Luc 1
1 Cher Théophile, puisque plusieurs autres ont essayé de rédiger un récit des faits accomplis parmi nous,
Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to arrange in order a narration about the deeds that have been brought to fullness among us,
2 tels que nous les ont transmis ceux qui en ont été, dès l’origine, témoins oculaires et qui sont devenus ministres de la Parole,
just as they delivered them to us, who became from the beginning eyewitnesses and servants of the word,
3 j’ai cru devoir, moi aussi, après m’être soigneusement informé de tout, depuis le commencement, t’en écrire une narration suivie,
it occurred to me also, having followed closely from the beginning all things accurately, to write to thee in order, eminent Theophilus,
4 pour que tu reconnaisses la solidité des enseignements que tu as reçus.
so that thou might know the certainty of the declarations about which thou were instructed.
5 Aux jours d'Hérode, roi de Judée, vivait un prêtre nommé Zaccharie. Il était de la classe d'Abia et sa femme était d'entre les filles d'Aaron. Son nom était Élisabeth.
It came to pass in the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a certain priest, named Zacharias, from the division of Abijah, and his wife was from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
6 Tous deux étaient justes devant Dieu, marchant irréprochables dans tous les commandements et toutes les ordonnances du Seigneur.
And they were both righteous before God, going in all the commandments and righteous things of the Lord blameless.
7 Ils n'avaient point d'enfants; parce qu'Élisabeth était stérile; et tous deux étaient avancés en âge.
And there was no child to them because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in their days.
8 Or, le tour de sa classe étant venu de remplir devant Dieu les fonctions sacerdotales,
But it came to pass during his service as a priest in the course of his division in the presence of God,
9 il lui échut par le sort (qui était le mode usité entre les prêtres) d'entrer dans le sanctuaire du Seigneur pour y offrir l'encens.
that, according to the custom of the priesthood, he was chosen by lot to burn incense after entering into the temple of the Lord.
10 Pendant cette heure de l'encens, la foule du peuple restait au dehors et priait.
And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense.
11 Or, à la droite de l'autel de l'encens, apparut à Zaccharie un ange du Seigneur, debout devant lui.
And an agent of the Lord became visible to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 A sa vue Zaccharie fut troublé, et la crainte le saisit.
And Zacharias having seen, was shaken, and fear fell upon him.
13 «Ne crains point, Zaccharie, lui dit l'ange; car ta prière a été exaucée et ta femme Élisabeth t'enfantera un fils; tu lui donneras le nom de Jean.
But the agent said to him, Fear not, Zacharias, because thy plea was heard, and thy wife Elizabeth will bear a son for thee. And thou shall call his name John.
14 Il sera ta joie et ton allégresse, et beaucoup se réjouiront de sa naissance. Devant le Seigneur,
And there will be joy and exultation for thee, and many will rejoice at his birth.
15 en effet, il sera grand; il ne devra jamais boire ni vin, ni cervoise; et, tout rempli de l'Esprit saint dès les entrailles de sa mère,
For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he should, no, not drink wine and strong drink. And he will be filled of the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's belly.
16 il ramènera au Seigneur leur Dieu, de nombreux enfants d'Israël.
And he will turn back many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God.
17 Lui-même, dans l'esprit et la vertu d'Élie, se mettra en marche devant le Seigneur, afin de faire revivre dans les enfants le coeur même des aïeux, de ramener les rebelles à la sagesse des justes, et de préparer au Seigneur un peuple bien disposé.» —
And he will go ahead, in front of him, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn back the hearts of fathers toward children, and the disobedient in a mentality of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.
18 «A quoi reconnaîtrai-je cela, dit à l'ange Zaccharie, car je suis moi-même un vieillard, et ma femme est avancée en âge.»
And Zacharias said to the agent, How will I know this? For I am aged, and my wife is advanced in her days.
19 L'ange lui répondit par ces paroles: «Je suis, Gabriel qui me tiens devant Dieu. Et j'ai été envoyé pour te parler et t'annoncer cette Bonne Nouvelle.
And having answered, the agent said to him, I am Gabriel who stand in the presence of God. And I was sent to speak to thee, and to announce these good news to thee.
20 Et à cause de ton manque de foi en mes paroles, qui s'accompliront en leur temps, voilà que tu seras muet et ne pourras parler jusqu'au jour où ces choses arriveront.»
And behold, thou will be mute, and not able to speak until that day these things will come to pass, because thou did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.
21 Le peuple cependant attendait Zaccharie, et s'étonnait de le voir s'attarder dans le sanctuaire.
And the people were waiting for Zacharias, and they wondered during his delay in the temple.
22 Lorsqu'il sortit, il lui fut impossible de leur parler; on comprit qu'il avait eu une vision dans le sanctuaire. Lui-même le leur faisait entendre par signes. Zaccharie resta sourd-muet.
And when he came out, he could not speak to them, and they recognized that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he was beckoning to them, and remained speechless.
23 Quand la période de ses fonctions fut terminée, il retourna en sa maison;
And it came to pass, when the days of his service were fulfilled, he departed to his house.
24 ce fut alors que sa femme Élisabeth devint enceinte. Pendant cinq mois elle vécut dans le secret de sa demeure.
And after these days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and she concealed herself five months, saying,
25 «Voilà, disait-elle, ce qu'a fait pour moi le Seigneur en ces jours où il m'a regardée pour mettre fin à mon opprobre parmi les hommes.»
Thus the Lord has done to me during the days in which he looked, to take away my shame among men.
26 Le sixième mois, Dieu envoya l'ange Gabriel dans une ville de Galilée, appelée Nazareth,
Now in the sixth month the agent Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 vers une vierge, fiancée à un homme de la famille de David, nommé Joseph. Le nom de la vierge était Marie.
to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary.
28 L'ange, étant entré où elle était, lui dit: «Salut! une grâce, t'a été faite; le Seigneur est avec toi!»
And the agent having come in near her, he said, Hail, thou who are highly favored. The Lord is with thee, thou who are blessed among women.
29 A ces paroles, Marie fut toute troublée; et elle se demandait ce que pouvait être une semblable salutation.
But having seen, she was perplexed at his saying, and was pondering what kind of greeting this might be.
30 «Ne crains point, Marie, reprit l'ange, car tu as trouvé grâce près de Dieu.
And the agent said to her, Fear not, Mary, for thou have found favor with God.
31 Sache que tu vas concevoir en ton sein et enfanter un fils auquel tu donneras le nom de Jésus.
And behold, thou will conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son. And thou shall call his name JESUS.
32 Il sera grand; on l'appellera: Fils du Très-Haut; à lui le Seigneur Dieu donnera le trône de David son père;
This man will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David.
And he will reign over the house of Jacob into the ages. And of his kingdom there will be no end. (aiōn g165)
34 Alors Marie dit à l'ange: «Comment cela se fera-t-il, puisque je ne connais point, d’homme?»
And Mary said to the agent, How will this be, since I know not a man?
35 Et l'ange lui répondit par ces paroles: «L'Esprit saint viendra sur toi, et une puissance du Très-Haut t'enveloppera de son ombre. C'est pourquoi l'Être saint qui doit naître sera appelé Fils de Dieu!
And having answered, the agent said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Most High will overshadow thee. Therefore also the holy thing that is begotten will be called the Son of God.
36 Sache également qu'en sa vieillesse, ta parente Élisabeth, elle aussi, a conçu un fils, et que celle que l'on appelait stérile en est déjà à son sixième mois.
And behold, Elizabeth thy kinswoman, she also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.
37 Rien n'est impossible à Dieu.»
For no word from God will be impossible.
38 Alors Marie dit: «Voici la servante du Seigneur. Qu'il me soit fait suivant ta parole.» Et l'ange la quitta.
And Mary said, Behold the maid-servant of the Lord. May it happen to me according to thy word. And the agent departed from her.
39 En ces jours-là, Marie se hâta de partir, se dirigeant vers le pays des montagnes. Elle alla dans une ville de Juda.
And having risen in these days, Mary went with haste into the hill country, into a city of Judah,
40 En entrant dans la maison de Zaccharie elle salua Élisabeth.
and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.
41 Et dès qu'Élisabeth eut entendu la salutation de Marie, l'enfant qu'elle portait tressaillit, et elle-même fut remplie d'Esprit saint.
And it came to pass, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her belly. And Elizabeth was filled of the Holy Spirit,
42 «Tu es bénie entre les femmes, s'écria-t-elle en élevant la voix, et le fruit de tes entrailles est béni!
and she exclaimed in a great voice, and said, Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy belly.
43 D'où me vient que la mère de mon Seigneur vienne me visiter?
And why is this to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?
44 Aussitôt que ta voix, quand tu m'as saluée, a frappé mon oreille, l'enfant a tressailli de joie dans mon sein.
For lo, when the voice of thy greeting happened in my ears, the babe leaped with joy in my belly.
45 Bienheureuse celle qui a cru à l'accomplissement de ce qui lui a été dit de la part du Seigneur!»
And blessed is she who believed, because there will be a fulfillment of the things that were spoken to her from the Lord.
46 Et Marie dit: «Mon âme magnifie le Seigneur,
And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 Et mon esprit est transporté de joie en Dieu mon Sauveur,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 Parce qu'il a abaissé son regard sur l'humilité de sa servante. Voilà que désormais toutes les générations m'appelleront la bienheureuse,
because he has looked upon the lowliness of his bondmaid. For behold, from henceforth all generations will regard me blessed,
49 Parce que le Tout-Puissant m'a fait de grandes choses! Son nom est saint,
because the Mighty has done great things to me. And his name is holy.
50 Sa miséricorde se répand de génération en génération Sur ceux qui le craignent.
And his mercy is for generations of generations to those who fear him.
51 Il a déployé la force de son bras, Il a dissipé les pensées des coeurs des superbes,
He did a mighty work by his arm. He scattered the proud in the mentality of their heart.
52 Il a jeté bas de leurs trônes les puissants, Et il a exalté les humbles;
He brought down potentates from thrones, and raised up lowly men.
53 Il a comblé de biens les affamés, Et il a renvoyé les riches à vide;
He filled those who are hungry with good things, and those who are rich he sent away empty.
54 Il a secouru Israël son serviteur, Il s'est souvenu de sa miséricorde,
He helped his boy Israel to be reminded of mercy,
just as he spoke to our fathers: to Abraham and his seed into the age. (aiōn g165)
56 Marie séjourna environ trois mois avec Élisabeth, et retourna ensuite en sa maison.
And Mary dwelt with her about three months, and returned to her house.
57 Parvenue au terme de sa grossesse, Élisabeth enfanta un fils.
Now the time for Elizabeth was fulfilled for her to give birth, and she brought forth a son.
58 Ayant appris que le Seigneur faisait ainsi éclater par elle sa miséricorde, ses voisins et ses parents partagèrent sa joie.
And her neighbors and her kinfolk heard that the Lord magnified his mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her.
59 Le huitième jour, ils vinrent pour la circoncision de l'enfant. Ils lui donnaient le nom de Zaccharie, celui de son père,
And it came to pass on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child, and they were calling it by the name of his father Zacharias.
60 quand sa mère prit la parole: «Non, dit-elle, il se nommera Jean.» —
And his mother having answered, said, No, but he will be called John.
61 «Mais, lui dirent les autres, personne dans ta famille ne porte ce nom.»
And they said to her, There is no man among thy relatives who is called by this name.
62 Et l'on demanda au père, par signes, comment il voulait le nommer.
And they made signs to his father, whatever he wanted to call him.
63 Alors, se faisant apporter des tablettes, Zaccharie écrivit ceci: «Jean est son nom.» Tout le monde fut surpris.
And having asked for a writing tablet, he wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all marveled.
64 Aussitôt la banche de Zaccharie s'ouvrit, sa langue se délia et il se mit à parler et à bénir Dieu.
And immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue, and he spoke, praising God.
65 Chacun dans le voisinage fut saisi de crainte et, dans la région des montagnes de Judée, il ne fut bruit que de toutes ces choses.
And fear developed in all who dwell around them. And all these sayings were talked about in the entire hill country of Judea.
66 Chacun en les apprenant les recueillait dans son coeur et disait: «Que sera donc cet enfant?» En effet, la main du Seigneur était avec lui.
And all who heard stored up in their heart, saying, What then will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 Quant à Zaccharie, son père, il fut rempli d'Esprit saint et il prophétisa en ces termes:
And his father Zacharias was filled of the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
68 «Béni soit le Seigneur, le Dieu d'Israël! Car il a visité son peuple et opéré sa rédemption;
Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, because he came to help, and made ransom for his people.
69 Il nous a suscité un Sauveur puissant, De la maison de David, son serviteur.
And he raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his boy David,
70 (Ainsi qu'il l'avait annoncé par la bouche de ses saints prophètes qui jadis ont vécu.) (aiōn g165)
just as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, (aiōn g165)
71 Il nous délivre de nos ennemis, Et de la main de tous ceux qui nous haïssent;
salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all who hate us,
72 Il montre sa miséricorde envers nos pères; Il se souvient de sa sainte alliance;
to do mercy with our fathers, and his holy covenant to be remembered,
73 Du serment par lui juré à notre père Abraham; Il nous donne enfin à nous,
the oath that he swore to Abraham our father, to give to us,
74 délivrés de la main de nos ennemis, De le servir sans crainte, [de notre vie;
without fear from the hand of our enemies, having been saved to serve him
75 De marcher devant lui dans la sainteté et la justice tous les jours
in piety and righteousness before him all the days of our life.
76 Et toi, enfant, tu seras appelé Prophète du Très-Haut; Car tu iras devant le Seigneur; Tu marcheras devant lui pour lui préparer les voies;
And thou, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High. For thou will go ahead, before the face of the Lord, to prepare his ways,
77 Tu donneras à son peuple la science du salut, Tu lui diras que ses péchés lui sont remis;
to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the remission of their sins,
78 Que notre Dieu a des entrailles de miséricorde, Qu'il nous a regardés du haut des cieux, Que le soleil d'Orient se lève;
because of the bowels of mercy of our God, by which the dayspring from on high came to help us,
79 Qu'il illuminera ceux qui sont assis dans les ténèbres et l'ombre de la mort; Qu'il dirigera nos pas dans un chemin de paix.»
to give light to those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into a way of peace.
80 L'enfant grandissait et son esprit se fortifiait, et jusqu'au jour de sa manifestation à Israël, les déserts furent sa demeure.
And the child grew, and became strong in spirit. And he was in the desolate regions until the day of his manifestation to Israel.
