1 Chroniques 17
1 Or, lorsque David habitait en sa maison, il dit au prophète Nathan: Voilà que, moi, j’habite dans une maison de cèdre, et l’arche de l’alliance du Seigneur est sous des peaux.
After David began to live in his palace, he said to the prophet Nathan, “[It does not seem right that] I am here living in a palace made of cedar [wood], but Yahweh’s Sacred Chest is kept inside a tent!”
2 Et Nathan dit à David: Tout ce qui est en votre cœur, faites-le; car Dieu est avec vous.
Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you are thinking about doing, do it, because God is with/guiding you.”
3 Mais, en cette nuit-là, la parole de Dieu se fit entendre à Nathan, disant:
But that night God spoke [MTY] to Nathan. He said,
4 Va, et dis à David, mon serviteur: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ce n’est pas toi qui me bâtiras une maison pour l’habiter.
“Go and tell my servant David that this is what I, Yahweh, am saying to him: ‘You are not the one who should build a temple for me to live in.
5 Car je n’ai point demeuré dans une maison depuis le temps que j’ai retiré Israël de l’Egypte jusqu’à ce jour-ci; mais j’ai été toujours changeant les lieux du tabernacle, et dans une tente,
I have not lived in any building, from the day that I brought the people of Israel up [out of Egypt] until now. Instead, I have [lived in a tent], moving from one place to another with [the Israelis] when they moved to other places [DOU].
6 Demeurant avec tout Israël. Ai-je jamais parlé même à l’un des juges d’Israël, à qui j’avais ordonné de conduire mon peuple, et lui ai-je dit: Pourquoi ne m’avez-vous point bâti une maison de cèdre?
Wherever I went with all the Israelis [as they traveled], I never [RHQ] said to any of their leaders whom I appointed to lead [MET] them, “Why have you not built me a temple made of cedar [wood]?”’
7 Maintenant donc tu parleras ainsi à mon serviteur David: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées: C’est moi qui t’ai pris, lorsqu’au milieu des pâturages tu paissais ton troupeau, pour que tu fusses le chef de mon peuple Israël;
Therefore, this is what you should say to my servant David: ‘I, the Almighty Commander of the armies of angels, took you from a pasture where you were taking care of sheep, [and I appointed you] to be the ruler of my Israeli people.
8 Et j’ai été avec toi partout où tu es allé, et j’ai tué tous tes ennemis devant toi, et je t’ai fait un nom, comme celui d’un des grands qui sont célèbres sur la terre.
I have (been with/helped) you wherever you have gone, and I have gotten rid of all your enemies as you advanced. And now I will cause you to become very famous, as well-known as the names of the greatest men [who have ever lived] on the earth.
9 Et j’ai donné un lieu à mon peuple Israël: il y sera planté, et il y habitera, et il ne sera plus agité; et des fils d’iniquité ne l’accableront pas comme auparavant,
Formerly, during the time that I appointed leaders for my Israeli people, many violent groups oppressed them. But this will not happen any more. I have chosen a place where my Israeli people can live [peacefully] and no one will disturb them any more. I will give not allow them to [be attacked by] their enemies. And I will defeat all your enemies. I declare to you that I, Yahweh, will enable your descendants to rule after you [die].
10 Depuis les jours que j’ai donné des juges à mon peuple Israël, et que j’ai humilié tous tes ennemis. Je t’annonce donc que le Seigneur doit te bâtir une maison.
11 Et lorsque tu auras rempli tes jours pour aller vers tes pères, je susciterai après toi un prince de ta race, qui sera de tes propres fils, et j’affermirai son règne.
When your life ends [EUP], and you [die and] go to be with your ancestors [who have died], I will appoint one of your sons to become king, and I will enable his kingdom to (be strong/resist all their enemies).
12 C’est lui qui me bâtira une maison, et j’affermirai son trône à jamais.
He is the one who will [arrange for] a temple to be built for me. And I will enable his descendants to be kings [MTY] of Israel forever.
13 Moi, je serai son père, et lui sera mon fils, et je ne retirerai point ma miséricorde de lui, comme je l’ai retirée de celui qui a été avant toi.
I will be [like] a father to him, and [it will be as though] he [is] a son to me. I stopped loving [Saul, ] the one who was the king before you became king, but I will never stop loving your son.
14 Et je l’établirai dans ma maison et dans mon royaume jusqu’à jamais, et son trône sera très ferme à perpétuité.
I will cause him to rule over my people [MTY], and his kingdom will endure forever [DOU].’”
15 C’est selon toutes ces paroles et selon toute cette vision, que Nathan parla à David.
So Nathan reported to David everything that Yahweh had revealed to him.
16 Et lorsque le roi David fut venu, et qu’il se fut assis devant le Seigneur, il dit: Qui suis-je, moi, Seigneur mon Dieu, et quelle est ma maison, pour me faire de telles grâces?
Then David went [into the Sacred Tent] and sat in the presence of Yahweh, and prayed this: “Yahweh my God, I am certainly not [RHQ] worthy for you to have done all these things for me, and my family is not worthy, either.
17 Mais cela même a paru peu en votre présence; et c’est pourquoi vous avez parlé à votre serviteur de sa maison, pour l’avenir aussi, et vous m’avez rendu plus considéré que tous les autres hommes, Seigneur mon Dieu.
“And O God, now, in addition to everything else, you have spoken about what will happen to my descendants in the future for many generations. Yahweh my God, you have acted toward me as though I was the most important man [on the earth]!
18 Que peut ajouter de plus David, lorsque vous avez ainsi glorifié votre serviteur, et que vous l’avez connu?
“What more can I, David, say to you [for honoring me]? Although you know very well what I am like,
19 Seigneur, c’est à cause de votre serviteur que, selon votre cœur, vous en avez agi d’une manière si magnifique, et que vous avez voulu que toutes ces grandes œuvres fussent connues.
Yahweh, for my sake and because it is what you wanted to do, you have done these great things [for me], and you have revealed to me these things [that you are promising to do].
20 Seigneur, nul n’est semblable à vous, et il n’y a point d’autre Dieu hors vous, entre tous ceux dont nous avons ouï parler.
“Yahweh, you are great. There is no one like you. Only you are God, which is what we have always heard.
21 Car quel est l’autre peuple semblable à votre peuple Israël, nation unique sur la terre, vers laquelle Dieu est allé pour la délivrer et s’en faire un peuple, et pour chasser par sa puissance et par des terreurs les nations, devant la face de ce peuple qu’il avait délivré de l’Egypte?
And there is no nation in the world like Israel [RHQ]. Israel is the only nation on the earth whose people you rescued. You performed great and awesome miracles, rescuing our ancestors from [being slaves in] Egypt, and expelling the people of other people-groups [who were in Canaan].
22 Et vous avez établi votre peuple Israël pour être votre peuple à jamais; et vous, Seigneur, vous êtes devenu son Dieu.
You have caused us your Israeli people to belong to you forever, and you, Yahweh, have become our God!
23 Maintenant donc, Seigneur, que la parole que vous avez dite à votre serviteur, et touchant sa maison, soit confirmée pour toujours, et faites comme vous avez parlé.
“And now Yahweh, I pray that you will cause the things that you have promised to do for me and my descendants [MTY] to be fulfilled forever.
24 Que votre nom demeure et soit exalté à jamais, et que l’on dise: Le Seigneur des armées est le Dieu d’Israël, et la maison de David son serviteur subsiste toujours devant lui.
When that happens, you [MTY] will be famous forever. And people will exclaim, ‘The Almighty Commander of the armies of angels, is the God who rules Israel!’ And you will cause that forever there will be descendants [MTY] of mine who will rule.
25 Car c’est vous. Seigneur mon Dieu, qui avez ouvert l’oreille de votre serviteur, pour lui apprendre que vous lui bâtiriez une maison; et c’est pour cela que votre serviteur a trouvé confiance pour prier devant vous.
“You, my God, have revealed to me that you will cause [some of] my descendants to become kings. So I am brave enough to pray like this to you.
26 Maintenant donc. Seigneur, vous êtes Dieu; car vous avez promis à votre serviteur ces si grands bienfaits.
Yahweh, you are God! You have promised to do these good things for me.
27 Vous avez commencé à bénir la maison de votre serviteur, afin qu’elle soit toujours devant vous; car vous, Seigneur, la bénissant, elle sera bénie à jamais.
And now you, Yahweh, have [promised to] bless my descendants [MTY], in order that they will continue to rule forever. That will happen because you, Yahweh, are the one who has blessed them, and you will keep blessing them forever.”
