engage in idolatrous sport.
8 Ne commettons pas la fornication comme quelques-uns d’entre eux la commirent, et il en tomba vingt-trois mille en un seul jour.
Nor let us be guilty of lewdness, as some of them were guilty, and fell, in one day, twenty-three thousand.
9 Ne tentons point le Christ comme quelques-uns d’eux le tentèrent, et ils périrent par les serpents.
Nor let us tempt the Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents.
10 Et ne murmurez point comme quelques-uns d’eux murmurèrent, et ils périrent par l’exterminateur.
Nor do you murmur, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
11 Or toutes ces choses leur arrivaient en figure, et elles ont été écrites pour nous être un avertissement à nous pour qui est venue la fin des temps. (aiōn g165)
Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they are written for the instruction of us, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. (aiōn g165)
12 Que celui donc qui se croit être ferme prenne garde de tomber.
Wherefore, let him that thinks he stands, take heed lest he foil.
13 Qu’il ne vous survienne que des tentations qui tiennent à l’humanité. Or Dieu est fidèle, et il ne souffrira pas que vous soyez tentés par-dessus vos forces; mais il vous fera tirer profit de la tentation même, afin que vous puissiez persévérer.
No trial has come upon you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tried more than you are able to bear; but he will, with the trial, make a way to escape, so that you be able to bear up under it.
14 C’est pourquoi, mes bien-aimés, fuyez le culte des idoles.
Wherefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
15 C’est comme à des hommes sages que je parle; jugez vous-mêmes de ce que je dis.
I speak as to wise men; judge you what I say.
16 Le calice de bénédiction que nous bénissons n’est-il pas la communication du sang du Christ? et le pain que nous rompons n’est-il pas la participation au corps du Seigneur?
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the participation of the blood of the Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the participation of the body of the Christ?
17 Car, quoique en grand nombre, nous sommes un seul pain, un seul corps, nous tous qui participons à un seul pain.
Because the loaf is one, we, the many, are one body, for we are all partakers of the one loaf.
18 Voyez Israël selon la chair; ceux qui mangent des victimes ne participent-ils pas à l’autel?
Look at Israel according to the flesh: are not those who eat the sacrifices partakers with the altar?
19 Quoi donc? Veux-je dire que ce qui est immolé aux idoles soit quelque chose? ou que l’idole soit quelque chose?
What, then, do I say? That an idol is any thing? or, that what is sacrificed to an idol is any thing?
20 Mais ce qu’immolent les gentils, ils l’immolent aux démons et non à Dieu. Or je désire que vous n’ayez aucune société avec les démons: vous ne pouvez boire le calice du Seigneur et le calice des démons.
But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God. I do not wish you to be partakers with demons.
21 Vous ne pouvez avoir part à la table du Seigneur et à la table des démons.
You can not drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: you can not be partakers of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.
22 Voulons-nous provoquer le Seigneur? Sommes-nous plus forts que lui? Tout m’est permis, mais tout ne m’est pas avantageux.
Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
23 Tout m’est permis, mais tout n’édifie pas.
All meats are lawful for me; but all are not profitable; all are lawful, but all do not edify.
24 Que personne ne cherche son propre avantage, mais celui des autres.
Let no one seek his own, but each the welfare of the other.
25 Mangez tout ce qui se vend à la boucherie, ne faisant aucune question par conscience.
Any thing that is sold in the market, eat, asking no questions on account of conscience:
26 Car au Seigneur est la terre et toute sa plénitude.
for the earth and its fullness are the Lord’s.
27 Si un infidèle vous invite, et que vous vouliez aller, mangez de tout ce qu’on vous servira, ne faisant aucune question par conscience.
If any one of the unbelievers invites you to a feast, and you are disposed to go, eat any thing that is set before you, asking no questions for conscience sake.
28 Mais si quelqu’un dit: Ceci a été immolé aux idoles, n’en mangez point, à cause de celui qui vous a avertis, et par conscience.
But if any one say to you: This is sacrificed to idols; eat not, for the sake of him that pointed it out, and for conscience sake:
29 Or je dis la conscience, non la tienne, mais celle d’autrui. Car pourquoi ma liberté serait-elle condamnée par la conscience d’un autre?
conscience, I say, not your own, but that of the other. Why, then, is my liberty judged by the conscience of another?
30 Si je mange avec actions de grâces, pourquoi me laisserai-je maudire pour une chose dont je rends grâces?
If I partake with thanksgiving, why am I evil spoken of on account of that for which I give thanks?
31 Soit donc que vous mangiez, soit que vous buviez, ou que vous fassiez quelque autre chose, faites tout pour la gloire de Dieu.
Whether, therefore, you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
32 Ne soyez une occasion de scandale ni pour les Juifs, ni pour les gentils, ni pour l’Eglise de Dieu;
Give no occasion for stumbling, either to the Jews, or to the Greeks, or to the church of God;
33 Comme moi-même je complais à tous en toutes choses, ne cherchant pas ce qui m’est avantageux, mais ce qui l’est au grand nombre, afin qu’ils soient sauvés.
even as I please all men in all things, not seeking my own good, but that of the many, in order that they may be saved.
