Matthieu 21
1 Quand ils furent près de Jérusalem et furent arrivés à Bethphagé, aux environs du mont des Oliviers, Jésus envoya deux disciples,
When they drew near to Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
2 en leur disant: «Allez à ce village qui est devant vous, et vous trouverez tout de suite une ânesse attachée et son ânon avec elle. Déliez-les et amenez-les-moi.
saying to them, "Go into the village that is opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them, and bring them to me.
3 Et si l'on vous dit quelque chose, vous répondrez: «Le Seigneur en a besoin»; on les enverra immédiatement.»
And if anyone says anything to you, you are to say, 'Because the Lord needs them,' and he will send them at once."
4 (Or, tout cela eut lieu afin que fût accomplie la parole du prophète:
This took place that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,
5 «Dites à la fille de Sion: Voici que ton Roi vient à toi, Plein de douceur, monté sur une ânesse Et sur un ânon, le petit d'une bête de somme.»)
Say to the daughter of Zion, "Look, your King comes to you, humble, and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."
6 Les disciples partirent et firent ce que Jésus leur avait ordonné.
The disciples went, and did just as Jesus directed them,
7 Ils amenèrent l'ânesse et l'ânon; ils placèrent sur eux leurs manteaux et Jésus s'assit dessus.
and brought the donkey and the colt, and placed their clothes on them; and he sat on them.
8 La plus grande partie du peuple étendait ses vêtements sur le chemin; d'autres coupaient des branches aux arbres et en jonchaient la route.
A very large crowd spread their clothes on the road. Others cut branches from the trees, and spread them on the road.
9 Et toute cette multitude, ceux qui le précédaient et ceux qui le suivaient, criait: «Hosanna pour le Fils de David! Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur! Hosanna au plus haut des cieux!»
The crowds who went before him, and who followed kept shouting, "Hosanna to the son of David. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest."
10 A son entrée dans Jérusalem, la ville entière fut en émoi; on disait: «Qui est celui-ci?»
When he had come into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred up, saying, "Who is this?"
11 et les multitudes répondaient: «C'est le prophète Jésus de Nazareth de Galilée.»
The crowds said, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee."
12 Jésus entra dans le Temple, et il en chassa tous les vendeurs et tous les acheteurs; il renversa les tables des changeurs, ainsi que les sièges des marchands de colombes,
Jesus entered into the temple, and drove out all of those who sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the money changers' tables and the seats of those who sold the doves.
13 et il leur dit: Il est écrit: «Ma maison s'appellera maison de prière.» «Eh bien! vous en faites une caverne de brigands.»
He said to them, "It is written, 'My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you have made it a den of robbers."
14 Dans le Temple, aveugles et estropiés s'approchèrent de lui, et il les guérit.
The blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.
15 Voyant les merveilles qu'il accomplissait et les enfants crier dans le Temple et dire: «Hosanna pour le Fils de David!» les chefs des prêtres et les Scribes furent indignés:
But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the son of David." they were indignant,
16 «Est-ce que tu entends ce que ceux-là crient?» lui dirent-ils. «Oui, leur répondit Jésus, n'avez-vous donc jamais lu cette parole: Dans la bouche des petits enfants et des nourrissons qu'on allaite, Tu t'es préparé des louanges.»
and said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" Jesus said to them, "Yes. Did you never read, 'Out of the mouth of children and infants you have prepared praise?'"
17 Puis il les quitta et sortit de la ville pour aller à Béthanie, où il passa la nuit.
He left them, and went out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.
18 Le matin, en revenant à la ville, il eut faim,
Now in the morning, as he returned to the city, he was hungry.
19 et voyant sur le chemin un figuier isolé, il s'en approcha; mais il n'y trouva rien, il n'y avait que des feuilles. Il lui dit alors: «Que jamais fruit ne naisse de toi désormais!» (aiōn g165)
Seeing a fig tree by the road, he came to it, and found nothing on it but leaves. He said to it, "Let there be no fruit from you forever." Immediately the fig tree withered away. (aiōn g165)
20 A l'instant même le figuier sécha. A cette vue, les disciples s'étonnèrent et ils dirent: «Comment ce. figuier s'est-il instantanément desséché?»
When the disciples saw it, they were amazed, saying, "How did the fig tree immediately wither away?"
21 Jésus leur répondit par ces paroles: «En vérité, je vous le dis: si vous aviez de la foi et que vous ne doutiez point, non seulement vous feriez ce que j'ai fait à ce figuier, mais quand même vous diriez à cette montagne: Soulève-toi et jette-toi dans la mer, cela s'accomplirait.
Jesus answered them, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith, and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you told this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it would be done.
22 Tout ce que, dans la prière, vous demanderez avec foi, vous le recevrez.»
All things, whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
23 Quand il fut entré dans le Temple, les chefs des prêtres et les Anciens du peuple vinrent à lui, pendant qu'il enseignait, et lui dirent: «En vertu de quelle autorité fais-tu ces choses? et qui t'a donné cette autorité?»
When he had come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, "By what authority do you do these things? Who gave you this authority?"
24 Jésus leur répondit par ces paroles: «Je vous ferai, moi aussi, une question, une seule, et si vous me répondez, je vous dirai en vertu de quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
Jesus answered them, "I also will ask you one question, which if you tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.
25 Le baptême de Jean, d'où venait-il? du ciel ou des hommes?» Or ils faisaient, à part eux, ce raisonnement:
The baptism of John, where was it from? From heaven or from people?" They reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask us, 'Why then did you not believe him?'
26 «Si nous répondons: du ciel, — il nous dira: Pourquoi donc ne l'avez-vous pas cru? Et si nous répondons: des hommes, — nous avons à craindre la multitude, car tous tiennent Jean pour prophète.»
But if we say, 'From people,' we fear the crowd, for all hold John as a prophet."
27 Alors ils répondirent ainsi à Jésus: «Nous ne savons.» Et lui, il leur dit à son tour: «Je ne vous dis pas, moi non plus, en vertu de quelle autorité je fais ces choses.»
They answered Jesus, and said, "We do not know." He also said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
28 «Que pensez-vous de ceci: un homme avait deux fils. Il s'adressa au premier et lui dit: «Mon enfant, va travailler aujourd'hui à ma vigne.»
But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first, and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.'
29 Celui-ci répondit: «J'y vais, seigneur» — et n'y alla pas.
He answered, 'I will not,' but afterward he changed his mind, and went.
30 Venant ensuite à un autre fils, le père lui parla de même. Celui-là répondit: «Je ne veux pas» — et plus tard, touché de repentir, il y alla.
And he came to the other, and said the same thing. And he answered and said, 'I go, sir,' but he did not go.
31 Lequel des deux a fait la volonté de son père?» — «C'est le dernier» répondirent-ils. Et Jésus ajouta: «En vérité, je vous le dis, les publicains et les femmes de mauvaise vie vous précèdent dans le Royaume de Dieu.
Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering into the Kingdom of God before you.
32 Jean, en effet, est venu à vous dans la voie de la justice et, vous ne l'avez pas cru. Les publicains et les femmes de mauvaise vie l'ont cru; et vous, qui avez vu cela, vous ne vous êtes pas repentis, vous n'avez pas fini par le croire.»
For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. When you saw it, you did not even repent afterward, that you might believe him.
33 Écoutez une autre parabole: Il y avait un homme, un maître de maison, qui avait planté une vigne; après l'avoir entourée d'une haie, y avoir creusé une cuve et construit une tour, il la loua à des vignerons et fit une absence.
"Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, set a hedge about it, dug a winepress in it, built a tower, leased it out to tenant farmers, and went on a journey.
34 Lorsque vint la saison de la récolte, il envoya ses serviteurs aux vignerons pour recueillir le produit de sa vigne.
When the season for the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to receive his fruit.
35 Or les vignerons s'emparèrent de ces serviteurs, ils battirent celui-ci, ils tuèrent celui-là, ils en lapidèrent un troisième.
The tenants took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.
36 Le maître alors leur en envoya d'autres, plus nombreux que les premiers; les vignerons les traitèrent de même.
Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them the same way.
37 Enfin, il leur envoya son fils, disant: «Ils respecteront mon fils.»
But afterward he sent to them his son, saying, 'They will respect my son.'
38 Mais quand ils virent le fils, ils se dirent à part eux: «Celui-là, c'est l'héritier; allons! tuons-le et nous aurons son héritage!»
But the tenants, when they saw the son, said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and have his inheritance.'
39 S'étant donc emparés de lui, ils le jetèrent hors de la vigne et le tuèrent.
So they took him, and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
40 Eh bien, lorsque le maître de la vigne arrivera, que fera-t-il à ces vignerons?»
When therefore the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?"
41 On lui répondit: « Il fera périr misérablement ces misérables et il louera la vigne à d'autres vignerons qui lui en rendront les fruits à la saison.»
They told him, "He will utterly destroy those evil men, and will lease out the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him the fruit in its season."
42 Jésus leur dit: «Est-ce que vous n'avez jamais lu dans les Écritures: La pierre qu'ont rejetée ceux qui bâtissaient, Celle-là même est devenue la tête de l'angle; C'est l'ouvrage du Seigneur, Ouvrage admirable à nos yeux.»
Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same was made the head of the corner. This was from the Lord. It is marvelous in our eyes?'
43 «Voilà pourquoi je vous dis que le Royaume de Dieu vous sera enlevé et qu’il sera donné à un peuple qui en produira les fruits.
"Therefore I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and will be given to a nation bringing forth its fruit.
44 Celui qui tombera sur cette pierre s'y brisera et celui sur qui elle tombera, elle le mettra en poussière.»
He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it will fall, it will crush him."
45 En entendant ces paraboles, les chefs des prêtres et les Pharisiens comprirent que c'était d'eux qu'il parlait.
When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke about them.
46 Ils cherchaient bien à l'arrêter, mais ils redoutaient la multitude, parce qu'elle tenait Jésus pour prophète.
When they sought to seize him, they feared the crowds, because they considered him to be a prophet.
