1 Pilate ordonna alors de saisir Jésus et de le flageller.
So Pilate then took Yeshua, and flogged him.
2 Les soldats, ayant tressé une couronne avec des épines, la lui posèrent sur la tête et l'affublèrent d'un manteau couleur pourpre;
The soldiers twisted thorns into a crown, and put it on his head, and dressed him in a purple garment.
3 puis ils s'avançaient vers lui et disaient: «Salut! le Roi des Juifs!» Et il lui donnaient des coups de bâton.
And they kept coming up to him and saying, "Greetings, King of the Jews." and they struck him with their hands.
4 Encore une fois, Pilate revint dehors. «Je vais vous l'amener, leur dit-il, pour que vous sachiez que je ne trouve aucun motif de le condamner.»
Then Pilate went out again, and said to them, "Look, I am bringing him out to you, that you may know that I find no basis for a charge against him."
5 Et Jésus parut dehors, portant la couronne d'épines et le manteau couleur pourpre. «Voilà l'homme», leur dit Pilate.
Then Yeshua came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment. And he said to them, "Look, here is the man."
6 Dès qu'ils le virent, les chefs des prêtres et leurs gens se mirent à crier: «Crucifie-le! crucifie-le!» — «Prenez-le vous-mêmes, leur dit Pilate, et crucifiez-le! Quant à moi je ne trouve en lui nulle matière à condamnation.» —
When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him, they shouted, saying, "Crucify. Crucify." Pilate said to them, "Take him yourselves, and crucify him, for I find no basis for a charge against him."
7 «Nous avons une Loi, répliquèrent les Juifs, et de par cette Loi, il faut qu'il meure pour s'être fait Fils de Dieu.»
The Jewish leaders answered him, "We have a law, and by that law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God."
8 Pilate, entendant ces paroles, fut de plus en plus effrayé,
When therefore Pilate heard this saying, he was more afraid.
9 Rentrant encore une fois dans le prétoire, il dit à Jésus: «D'où es-tu?» Mais Jésus ne lui fit point de réponse.
He entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Yeshua, "Where are you from?" But Yeshua gave him no answer.
10 «Tu ne me parles pas? reprit Pilate, ignores-tu que j'ai le pouvoir de te délivrer et le pouvoir de te crucifier.» —
Pilate therefore said to him, "Are you not speaking to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you, and have power to crucify you?"
11 «Tu n'aurais contre moi aucun pouvoir, répondit Jésus, s'il ne t'était donné d'en haut. Voilà pourquoi celui qui me livre à toi est coupable d'un plus grand péché.»
Yeshua answered, "You would have no power at all against me, unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered me to you has greater sin."
12 Là-dessus, Pilate cherchait à le délivrer; mais les Juifs lui criaient ces paroles: «Si tu délivres cet homme, tu n'es pas partisan de César, car quiconque se fait Roi se pose en adversaire de César.»
At this, Pilate was seeking to release him, but the Jewish leaders shouted, saying, "If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend. Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar."
13 Pilate, entendant un tel langage, fit venir Jésus au dehors, et prit siège au tribunal, à l'endroit appelé «Pavé en mosaïque» (en hébreu Gabbatha).
When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Yeshua out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called "The Pavement," but in Hebrew, "Gabbatha."
14 C'était le jour de la Préparation de la Pâque, et vers la sixième heure. Pilate dit aux Juifs: «Voilà votre Roi.»
Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, at about noon. He said to the Jewish leaders, "Look, here is your King."
15 Ceux-ci se mirent à crier: «A mort! à mort! crucifie-le!» — «Votre Roi! leur dit Pilate, je le crucifierais!» — «Nous n'avons d'autre Roi que César», répondirent les chefs des prêtres.
They shouted, "Away with him. Away with him. Crucify him." Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."
16 Ce fut alors que Pilate le leur abandonna pour être crucifié. Ils s'emparèrent de Jésus
So then he delivered him to them to be crucified. So they took Yeshua.
17 et lui, portant lui-même la croix, vint au lieu qu'on appelle Crâne (en hébreu Golgotha).
And he went out, carrying the cross himself, to the place called "The Place of a Skull," which is called in Hebrew, "Gagulta,"
18 C'est là qu'ils le crucifièrent et avec lui deux autres, un de chaque côté, et au milieu, Jésus.
where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Yeshua in the middle.
19 Pilate rédigea aussi une inscription et la fit placer sur la croix; il y était écrit: JESUS DE NAZARETH, LE ROI DES JUIFS.
Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. There was written, "YESHUA THE NATSRAYA, THE KING OF THE JEWS."
20 Cette inscription, beaucoup de Juifs la lurent parce que le lieu où Jésus fut crucifié était près de la ville. Elle était rédigée en hébreu, en latin et en grec.
Therefore many Jews read this title, for the place where Yeshua was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek.
21 Alors les chefs des prêtres Juifs dirent à Pilate: «N'inscris pas: «LE ROI DES JUIFS»; mais: «CET HOMME A DIT: «JE SUIS LE ROI DES JUIFS.» —
The chief priests of the Jewish people therefore said to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but, 'he said, I am King of the Jews.'"
22 «Ce que j'ai écrit, je l'ai écrit», répondit Pilate.
Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."
23 Après avoir mis Jésus en croix, les soldats s'emparèrent de ses vêtements dont ils firent quatre parts; une pour chaque soldat. Restait la tonique, une tunique sans couture, tout entière d'un seul tissu depuis le haut.
Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Yeshua, took his clothes and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
24 «Ne la déchirons pas, se dirent-ils, mais tirons au sort à qui l'aura». (C'était afin que fût accomplie l'Écriture: «Ils ont partagé mes vêtements entre eux Et sur ma robe ils ont jeté le sort.») Donc, les soldats firent ainsi.
Then they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to decide whose it will be," that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, "They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast a lot." Therefore the soldiers did these things.
25 Près de la croix de Jésus se tenaient sa mère, la soeur de sa mère, Marie, femme de Clopas, et Marie Magdeleine.
But there were standing by the cross of Yeshua his mother, and his mother's sister, Maryam the wife of Qalyopa, and Maryam Magdelaitha.
26 Jésus, voyant sa mère et, près d'elle, le disciple qu'il aimait, dit à sa mère: «Femme, voilà ton fils.»
Therefore when Yeshua saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, "Woman, look, your son."
27 Puis il dit au disciple: «Voilà ta mère.» A partir de ce moment le disciple la prit chez lui.
Then he said to the disciple, "Look, your mother." From that hour, the disciple took her to his own home.
28 Après cela, Jésus sachant que désormais tout était achevé d'accomplir, dit, afin de parfaire cet accomplissement de l'Écriture: «J'ai soif.»
After this, Yeshua, knowing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty."
29 Il y avait là un vase plein de vinaigre. On y trempa une éponge qui fut fixée à une tige d'hysope, et on l'approcha de sa bouche.
A vessel full of sour wine was set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and held it at his mouth.
30 Quand il eut pris le vinaigre, il dit: «Tout est accompli» et, ayant baissé la tète, il rendit l'esprit.
When Yeshua therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished." He bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.
31 C'était le jour de la Préparation et pour que les corps ne restassent pas en croix pendant le sabbat, — un sabbat qui devait être très solennel, — les Juifs demandèrent à Pilate de faire briser les jambes des suppliciés et de les faire enlever.
Therefore the Jewish leaders, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32 Les soldats vinrent donc et brisèrent les jambes du premier crucifié, puis du second.
Therefore the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was crucified with him;
33 Arrivant à Jésus, ils s'aperçurent qu'il était déjà mort, et alors ils ne lui brisèrent pas les jambes.
but when they came to Yeshua, and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
34 Seulement un des soldats lui perça le côté d'un coup de lance, et il en sortit immédiatement du sang et de l'eau.
However one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
35 Celui qui l'a vu l'a attesté et son attestation est véridique. Lui, il sait qu'il dit vrai, afin que, vous aussi, vous croyiez.
He who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, that you may believe.
36 (Car cela arriva afin que fût accomplie l'Écriture: Aucun de ses os ne sera brisé»
For these things happened, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "A bone of him will not be broken."
37 et un autre passage dit encore: «Ils regarderont celui qu'ils ont percé.»)
Again another Scripture says, "They will look on him whom they pierced."
38 Après cela, Joseph (celui qui est d'Arimathée), — il était disciple de Jésus, mais en secret par crainte des Juifs, — demanda à Pilate la permission d'enlever le corps de Jésus. Pilate la lui donna. Il vint donc enlever le corps.
After these things, Yauseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Yeshua, but secretly for fear of the Jewish leaders, asked of Pilate that he might take away the body of Yeshua. Pilate gave him permission. He came therefore and took away his body.
39 Avec lui se trouvait aussi Nicodème (celui qui était allé trouver Jésus pendant la nuit au commencement); il apportait une composition de myrrhe et d'aloès, une centaine de livres.
Niqadimus, who at first came to Yeshua by night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.
40 Ils prirent donc le corps de Jésus et l'enveloppèrent dans des bandes de linge avec les parfums, suivant le mode d'ensevelissement usité chez les Juifs.
So they took the body of Yeshua, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, according to Jewish burial practice.
41 Il y avait dans le lieu où il avait été crucifié un jardin et, dans ce jardin, un sépulcre neuf, où personne n'avait encore été placé.
Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden. In the garden was a new tomb in which no one had ever yet been placed.
42 Ce fut donc là, à cause de la Préparation des Juifs, et parce que ce sépulcre était tout proche, qu'ils déposèrent Jésus.
Then because of the Jewish Preparation Day (for the tomb was nearby) they put Yeshua there.
