1 Généalogie de Jésus-Christ, fils de David, fils d'Abraham:
The History of Jesus Christ, Son of David, Son of Abraham.
2 Abraham fut père d'Isaac; Isaac, de Jacob; Jacob, de Juda et de ses frères.
Abraham begot Isaac. Isaac begot Jacob. Jacob begot Judah and his brothers.
3 Juda eut de Thamar Pharez et Zara. Pharez fut père d'Esrom; Esrom, d'Aram;
Judah had Pharez and Zarah by Tamar. Pharez begot Ezrom. Ezrom begot Aram.
4 Aram, d'Aminadab; Aminadab, de Naasson; Naasson, de Salmon.
Aram begot Aminidab. Aminidab begot Nashon. Nashon begot Salmon.
5 Salmon eut de Rahab Booz. Booz eut de Ruth Obed.
Salmon had Boaz by Rahab. Boaz had Obed by Ruth. Obed begot Jesse.
6 Obed fut père de Jessé; Jessé, du roi David. David fut père de Salomon, qu'il eut de la femme d'Urie.
Jesse begot David the king. David the king had Solomon, by her who had been the wife of Uriah.
7 Salomon fut père de Roboam; Roboam, d'Abia; Abia, d'Asa;
Solomon begot Rehoboam. Rehoboam begot Abia. Abia begot Asa.
8 Asa, de Josaphat; Josaphat, de Joram; Joram, d'Ozias.
Asa begot Jehoshaphat. Jehoshaphat begot Joram. Joram begot Uzziah.
9 Ozias fut père de Joatham; Joatham, d'Achaz; Achaz, d'Ézéchias.
Uzziah begot Jotham. Jotham begot Ahaz. Ahaz begot Hezekiah.
10 Ezéchias fut père de Manassé; Manassé, d'Amos; Amos, de Josias.
Hezekiah begot Manasseh. Manasseh begot Amon. Amon begot Josiah.
11 Josias fut père de Jéchonias et de ses frères, au temps de la déportation à Babylone.
Josiah had Jeconiah and his brothers, about the time of the migration into Babylon.
12 Après la déportation à Babylone, Jéchonias fut père de Salathiel; Salathiel, de Zorobabel;
After the migration into Babylon, Jeconiah begot Salathiel. Salathiel begot Zerubbabel.
13 Zorobabel, d'Abiud; Abiud, d'Éliakim; Éliakim, d'Azor.
Zerubbabel begot Abiud. Abiud begot Eliakim. Eliakim begot Azor.
14 Azor fut père de Sadoc; Sadoc, d'Achim; Achini, d'Éliud;
Azor begot Zadoc. Zadoc begot Achim. Achim begot Eliud.
15 Éliud, d'Éléazar; Éléazar, de Matthan; Matthan, de Jacob.
Eliud begot Eleazar. Eleazar begot Matthan. Matthan begot Jacob.
16 Jacob fut père de Joseph, l'époux de Marie, de laquelle est né Jésus, qui est appelé Christ.
Jacob begot Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17 Il y a donc en tout, depuis Abraham jusqu'à David, quatorze générations; depuis David jusqu'à la déportation à Babylone, quatorze générations; et de la déportation à Babylone jusqu'au Christ, quatorze générations.
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen; from David till the migration into Babylon, fourteen; from David till the migration into Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen.
18 Voici comment arriva la naissance de Jésus-Christ: Marie, sa mère, ayant été fiancée à Joseph, se trouva avoir conçu par la vertu de l'Esprit saint, avant qu'ils eussent habité ensemble.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened thus: Mary his mother had been espoused to Joseph; but before they came together, she proved to be with child by the Holy Spirit.
19 Alors Joseph, son époux, qui était homme de bien et ne voulait pas l'exposer à la honte, résolut de la répudier sans bruit.
Joseph her husband being a virtuous man, and unwilling to expose her, intended to divorce her privately.
20 Mais, comme il y pensait, voici qu'un ange du Seigneur lui apparut en songe et lui dit: Joseph, fils de David, ne crains point de prendre Marie pour ta femme; car l'enfant qu'elle a conçu vient de l'Esprit saint.
But while he was thinking upon this, an angel of the Lord appearing to him in a dream, said, Joseph, son of David, scruple not to take home Mary your wife; for her pregnancy is from the Holy Spirit.
21 Elle enfantera un fils, et tu lui donneras le nom de Jésus; car c'est lui qui sauvera son peuple de ses péchés.
And she shall bear a son, whom you shall call Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
22 Tout cela arriva afin que s'accomplît ce que le Seigneur avait dit par la bouche du prophète:
In all this what the Lord had spoken by the Prophet was verified,
23 «La vierge enfantera et mettra au monde un fils, qu'on nommera Emmanuel» — ce qui signifie: Dieu avec nous. —
"Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, who shall be called Immanuel;" which signifies, God with us.
24 Joseph, s'étant réveillé de son sommeil, fit comme l'ange du Seigneur lui avait commandé, et il prit sa femme avec lui.
When Joseph awoke, he did as the messenger of the Lord had commanded him, and took home his wife;
25 Mais il ne la connut point, jusqu'à ce qu'elle eût enfanté un fils, auquel il donna le nom de Jésus.
but knew her not, until she had brought forth her first born son, whom he named Jesus.
