Hébreux 10
1 En effet, la loi, n'ayant que l'ombre des biens à venir, et non la forme réelle des choses, ne peut jamais, par les mêmes sacrifices qu'on offre chaque année à perpétuité, amener à la perfection ceux qui s'approchent ainsi de Dieu.
For the law having but a faint shadow of good things to come, and not the full image of the things, can never, even by the great annual sacrifices which they offer statedly, make the comers thereunto perfect.
2 Autrement, n'aurait-on pas cessé de les offrir, puisque ceux qui rendent ce culte, une fois purifiés, n'auraient plus eu leur conscience chargée de péchés?
For then they would have ceased to be offered, because the sacrificers, being once purified, would no longer retain any consciousness of sins.
3 Au contraire, le souvenir des péchés est renouvelé chaque année par ces sacrifices.
Whereas in these very sacrifices there is a recalling of sins to mind every year.
4 Car il est impossible que le sang des taureaux et des boucs ôte les péchés.
For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
5 C'est pourquoi le Christ, entrant dans le monde, dit: «Tu n'as voulu ni sacrifice, ni offrande, mais tu m'as formé un corps.
Wherefore upon his coming into the world He saith, "Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire, but a body hast thou prepared me:
6 Tu n'as agréé ni les holocaustes, ni les offrandes pour le péché.
in whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hadst no pleasure:
7 Alors j'ai dit: Je viens — il est parlé de moi dans le Livre — oui, je viens, ô Dieu, pour faire ta volonté.»
then said I, Lo I come, as in the volume of the book it is written of me, to do thy will, O God."
8 Après avoir dit d'abord: «Tu n'as voulu, tu n'as agréé ni sacrifices, ni offrandes, ni holocaustes, ni oblations pour le péché», — ce qui pourtant est prescrit par la loi, —
Having said before, "Thou didst not desire, nor hadst pleasure in, sacrifice and offering, and whole burnt-offerings, and sacrifices for sin," (which are offered by the law) then He adds,
9 il ajoute: «Me voici: Je viens pour faire ta volonté.» Il abolit ainsi le premier ordre de sacrifices pour établir le second.
"Lo I come to do thy will, O God." (He taketh away the first, that He may establish the second.)
10 C'est en vertu de cette volonté que nous avons été sanctifiés, par le sacrifice que Jésus-Christ a fait, une fois pour toutes, de son propre corps.
By which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 De plus, tandis que tout sacrificateur se présente, chaque jour, pour faire le service et offrir plusieurs fois les mêmes sacrifices qui ne peuvent jamais ôter les péchés,
And indeed every priest under the law standeth daily ministring, and frequently offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
12 celui-ci, après avoir offert un seul sacrifice pour les péchés, s'est assis pour toujours à la droite de Dieu,
but He having offered one sacrifice for sins, is for ever sat down at the right hand of God;
13 attendant désormais que ses ennemis soient mis sous ses pieds, pour lui servir de marchepied.
waiting for the future, till his enemies be put under his feet.
14 En effet, par une seule oblation, il a amené pour toujours à la perfection ceux qui sont sanctifiés.
For by one offering He hath perfected for ever those that are sanctified.
15 Et c'est aussi ce que nous atteste le Saint-Esprit; car, après avoir dit:
And of this the holy Ghost also beareth witness with us:
16 «Voici l'alliance que je traiterai avec eux après ces jours-là, dit le Seigneur: Je mettrai mes lois dans leurs coeurs, et je les graverai dans leur esprit», — il ajoute:
for after He had said, "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and on their minds will I inscribe them;
17 «Et je ne me souviendrai plus de leurs péchés ni de leurs iniquités.»
He adds, and their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more."
18 Or, là où il y a pardon, il n'est plus besoin d'oblation pour le péché.
Now where there is such a remission of these, there needs no more offering for sin.
19 Ainsi donc, frères, puisque nous avons un libre accès dans le lieu très saint, grâce au sang de Jésus,
Having therefore, brethren, free admission into the holy places by the blood of Jesus,
20 par le chemin nouveau et vivant qu'il nous a frayé à travers le voile, c'est-à-dire à travers sa propre chair,
the new and living way which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say,
21 et puisque nous avons un grand sacrificateur établi sur la maison de Dieu,
his flesh, and having a great high-priest over the house of God,
22 approchons-nous avec un coeur sincère, avec une foi pleine et entière, le coeur purifié des souillures d'une mauvaise conscience, et le corps lavé d'une eau pure.
let us draw near with sincerity, in the full assurance of faith, having our hearts cleansed from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Retenons fermement la profession de notre espérance, car Celui qui a fait les promesses est fidèle.
Let us inflexibly retain the profession of our hope,
24 Veillons les uns sur les autres pour nous exciter à la charité et aux bonnes oeuvres,
(for He is faithful who hath promised) and let us observe each other to the incitement of love and good works:
25 et n'abandonnons pas nos assemblées, comme quelques-uns ont coutume de faire, mais exhortons-nous les uns les autres, et cela d'autant plus que vous voyez approcher le grand jour.
not forsaking our assemblies, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more as ye see the day approaching.
26 En effet, si nous péchons volontairement, après avoir reçu la connaissance de la vérité, il ne reste plus de sacrifice pour les péchés,
For if we sin wilfully after having received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins;
27 mais seulement la terrible attente du jugement et le feu ardent, qui doit dévorer les rebelles.
but a dreadful expectation of judgement, and a fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 Celui qui a violé la loi de Moïse, meurt sans miséricorde, sur la déposition de deux ou trois témoins.
If any one that violateth the law of Moses, dieth without mercy under two or three witnesses,
29 Ne pensez-vous pas qu'il sera jugé digne d'un châtiment bien plus sévère, celui qui aura foulé aux pieds le Fils de Dieu, qui aura tenu pour vil le sang de l'alliance par lequel il a été sanctifié, et qui aura outragé l'Esprit de la grâce?
of how much greater punishment, think ye, shall he be counted worthy, who hath trampled under foot the Son of God, and accounted the blood of the covenant, by which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and abused the Spirit of grace?
30 Car nous connaissons celui qui a dit: «C'est à moi qu'appartient la vengeance; c'est moi qui rétribuerai», — dit le Seigneur.
For we know who hath said, "To me belongeth vengeance, I will recompense, saith the Lord:" and again, "The Lord will judge his people."
31 Et ailleurs: «Le Seigneur jugera son peuple.» C'est une chose terrible que de tomber entre les mains du Dieu vivant!
It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
32 Rappelez-vous ces premiers temps, où, après avoir été éclairés, vous avez soutenu un grand combat de souffrances:
But call to remembrance the former days, in which after being enlightened, ye sustained a great conflict of sufferings;
33 d'un côté, vous avez été exposés comme en spectacle aux opprobres et aux afflictions, de l'autre, vous avez pris part aux maux de ceux qui subissaient les mêmes traitements.
partly, being made a public spectacle by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, as ye became associates of those who were so treated:
34 Car vous avez eu compassion des prisonniers, et vous avez accepté avec joie qu'on vous ravît vos biens, sachant que vous en avez de meilleurs et qui durent toujours.
for ye sympathized with me in my bonds, and ye took joyfully the plundering of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.
35 N'abandonnez donc pas votre confiance, à laquelle une grande récompense est réservée.
Cast not away therefore your couragious profession, which hath a great recompence of reward.
36 Car vous avez besoin de persévérance, afin qu'après avoir fait la volonté de Dieu, vous obteniez ce qui vous a été promis.
For ye have need of patience, that having done the will of God ye may receive the promise.
37 Encore un peu, bien peu de temps, et celui qui doit venir, viendra; il ne tardera point.
For yet a little while, and He, that is coming, will come, and will not delay:
38 «Et mon juste vivra par la foi; mais s'il se retire, mon âme ne prend point plaisir en lui.»
and the just shall live by faith, but if any draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
39 Pour nous, nous ne sommes pas de ceux qui se retirent pour leur perte, mais de ceux qui gardent la foi pour sauver leur âme.
But we are not of those who withdraw to perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
