1 Ainsi David et les chefs de l’armée séparèrent pour le ministère les fils d’Asaph, d’Héman et d’Idithun, afin qu’ils chantassent des prophéties sur des harpes, des psaltérions et des cymbales, s’acquittant, selon leur nombre, de l’emploi à eux assigné.

Further, David and the chiefs of the servants of the holy place made selection of certain of the sons of Asaph and of Heman and of Jeduthun for the work of prophets, to make melody with corded instruments and brass; and the number of the men for the work they had to do was:

2 D’entre les fils d’Asaph, Zachur, Joseph, Nathania et Asaréla, fils d’Asaph, étaient sous la main d’Asaph, qui chantait des prophéties à côté du roi.

Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur and Joseph and Nethaniah and Asharelah, sons of Asaph; under the direction of Asaph, acting as a prophet under the orders of the king;

3 Pour Idithun, les fils d’Idithun étaient Godolias, Sori, Jéséias, Hasabias, Mathathias, six sous la main de leur père, Idithun, qui chantait des prophéties sur la harpe à la tête de ceux qui glorifiaient et louaient le Seigneur.

Of Jeduthun: the six sons of Jeduthun, Gedaliah and Zeri and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah and Mattithiah; under the direction of their father Jeduthun who, acting as a prophet, with corded instruments gave praise and glory to the Lord.

4 Quant à Héman, les fils d’Héman étaient Bocciaü, Mathaniaü, Oziel, Subuel, Jérimoth, Hananias, Hanani, Eliatha, Geddelthi, Romemthiézer, Jesbacassa, Mellothi, Othir, Mahazioth.

Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth;

5 Tous ceux-là étaient fils d’Héman, le Voyant du roi dans les paroles de Dieu, pour exalter sa puissance: et Dieu donna à Héman quatorze fils et trois filles.

All these were sons of Heman, the king's seer in the words of God. And to make great his power God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

6 Tous avaient été distribués sous la main de leur père, c’est-à-dire d’Asaph, d’Idithun et d’Héman, pour chanter dans le temple du Seigneur, sur des cymbales, des psaltérions et des harpes, et pour remplir les ministères de la maison du Seigneur, à côté du roi.

All these, under the direction of their father, made music in the house of the Lord, with brass and corded instruments, for the worship of the house of God; Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman being under the orders of the king.

7 Or le nombre de ceux-ci, avec leurs frères, qui, tous habiles, enseignaient les cantiques du Seigneur, était de deux cent quatre-vingt-huit.

And the number of them, with their brothers who were trained and expert in making melody to the Lord, was two hundred and eighty-eight.

8 Et ils jetèrent les sorts pour leurs classes sans distinction, tant le grand que le petit, le savant de même que celui qui manquait de savoir.

And selection was made of them for their special work, all having equal chances, small as well as great, the teacher as the learner.

9 Le premier sort donc sortit pour Joseph, issu d’Asaph; le second, pour Godolias, tant pour lui que pour ses fils et ses frères, au nombre de douze;

Now of the group of Asaph, the first name to come out was Joseph; the second Gedaliah; he and his brothers and sons were twelve?

10 Le troisième, pour Zachur, ses fils et ses frères, au nombre de douze;

The third Zaccur, with his sons and his brothers, twelve;

11 Le quatrième, pour Isari, ses fils et ses frères, au nombre de douze;

The fourth Izri, with his sons and his brothers, twelve;

12 Le cinquième, pour Nathanias, ses fils et ses frères, au nombre de douze;

The fifth Nethaniah, with his sons and his brothers, twelve;
