Luc 23
1 Puis toute l'assemblée, s'étant levée, le mena devant Pilate.
And the whole assemblage of them arose, and carried him before Pilate.
2 Alors ils se mirent à l'accuser, en disant: Nous avons trouvé cet homme soulevant notre nation, défendant de payer le tribut à César, et se disant le Christ, le Roi.
And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is the Christ, the king.
3 Pilate lui demanda: C'est toi qui es le roi des Juifs? Jésus lui répondit: Tu le dis!
And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the king of the Jews? And he answering said to him, I am.
4 Alors Pilate dit aux principaux sacrificateurs et au peuple: Je ne trouve rien de criminel en cet homme.
And Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, I find nothing criminal in this man.
5 Mais ils insistaient plus fortement en disant: Il soulève le peuple, en enseignant dans toute la Judée; après avoir commencé par la Galilée, il est venu jusqu'ici.
But they were the more violent, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judaea, beginning from Galilee, even to this place.
6 Lorsque Pilate entendit cela, il demanda si cet homme était Galiléen.
And when Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilaean.
7 Apprenant que Jésus était de la juridiction d'Hérode, il le renvoya à Hérode, qui se trouvait aussi à Jérusalem en ces jours-là.
And on learning that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was himself also at Jerusalem at this time.
8 Quand Hérode vit Jésus, il eut une grande joie; car depuis longtemps il désirait le voir, à cause de ce qu'il avait entendu dire de lui, et il espérait qu'il lui verrait faire quelque miracle.
Now Herod, when he saw Jesus, was very glad; for he had been wishing to see him for a long time, because he had heard about him; and he hoped to see some sign wrought by him.
9 Il lui adressa donc plusieurs questions; mais Jésus ne lui répondit rien.
And he put many questions to him; but he gave him no answer.
10 Et les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes étaient là, qui l'accusaient avec véhémence.
And the chief priests and scribes stood vehemently accusing him.
11 Alors Hérode, ainsi que les gens de sa garde, le traita avec mépris et se moqua de lui; puis, après l'avoir revêtu d'un manteau éclatant, il le renvoya à Pilate.
And Herod also with his guard of soldiers set him at nought and mocked him, and having arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, sent him back to Pilate.
12 Ce jour-là même, Pilate et Hérode devinrent amis, d'ennemis qu'ils étaient auparavant.
And Herod and Pilate on that day became friends with each other; for they had before been at enmity.
13 Pilate, ayant réuni les principaux sacrificateurs, les magistrats et le peuple, leur dit:
And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 Vous m'avez amené cet homme, l'accusant de soulever le peuple; et cependant, après l'avoir interrogé en votre présence, je ne l'ai trouvé coupable d'aucun des crimes dont vous l'accusez,
said to them, Ye have brought to me this man, as one that perverteth the people; and behold, I have examined him before you, and have found nothing in this man to sustain the charges which ye bring against him.
15 ni Hérode non plus, puisqu'il nous l'a renvoyé: il n'a donc rien fait qui mérite la mort.
No, nor yet Herod; for he hath sent him back to us; and lo! nothing deserving death hath been done by him.
16 Ainsi, après l'avoir fait châtier, je le relâcherai.
I will therefore chastise, and release him.
17 [Or, à chaque fête, Pilate était obligé de leur relâcher un prisonnier].
Now it was necessary for him to release to them one at the feast.
18 Alors ils se mirent à crier tous ensemble: Fais mourir celui-ci, et relâche-nous Barabbas!
And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas;
19 Or, cet homme avait été mis en prison pour une sédition qui avait eu lieu dans la ville, et pour un meurtre.
who, for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, had been cast into prison.
20 Pilate leur parla de nouveau, dans le dessein de délivrer Jésus.
But Pilate again spoke to them, wishing to release Jesus.
21 Mais ils crièrent; Crucifie-le! crucifie-le!
But they cried out, saying, Crucify, crucify him!
22 Il leur dit pour la troisième fois: Quel mal a-t-il donc fait? Je n'ai rien trouvé en lui qui mérite la mort. Ainsi, après l'avoir fait châtier, je le relâcherai.
And he said to them the third time, Why, what evil hath this man done? I have found him guilty of nothing deserving death; I will therefore chastise, and release him.
23 Mais ils insistaient, demandant à grands cris qu'il fût crucifié, et leurs clameurs l'emportèrent.
But they were urgent with loud voices, demanding that he should he crucified; and their voices prevailed.
24 Pilate prononça la sentence qui répondait à leur désir.
And Pilate gave sentence that what they demanded should be done.
25 Il relâcha donc celui qui avait été mis en prison pour sédition et pour meurtre, et qu'ils réclamaient; et il abandonna Jésus à leur volonté.
And he released him who for sedition and murder had been cast into prison, whom they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.
26 Comme ils l'emmenaient, ils prirent un homme de Cyrène, nommé Simon, qui revenait des champs; et ils le chargèrent de la croix, pour qu'il la portât derrière Jésus.
And when they had led him away, they laid hold on one Simon a Cyrenaean, coming out of the country, and laid on him the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
27 Le peuple, en grande multitude, suivait Jésus, ainsi que des femmes qui se frappaient la poitrine et qui pleuraient sur lui.
And there followed him a great multitude of the people, and of women who were bewailing and lamenting him.
28 Mais Jésus, se tournant vers elles, leur dit: Filles de Jérusalem, ne pleurez pas sur moi, mais pleurez sur vous-mêmes et sur vos enfants!
But Jesus turning to them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me; but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
29 Car voici que les jours viennent où l'on dira: Heureuses les stériles, heureuses les entrailles qui n'ont pas enfanté, et les mamelles qui n'ont point allaité!
For lo! the days are coming, in which they will say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never gave nourishment.
30 Alors les hommes se mettront à dire aux montagnes: Tombez sur nous!!- et aux coteaux: Couvrez-nous!
Then will they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
31 Car si l'on fait ces choses au bois vert, qu'arrivera-t-il au bois sec?
For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?
32 On conduisait aussi deux autres hommes, des malfaiteurs, pour les faire mourir avec lui.
And two others, who were malefactors, were led with him to be put to death.
33 Quand ils furent arrivés au lieu appelé le lieu du Crâne, ils le crucifièrent là, ainsi que les malfaiteurs, l'un à sa droite, et l'autre à sa gauche.
And when they had come to the place which is called the Skull, they there crucified him, and the malefactors; one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
34 Mais Jésus disait: Père, pardonne-leur; car ils ne savent ce qu'ils font. Puis, ils se partagèrent ses vêtements, en les tirant au sort.
And Jesus said, Father, forgive them! for they know not what they do. And they divided his garments, casting lots.
35 Le peuple se tenait là et regardait. Et les chefs se moquaient, en disant: Il en a sauvé d'autres; qu'il se sauve lui-même, s'il est le Christ, l'élu de Dieu!
And the people stood looking on; and the rulers sneered, saying, Others he saved; let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, the chosen one.
36 Les soldats aussi le tournaient en dérision. Ils s'approchaient et lui présentaient du vinaigre
And the soldiers also came up to him and made sport of him, offering him vinegar,
37 en disant: Si tu es le roi des Juifs, sauve-toi toi-même!
and saying, If thou art the king of the Jews, save thyself.
38 Au-dessus de sa tête, il y avait cette inscription: Celui-ci est le roi des Juifs.
There was also an inscription over him: “This is the king of the Jews.”
39 Or, l'un des malfaiteurs qui avaient été crucifiés, l'injuriait, en disant: N'es-tu pas le Christ? Sauve-toi toi-même, et nous avec toi!
And one of the crucified malefactors railed at him, saying, Art thou not the Christ? save thyself and us.
40 Mais l'autre, le reprenant, lui dit: Ne crains-tu pas Dieu, toi qui subis la même condamnation?
But the other answering said, rebuking him, Dost not thou fear God, since thou art in the same condemnation?
41 Pour nous, ce n'est que justice, car nous recevons ce que nos actions ont mérité; mais celui-ci n'a fait aucun mal.
And we indeed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42 Puis il disait; Jésus, souviens-toi de moi, quand tu viendras dans ton règne!
And he said, Jesus, remember me when thou comest in thy kingdom.
43 Jésus lui répondit: En vérité, je te le déclare, aujourd'hui tu seras avec moi dans le paradis.
And he said to him, Truly do I say to thee, Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise.
44 Il était déjà environ la sixième heure, et il y eut des ténèbres sur tout le pays jusqu'à la neuvième heure.
And it was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,
45 Le soleil s'obscurcit, et le voile du temple se déchira par le milieu.
the sun having failed; and the veil of the temple was rent in two.
46 Alors Jésus jeta un grand cri et dit: Père, je remets mon esprit entre tes mains! Et après avoir dit cela, il expira.
And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit! And having said this, he expired.
47 Le centenier, voyant ce qui était arrivé, donna gloire à Dieu et dit: Certainement cet homme était juste.
And the centurion, seeing what was done, gave glory to God, saying, Surely this was a righteous man.
48 Et tout le peuple qui était accouru à ce spectacle, voyant ce qui s'était passé, s'en retournait en se frappant la poitrine.
And all the multitudes that had come together to that sight, when they had seen the things which were done, returned, beating their breasts.
49 Mais ceux qui connaissaient Jésus, ainsi que les femmes qui l'avaient suivi de la Galilée, se tenaient tous à distance et regardaient.
And all his acquaintances stood at a distance, and women that came with him from Galilee, beholding these things.
50 Il y avait un homme, appelé Joseph, qui était membre du Sanhédrin, homme droit et juste,
And lo! a man named Joseph, of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, being a councilor, and a good and righteous man,
51 qui n'avait pas consenti au dessein des autres, ni à ce qu'ils avaient fait. Il était d'Arimathée, ville de Judée, et il attendait le royaume de Dieu.
who was not consenting to their purpose and deed, and was waiting for the kingdom of God, —
52 Il vint donc trouver Pilate et lui demanda le corps de Jésus.
this man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.
53 Après l'avoir descendu de la croix, il l'enveloppa d'un linceul et le déposa dans un tombeau, taillé dans le roc, où personne n'avait encore été mis.
And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock; wherein no one had yet lain.
54 C'était le jour de la préparation, et le sabbat allait commencer.
And it was the day of preparation, and the sabbath was now coming on.
55 Les femmes qui étaient venues de la Galilée avec Jésus, ayant accompagné Joseph, virent le tombeau, et comment le corps de Jésus y avait été placé.
And the women also, who had come with him from Galilee, followed after, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid.
56 Puis s'en étant retournées, elles préparèrent des aromates et des parfums. Le jour du sabbat, elles se reposèrent, conformément à la loi.
And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and on the sabbath they rested, according to the commandment.
