1 Chroniques 6

1 Les fils de Lévi furent Gerson, Caath et Mérari;

Levi’s sons were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

2 Les fils de Caath, Amram, Isaar, Hébron et Oziel;

Kohath’s sons were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

3 Les fils d’Amram, Aaron, Moïse et Marie; les fils d’Aaron Nadab et Abiu, Eléazar et Ithamar.

Amram’s children were Miriam and [her younger brothers] Aaron and Moses. Aaron’s sons were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

4 Eléazar engendra Phinéès, et Phinéès engendra Abisué.

Eleazar was the father of Phinehas. Phinehas was the father of Abishua.

5 Abisué engendra Bocci, et Bocci engendra Ozi.

Abishua was the father of Bukki. Bukki was the father of Uzzi.

6 Ozi engendra Zaraïas, et Zaraïas engendra Méraïoth.

Uzzi was the father of Zerahiah. Zerahiah was the father of Meraioth.

7 Méraïoth engendra Amarias, et Amarias engendra Achitob.

Meraioth was the father of Amariah. Amariah was the father of Ahitub.

8 Achitob engendra Sadoc, et Sadoc engendra Achimaas.

Ahitub was the father of Zadok. Zadok was the father of Ahimaaz.

9 Achimaas engendra Azarias, Azarias engendra Johanan.

Ahimaaz was the father of Azariah. Azariah was the father of Johanan.

10 Johanan engendra Azarias: ce fut lui qui remplit les fonctions du sacerdoce dans la maison que bâtit Salomon à Jérusalem.

Johanan was the father of Azariah. Azariah was a priest in the temple that Solomon commanded to be built in Jerusalem.

11 Or Azarias engendra Amarias, et Amarias engendra Achitob.

Azariah was the father of Amariah. Amariah was the father of Ahitub.

12 Achitob engendra Sadoc, et Sadoc engendra Sellum.

Ahitub was the father of Zadok. Zadok was the father of Shallum.

13 Sellum engendra Helcias, et Helcias engendra Azarias.

Shallum was the father of Hilkiah. Hilkiah was the father of Azariah.

14 Azarias engendra Saraïas, et Saraïas engendra Josédec.

Azariah was the father of Seraiah. Seraiah was the father of Jehozadak.

15 Or Josédec sortit du pays, quand le Seigneur déporta Juda et Jérusalem par l’entremise de Nabuchodonosor.

Jehozadak was forced to leave his home when Yahweh sent [King] Nebuchadnezzar’s [army] [MTY] to capture many people in Jerusalem and other places in Judah and compel them [to go to Babylonia].

16 Les fils de Lévi furent donc Gerson, Caath et Mérari;

Levi’s sons were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

17 Les fils de Gerson, Lobni et Séméi;

Gershon’s sons were Libni and Shimei.

18 Les fils de Caath, Amram, Isaar, Hébron et Oziel;

Kohath’s sons were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

19 Les fils de Mérari, Moholi et Musi. Mais voici la parenté des enfants de Lévi, selon leurs familles:

Merari’s sons were Mahli and Mushi. Here is a list of the descendants of Levi, who became leaders of their clans.

20 Gerson, dont le fils, Lobni, dont le fils, Jahath, dont le fils, Zamma,

Gershon’s [oldest] son was Libni. Libni’s son was Jehath. Jehath’s son was Zimmah.

21 Dont le fils, Joab, dont le fils, Addo, dont le fils, Zara, dont le fils, Jethraï;

Zimmah’s son was Joah. Joah’s son was Iddo. Iddo’s son was Zerah. Zerah’s son was Jeatherai.

22 Les fils de Caath: Aminadab, son fils, dont le fils, Coré, dont le fils Asir,

Kohath’s [other] son was Amminadab. Amminadab’s son was Korah. Korah’s son was Assir.

23 Dont le fils, Elcana, dont le fils, Abiasaph, dont le fils, Asir,

Assir’s son was Elkanah. Elkanah’s son was Ebiasaph. Ebiasaph’s son was Assir.

24 Dont le fils, Thahath, dont le fils, Uriel, dont le fils, Ozias, dont le fils, Saül.

Assir’s son was Tahath. Tahath’s son was Uriel. Uriel’s son was Uzziah. Uzziah’s son was Shaul.

25 Les fils d’Elcana: Amasaï, Achimoth,

Elkanah’s [other] sons were Amasai and Ahimoth.

26 Et Elcana; les fils d’Elcana: Sophaï, son fils, dont le fils, Nahath,

Ahimoth’s son was Elkanah. Elkanah’s son was Zophai. Zophai’s son was Nahath.

27 Dont le fils, Eliab, dont le fils, Jéroham, dont le fils, Elcana.

Nahath’s son was Eliab. Eliab’s son was Jeroham. Jeroham’s son was Elkanah. Elkanah’s son was Samuel.

28 Les fils de Samuel: le premier-né, Vasseni, et Abia;

Samuel’s oldest son was Joel; his other son was Abijah.

29 Mais les fils de Mérari, Moholi, dont le fils, Lobni, dont le fils, Séméi, dont le fils, Oza,

Merari’s oldest son was Mahli. Mahli’s son was Libni. Libni’s son was Shimei. Shimei’s son was Uzzah.

30 Dont le fils, Sammaa, dont le fils, Haggia, dont le fils, Asaïa.

Uzzah’s son was Shimea. Shimea’s son was Haggiah. Haggiah’s son was Asaiah.

31 Voilà ceux que David établit sur les chantres de la maison du Seigneur, depuis que l’arche eut été placée.

After the Sacred Chest was brought [to Jerusalem, King] David appointed some of the men who were descendants of Levi to be in charge of the music in [the Sacred Tent where the people worshiped] Yahweh.

32 Et ils servaient devant le tabernacle de témoignage, chantant, jusqu’à ce que Salomon eût bâti la maison du Seigneur dans Jérusalem; mais ils exerçaient ce ministère suivant leur rang.

Those musicians first sang and played their instruments in the Sacred Tent, which was also called the Tent of Meeting, and they continued to do that until Solomon’s [workers] built the temple of Yahweh in Jerusalem. In all their work, they obeyed the instructions [that David had given them].

33 Or voici ceux qui servaient avec leurs fils d’entre les fils de Caath: Héman, le chantre, fils de Johel, fils de Samuel,

Here is a list of the musicians and their sons: From Kohath’s descendants there was Heman, the leader of the singers. Heman was the son of Joel. Joel was the son of Samuel.

34 Fils d’Elcana, fils de Jéroham, fils d’Eliel, fils de Thohu,

Samuel was the son of Elkanah. Elkanah was the son of Jeroham. Jeroham was the son of Eliel. Eliel was the son of Toah.

35 Fils de Suph, fils d’Elcana, fils de Mahath, fils d’Amasa,

Toah was the son of Zuph. Zuph was the son of Elkanah. Elkanah was the son of Mahath. Mahath was the son of Amasai.

36 Fils d’Elcana, fils de Joël, fils d’Azarias, fils de Sophonias,

Amasai was the son of [another man whose name was] Elkanah. Elkanah was the son of Joel. Joel was the son of Azariah. Azariah was the son of Zephaniah.

37 Fils de Thahath, fils d’Asir, fils d’Abiasaph, fils de Coré,

Zephaniah was the son of Tahath. Tahath was the son of Assir. Assir was the son of Ebiasaph. Ebiasaph was the son of Korah.

38 Fils d’Isaar, fils de Caath, fils de Lévi, fils d’Israël.

Korah was the son of Izhar. Izhar was the son of Kohath. Kohath was the son of Levi. Levi was the son of Jacob.

39 Et son frère Asaph, qui se tenait à sa droite; Asaph, fils de Barachias, fils de Samaa,

Heman’s helper was Asaph. His group [of singers] stood at the right side of Heman. Asaph was the son of Berekiah. Berekiah was the son of Shimea.

40 Fils de Michaël, fils de Basaïas, fils de Melchias,

Shimea was the son of Michael. Michael was the son of Baaseiah. Baaseiah was the son of Malkijah.

41 Fils d’Athanaï, fils de Zara, fils d’Adaïa,

Malkijah was the son of Ethni. Ethni was the son of Zerah. Zerah was the son of Adaiah.

42 Fils d’Ethan, fils de Zamma, fils de Séméi,

Adaiah was the son of Ethan. Ethan was the son of Zimmah. Zimmah was the son of Shimei.

43 Fils de Jeth, fils de Gerson, fils de Lévi;

Shimei was the son of Jahath. Jahath was the son of Gershon, and Gershon was the son of Levi.

44 Mais les fils de Mérari, leurs frères, qui se tenaient à la gauche, étaient: Ethan, fils de Cusi, fils d’Abdi, fils de Maloch,

[A group of singers from] Merari’s family helped Heman and Asaph. They stood to the left of Heman. The leader of this group was Ethan, the son of Kishi. Kishi was the son of Abdi. Abdi was the son of Malluch.

45 Fils d’Hasabias, fils d’Amasias, fils d’Helcias,

Malluch was the son of Hashabiah. Hashabiah was the son of Amaziah. Amaziah was the son of Hilkiah.

46 Fils d’Amasaï, fils de Boni, fils de Somer,

Hilkiah was the son of Amzi. Amzi was the son of Bani. Bani was the son of Shemer.

47 Fils de Moholi, fils de Musi, fils de Mérari, fils de Lévi.

Shemer was the son of Mahli. Mahli was the son of Mushi. Mushi was the son of Merari, and Merari was the son of Levi.

48 Les Lévites, leurs frères, étaient aussi désignés pour tout le service du tabernacle de la maison du Seigneur.

The other descendants of Levi were appointed to do other work in the sacred tent, the place [where the people worshiped] Yahweh.

49 Mais Aaron et ses fils offraient ce qui se brûle sur l’autel de l’holocauste et sur l’autel du parfum, pour toute l’œuvre du Saint des Saints, et afin qu’ils priassent pour Israël, selon tout ce qu’avait ordonné Moïse, serviteur de Dieu.

Aaron and his descendants were the ones who placed on the altar the sacrifices that were to be burned completely, and they burned incense on another altar. Those sacrifices were in order that Yahweh would no longer be angry with the people of Israel for having sinned. Those men also did other work in the Very Holy Place in the sacred tent, obeying the instructions that Moses, who served God [well], had given to them.

50 Or ceux-ci sont les fils d’Aaron: Eléazar, son fils, dont le fils, Phinéès, dont le fils, Abisué,

These were the descendants of Aaron: Aaron’s son was Eleazar. Eleazar’s son was Phinehas. Phinehas’s son was Abishua.

51 Dont le fils, Bocci, dont le fils, Ozi, dont le fils, Zaraïas,

Abishua’s son was Bukki. Bukki’s son was Uzzi. Uzzi’s son was Zerahiah.

52 Dont le fils, Méraïoth, dont le fils, Amarias, dont le fils, Achitob,

Zerahiah’s son was Meraioth. Meraioth’s son was Amariah. Amariah’s son was Ahitub.

53 Dont le fils, Sadoc, dont le fils Achimaas.

Ahitub’s son was Zadok, and Zadok’s son was Ahimaaz.

54 Et voici leurs habitations dans les bourgs et les environs, c’est-à-dire les habitations des enfants d’Aaron, selon les familles des Caathites; car c’est à eux qu’elles étaient échues par le sort.

Here is a list of the places where Aaron’s descendants lived. Those who were descendants of Kohath were the first group to be allotted cities to live in.

55 On leur donna donc Hébron, dans la terre de Juda, et ses faubourgs tout autour;

They were allotted Hebron [city] in Judah and the pastureland around the city,

56 Mais les campagnes de la ville et les villages, on les donna à Caleb, fils de Jéphoné.

but the fields farther from the city and the villages near the city were given to Caleb, the son of Jephunneh.

57 Quant aux fils d’Aaron, on leur donna les villes de refuge, Hébron, et Lobna et ses faubourgs;

The descendants of Aaron [who were descendants of Kohath] were allotted Hebron, one of the cities [to which people could flee] and be protected [if they accidentally killed someone]. They also were allotted the towns and pastureland near Libnah, Jattir, Eshtemoa,

58 Jéther aussi et Esthémo, avec leurs faubourgs; et même Hélon et Dabir, avec leurs faubourgs,

Hilen, Debir,

59 Et encore Asan et Bethsémès, et leurs faubourgs;

Ashan, Juttah, and Beth-Shemesh.

60 Et de la tribu de Benjamin, Gabée et ses faubourgs, Almath avec ses faubourgs, comme aussi Anathoth avec ses faubourgs; en tout, treize villes, selon leurs familles.

They were also allotted Gibeon, Geba, Alemeth, and Anathoth [cities] from the tribe of Benjamin. Altogether, these clans descended from Kohath were allotted 13 towns.

61 Mais aux enfants de Caath, qui restaient de sa famille, on donna en possession, sur la demi-tribu de Manassé, dix villes;

The other clans descended from Kohath were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribe of Manasseh [that lived west of the Jordan River].

62 Et aux enfants de Gersom, selon leurs familles, sur la tribu d’Issachar, sur la tribu d’Aser, sur la tribu de Nephthali, et sur la tribu de Manassé, en Basan, treize villes.

The descendants of Gershon were allotted 13 cities and towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh that lived in [the] Bashan [region on the east side of the Jordan River].

63 Quant aux enfants de Mérari, on leur donna par le sort, selon leurs familles, sur la tribu de Ruben, sur la tribu de Gad, et sur la tribu de Zabulon, douze villes.

The descendants of Merari were allotted twelve cities and towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.

64 Ainsi les enfants d’Israël donnèrent aux Lévites ces villes et leurs faubourgs;

The leaders of Israel allotted those towns and the nearby pasturelands to the descendants of Levi.

65 Et ils donnèrent par le sort sur la tribu des enfants de Juda, et sur la tribu des enfants de Siméon, et sur la tribu des enfants de Benjamin, ces mêmes villes qu’ils appelèrent de leurs noms,

They also allotted to them the cities and towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin that were listed previously.

66 Et pour ceux qui étaient de la famille des enfants de Caath, il y eut des villes dans leur territoire de la tribu d’Ephraïm.

Some of the descendants of Kohath were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim.

67 Ils leur donnèrent donc j des villes de refuge, Sichem avec ses faubourgs, dans la montagne d’Ephraïm, et Gazer avec ses faubourgs;

They were allotted Shechem, which was one of the cities [to which people could flee] and be protected [if they accidentally killed someone], along with the nearby pastureland in the hills of Ephraim. They were also allotted these towns and pastureland near them: Gezer,

68 Jecmaam aussi avec ses faubourgs, et Béthoron également;

Jokmeam, Beth-Horon,

69 En outre, Hélon avec ses faubourgs, et Gethremmon de la même manière.

Aijalon, and Gath-Rimmon.

70 Mais sur la demi-tribu de Manassé, Aner et ses faubourgs, et Baalam et ses faubourgs, furent donnés, savoir, à ceux qui restaient de la famille de Caath.

The other descendants of Kohath were allotted Aner and Bileam towns and the nearby pastureland from the part of the tribe of Manasseh that lived west [of the Jordan River].

71 Et aux enfants de Gersom, sur la famille de la demi-tribu de Manassé, ce fut Gaulon en Basan et ses faubourgs, et Astharoth avec ses faubourgs,

The descendants of Gershon, who were part of the tribe of Manasseh, lived east [of the Jordan River]. They were allotted the cities and towns and pastureland near them: Golan in [the] Bashan and Ashtaroth [regions].

72 Sur la tribu d’Issachar, Cédés et ses faubourgs, et Dabéreth avec ses faubourgs;

From the tribe of Issachar they were allotted cities and towns and pastureland near Kedesh, Daberath,

73 Ramoth aussi et ses faubourgs, et Anem avec ses faubourgs;

Ramoth, and Anem.

74 Mais sur la tribu d’Aser, Masal avec ses faubourgs, et Abdon également;

From the tribe of Asher they were allotted cities and towns and pastureland near Mashal, Abdon,

75 Hucac aussi et ses faubourgs, et Rohob avec ses faubourgs;

Hukok, and Rehob.

76 Mais sur la tribu de Nephthali, Cédés en Galilée et ses faubourgs, Hamon avec ses faubourgs, et Cariathaïm et ses faubourgs.

And from the tribe of Naphtali they were allotted cities and towns and pastureland near Kedesh in [the] Galilee [region], and Hammon and Kiriathaim [towns].

77 De plus, aux enfants de Mérari, qui restaient encore, furent donnés, sur la tribu de Zabulon, Remmono et ses faubourgs, et Thabor avec ses faubourgs;

The other descendants of Levi, those descended from Merari, were allotted towns and pasturelands from the tribe of Zebulun near Jokneam, Kartah, Rimmono, and Tabor.

78 Au delà du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho, contre l’orient du Jourdain, ce fut sur la tribu de Ruben: Bosor, dans le désert, avec ses faubourgs, et Jassa avec ses faubourgs;

From the tribe of Reuben they were allotted cities and towns and pastureland near Bezer in the desert, Jahzah, Kedemoth, and Mephaath. The tribe of Reuben lived east of the Jordan [River], across from Jericho.

79 Cadémoth aussi et ses faubourgs, et Méphaat avec ses faubourgs;

80 De même que sur la tribu de Gad, Ramoth en Galaad et ses faubourgs, et Manaïm avec ses faubourgs;

From the tribe of Gad, they were allotted cities and towns and pastureland near Ramoth in [the] Gilead [region], [the cities of] Mahanaim,

81 Et de plus, Hésébon avec ses faubourgs, et Jézer avec ses faubourgs.

Heshbon, and Jazer.
