Matthieu 26
1 Or, il arriva, quand Jésus eut achevé tous ces discours, qu'il dit à ses disciples:
When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples,
2 Vous savez que la Pâque aura lieu dans deux jours, et que le Fils de l'homme va être livré pour être crucifié.
“You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”
3 Alors les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens du peuple se réunirent dans la cour du souverain sacrificateur, nommé Caïphe,
Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people were gathered together in the courtyard of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,
4 et ils tinrent conseil pour s'emparer de Jésus par la ruse et le faire mourir.
and they plotted together to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.
5 Mais ils disaient: Que ce ne soit pas pendant la fête, de peur qu'il n'y ait du tumulte parmi le peuple.
But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be a riot among the people.”
6 Comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux,
Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7 une femme s'approcha de lui, portant un vase d'albâtre plein d'un parfum de grand prix, et elle le lui répandit sur la tête, pendant qu'il était à table.
a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at the table.
8 Les disciples, voyant cela, furent indignés
When his disciples saw it, they were indignant and said, “Why this waste?
9 et dirent: A quoi bon cette perte? On pouvait vendre ce parfum très cher et en donner le prix aux pauvres.
This ointment could have been sold for a large sum, and the money could have been given to the poor.”
10 Mais Jésus, s'en étant aperçu, leur dit: Pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme? Elle a fait une bonne action à mon égard!
Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you causing trouble for this woman? She has done a good deed to me.
11 Car vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous; mais moi, vous ne m'avez pas toujours.
You always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.
12 Si elle a répandu ce parfum sur mon corps, elle l'a fait en vue de ma sépulture.
She has put this ointment on my body to prepare me for burial.
13 En vérité, je vous le dis, partout où cet Évangile sera prêché, dans le monde entier, ce qu'elle a fait sera aussi raconté en mémoire d'elle.
Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of as a memorial to her.”
14 Alors l'un des Douze, appelé Judas Iscariote, alla trouver les principaux sacrificateurs,
Then one of the twelve, the one called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
15 et il leur dit: Que voulez-vous me donner, et je vous le livrerai? Ils lui comptèrent trente pièces d'argent.
and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him up to you?” So they set out for him thirty pieces of silver.
16 Et dès ce moment, il cherchait une occasion favorable pour livrer Jésus.
And from then on he was looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
17 Le premier jour de la fête des pains sans levain, les disciples s'approchèrent de Jésus et lui dirent: Où veux-tu que nous te préparions le repas de la Pâque?
On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and said to him, “Where do yoʋ want us to make preparations for yoʋ to eat the Passover?”
18 Il répondit: Allez à la ville chez un tel, et dites-lui: Le Maître dit: Mon temps est proche; c'est chez toi que je célébrerai la Pâque avec mes disciples.
He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near. I am going to keep the Passover with yoʋ, along with my disciples.”’”
19 Les disciples firent ce que Jésus leur avait ordonné, et ils préparèrent la Pâque.
So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
20 Le soir étant venu, Jésus se mit à table avec les douze disciples.
When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the twelve.
21 Et comme ils mangeaient, il dit: En vérité, je vous déclare que l'un de vous me trahira.
As they were eating, he said, “Truly I say to you, one of you will betray me.”
22 Ils furent fort affligés, et chacun d'eux se mit à lui dire: Est-ce moi, Seigneur?
Greatly distressed, they began to say to him one after another, “Surely not I, Lord?”
23 Mais il répondit: Celui qui a mis la main au plat avec moi, c'est celui qui me trahira.
Jesus answered, “The one who has dipped his hand with me into the dish will betray me.
24 Le Fils de l'homme s'en va, conformément à ce qui a été écrit à son sujet; mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est trahi! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme-là n'être jamais né!
The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”
25 Judas, qui le trahissait, prit la parole et dit: Maître, est-ce moi? Jésus lui répondit: Tu l'as dit.
Then Judas, who betrayed him, replied, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” Jesus said to him, “Yoʋ have said it yoʋrself.”
26 Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il le rompit, le donna à ses disciples, et dit: Prenez, mangez; ceci est mon corps.
As they were eating, Jesus took the bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take and eat this bread; this is my body.”
27 Ayant aussi pris la coupe et rendu grâces, il la leur donna, en disant: Buvez-en tous!
Then he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you,
28 Car ceci est mon sang, le sang de l'alliance, qui est répandu pour plusieurs, pour la rémission des péchés.
for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the remission of sins.
29 Je vous le dis, désormais je ne boirai plus de ce fruit de la vigne, jusqu'au jour où je le boirai nouveau avec vous dans le royaume de mon Père.
But I tell you, from this point forward I will certainly not drink again from this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it with you anew in the kingdom of my Father.”
30 Après le chant des psaumes, ils sortirent pour se rendre à la montagne des Oliviers.
And after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
31 Alors Jésus leur dit: Vous allez tous trouver en moi, cette nuit, une occasion de chute; car il est écrit: «Je frapperai le berger, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées.»
Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will fall away because of me this night. For it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32 Mais après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée.
But after I have been raised up, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.”
33 Pierre, prenant la parole, lui dit: Quand tu serais pour tous une occasion de chute, tu ne le seras jamais pour moi!
Peter answered him, “Even if everyone else falls away because of yoʋ, I will never fall away.”
34 Jésus lui répondit: En vérité, je te déclare que cette nuit même, avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois.
Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to yoʋ that on this night, before a rooster crows, yoʋ will deny me three times.”
35 Pierre reprit: Quand même il me faudrait mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai point! Et tous les disciples dirent la même chose.
But Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with yoʋ, I will certainly not deny yoʋ.” And all the disciples said the same thing.
36 Jésus vint avec ses disciples dans un lieu appelé Gethsémané; et il leur dit: Asseyez- vous ici, pendant que j'irai là pour prier.
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
37 Puis, ayant pris avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée, il commença à être saisi de tristesse et d'angoisse.
And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and distressed.
38 Alors il leur dit: Mon âme est triste jusqu'à la mort; demeurez ici et veillez avec moi.
Then Jesus said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to the point of death; stay here and keep watch with me.”
39 Puis, étant allé un peu plus loin, il se jeta le visage contre terre, priant et disant: Mon Père, s'il est possible, que cette coupe passe loin de moi! Toutefois, non pas ce que je veux, mais ce que tu veux.
And going a little farther, he fell on his face and prayed, “My Father, if possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as yoʋ will.”
40 Ensuite, il revint vers ses disciples et les trouva endormis; et il dit à Pierre: Ainsi, vous n'avez pu veiller une heure avec moi!
Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?
41 Veillez et priez, afin que vous ne tombiez pas en tentation; l'esprit est plein de bonne volonté, mais la chair est faible.
Keep watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 Il s'en alla encore pour la seconde fois, et il pria en disant: Mon Père, s'il n'est pas possible que cette coupe passe sans que je la boive, que ta volonté soit faite!
Again, he went away for a second time and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass from me unless I drink it, may yoʋr will be done.”
43 Étant revenu, il les trouva encore endormis; car leurs yeux étaient appesantis.
Then he came and found them sleeping again, for their eyes were heavy.
44 Puis, les ayant laissés, il s'en alla de nouveau et pria pour la troisième fois, répétant les mêmes paroles.
So he left them and went away again and prayed for a third time, saying the same thing.
45 Alors il vint vers ses disciples et leur dit: Vous dormez maintenant, et vous vous reposez! Voici que l'heure est venue, et le Fils de l'homme va être livré entre les mains des pécheurs.
Then he came to his disciples and said to them, “Sleep on now and take your rest! Behold, the hour has drawn near, and the Son of Man is delivered up into the hands of sinners.
46 Levez-vous, allons! Voici que celui qui me trahit s'approche.
Rise, let us go. Behold, my betrayer has drawn near.”
47 Comme il parlait encore, Judas, l'un des Douze, survint, et avec lui une grande troupe de gens armés d'épées et de bâtons, envoyés par les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens du peuple.
While he was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came. With him was a large crowd with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.
48 Celui qui le trahissait était convenu avec eux de ce signe: Celui auquel je donnerai un baiser, c'est lui, saisissez-le!
Now his betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, he is the one; arrest him.”
49 Et aussitôt, s'approchant de Jésus, il dit: Salut, Maître! Et il lui donna un baiser.
Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” And he kissed him.
50 Mais Jésus lui dit: Mon ami, c'est donc pour cela que tu es ici? Alors ils s'approchèrent, mirent la main sur Jésus et le saisirent.
Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have yoʋ come?” Then they came forward, took hold of Jesus, and arrested him.
51 Et voici que l'un de ceux qui étaient avec lui, étendit la main, tira son épée, en frappa le serviteur du souverain sacrificateur, et il lui emporta l'oreille.
And behold, one of the men with Jesus stretched out his hand, drew his sword, and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
52 Alors Jésus lui dit: émets ton épée en place; car tous ceux qui prendront l'épée, périront par l'épée.
Then Jesus said to him, “Put yoʋr sword back in its place, for all who take the sword will die by the sword.
53 Crois-tu que je ne pourrais pas invoquer mon Père, qui me donnerait aussitôt plus de douze légions d'anges?
Or do yoʋ think that I cannot call on my Father right now, and he will provide me with more than twelve legions of angels?
54 Comment donc s'accompliraient les Écritures, d'après lesquelles il faut que tout ceci arrive?
How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way?”
55 A ce moment, Jésus dit à la foule: Vous êtes sortis avec des épées et des bâtons, pour me prendre, comme si j'étais un brigand. Tous les jours, j'étais assis dans le temple et j'y enseignais, et vous ne m'avez point arrêté.
In that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out to arrest me with swords and clubs as you would against a robber? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me.
56 Mais tout cela est arrivé, afin que fût accompli ce qui a été écrit par les prophètes. Alors tous les disciples l'abandonnèrent et s'enfuirent.
But all this has taken place so that the Scriptures of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.
57 Ceux qui avaient arrêté Jésus l'emmenèrent chez Caïphe, le souverain sacrificateur, où les scribes et les anciens étaient réunis.
Now those who had arrested Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
58 Pierre le suivit de loin jusqu'à la cour du souverain sacrificateur; il y entra et s'assit avec les gardes pour voir comment cela finirait.
But Peter was following him at a distance, coming as far as the courtyard of the high priest. After going inside, he sat with the officers to see the outcome.
59 Cependant, les principaux sacrificateurs et le Sanhédrin tout entier cherchaient quelque faux témoignage contre Jésus pour le faire mourir.
Now the chief priests, the elders, and the whole Sanhedrin were seeking false testimony against Jesus, so that they could put him to death,
60 Mais ils n'en trouvaient point, bien que plusieurs faux témoins se fussent présentés. Enfin, il en vint deux, qui parlèrent ainsi:
but they did not find any. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they did not find any.
61 Cet homme a dit: Je puis détruire le temple de Dieu et le rebâtir en trois jours.
But at last two false witnesses came forward and declared, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”
62 Alors le souverain sacrificateur se leva et lui dit: Ne réponds-tu rien à ce que ces hommes déposent contre toi? Mais Jésus gardait le silence.
So the high priest stood up and said to him, “Do yoʋ make no answer? What are these men testifying against yoʋ?”
63 Le souverain sacrificateur, reprenant, lui dit: Je t'adjure, par le Dieu vivant, de nous dire si tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu.
But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I adjure yoʋ by the living God to tell us if yoʋ are the Christ, the Son of God.”
64 Jésus lui répondit: Tu l'as dit! Et même, je vous le déclare, désormais vous verrez le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite de la puissance de Dieu et venant sur les nuées du ciel.
Jesus said to him, “Yoʋ have said it yoʋrself. Nevertheless I say to you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
65 Alors le souverain sacrificateur déchira ses vêtements, en disant: Il a blasphémé; qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins? Vous venez d'entendre le blasphème.
Then the high priest tore his garments and said, “He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, you have now heard his blasphemy.
66 Que vous en semble? Ils répondirent: Il mérite la mort!
What do you think?” They answered, “He deserves death.”
67 Alors ils lui crachèrent au visage, et ils lui donnèrent des coups de poing. D'autres lui donnaient des soufflets,
Then they spit in his face and struck him. Others slapped him,
68 en disant: Christ, prophétise! Dis-nous qui t'a frappé.
saying, “Prophesy to us, yoʋ Christ! Who is it that struck yoʋ?”
69 Cependant, Pierre était assis dehors dans la cour. Une servante s'approcha de lui et lui dit: Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus, le Galiléen.
Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him and said, “Yoʋ also were with Jesus the Galilean.”
70 Mais il le nia devant tous, en disant: Je ne sais ce que tu dis.
But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what yoʋ are talking about!”
71 Et comme il s'en allait vers le vestibule, une autre servante le vit et dit à ceux qui étaient là: Cet homme aussi était avec Jésus, le Nazaréen,
Then he went out to the gateway, and another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
72 Mais il le nia encore, en disant avec serment: Je ne connais point cet homme.
But again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man.”
73 Un peu après, ceux qui étaient là, s'étant approchés, dirent à Pierre: Assurément, tu es aussi de ces gens-là; car ton langage te fait reconnaître.
After a little while, the people standing there came up and said to Peter, “Truly yoʋ also are one of them, for even yoʋr accent gives yoʋ away.”
74 Alors il se mit à proférer des imprécations accompagnées de serments, en disant: Je ne connais point cet homme! Et aussitôt, le coq chanta.
Then he began to invoke curses and to swear, saying, “I do not know the man.” And immediately a rooster crowed.
75 Pierre se souvint de la parole de Jésus qui lui avait dit: Avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois. Et, étant sorti, il pleura amèrement.
Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said to him: “Before a rooster crows, yoʋ will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.
