Philémon 1
1 Paul, prisonnier de Jésus-Christ, et Timothée, notre frère, — à Philémon, notre bien-aimé et notre compagnon d'oeuvre,
Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our beloved fellow worker,
2 ainsi qu'à Appie, notre soeur, à Archippe, notre compagnon d'armes, et à l'Église qui se réunit dans ta maison.
to the beloved Apphia, to Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the assembly in your house:
3 Que la grâce et la paix vous soient données de la part de Dieu, notre Père, et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 Je rends sans cesse grâces à mon Dieu, en faisant mention de toi dans mes prières;
I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers,
5 car j'entends parler de ta foi au Seigneur Jésus, et de la charité que tu témoignes à tous les saints.
hearing of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints,
6 Je lui demande que cette foi, qui nous est commune, se montre efficace, en faisant reconnaître tout le bien qui s'accomplit parmi nous pour Christ.
that the fellowship of your faith may become effective in the knowledge of every good thing which is in us in Christ Jesus.
7 J'ai éprouvé, en effet, une grande joie et une grande consolation à cause de ta charité, parce que, grâce à toi, frère, le coeur des saints a été soulagé.
For we have much joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.
8 C'est pourquoi, bien que j'aie en Christ toute liberté de te prescrire ce qui convient,
Therefore though I have all boldness in Christ to command you that which is appropriate,
9 j'aime mieux faire appel à ta charité. Étant ce que je suis, moi Paul, un vieillard, et, de plus, aujourd'hui le prisonnier de Jésus-Christ,
yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you, being such a one as Paul, the aged, but also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
10 je te prie pour mon fils que j'ai engendré dans les chaînes, pour Onésime,
I appeal to you for my child Onesimus, whom I have become the father of in my chains,
11 qui autrefois t'a été inutile, mais qui maintenant te sera très utile, et à moi aussi:
who once was useless to you, but now is useful to you and to me.
12 je te le renvoie, lui qui est comme une partie de moi-même.
I am sending him back. Therefore receive him, that is, my own heart,
13 J'aurais désiré le retenir auprès de moi, pour qu'il me servît, à ta place, dans les liens où je suis pour l'Évangile.
whom I desired to keep with me, that on your behalf he might serve me in my chains for the Good News.
14 Mais je n'ai rien voulu faire sans ton consentement, afin que le bien que tu feras ne soit pas forcé, mais volontaire.
But I was willing to do nothing without your consent, that your goodness would not be as of necessity, but of free will.
15 Peut-être, en effet, n'a-t-il été séparé de toi pour un temps, qu'afin que tu le recouvres pour toujours, (aiōnios g166)
For perhaps he was therefore separated from you briefly, that you would now have him wholly (aiōnios g166),
16 non plus comme un esclave, mais comme au-dessus d'un esclave, comme un frère bien-aimé, tout particulièrement aimé de moi, et bien plus encore de toi, selon la chair et selon le Seigneur!
no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother—especially to me, but how much rather to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.
17 Si donc tu me tiens pour ton ami, reçois-le comme moi-même.
If then you count me a partner, receive him as you would receive me.
18 Que s'il t'a fait quelque tort, ou s'il te doit quelque chose, porte-le-moi en compte.
But if he has wronged you at all or owes you anything, put that to my account.
19 Moi Paul, j'écris ceci de ma propre main: je te le rendrai — pour ne pas te rappeler que tu te dois toi-même à moi. —
I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it (not to mention to you that you owe to me even your own self besides).
20 Oui, frère, que je reçoive de toi cette joie dans le Seigneur; procure à mon coeur ce soulagement en Christ.
Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in the Lord.
21 Je t'écris, persuadé de ton obéissance, sachant que tu feras même plus que je ne dis!
Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even beyond what I say.
22 En même temps, prépare-toi à me donner aussi l'hospitalité; car j'espère vous être rendu, grâce à vos prières.
Also, prepare a guest room for me, for I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you.
23 Épaphras, qui est mon compagnon de captivité en Jésus-Christ, te salue,
Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,
24 ainsi que Marc, Aristarque, Démas et Luc, mes compagnons d'oeuvre.
as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.
25 Que la grâce du Seigneur Jésus-Christ soit avec votre esprit!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
