Actes 28
1 Une fois hors de danger, nous apprîmes que cette île s'appelait Malte.
When we had escaped, then we learned that the island was called Malta.
2 Les indigènes nous accueillirent avec une humanité peu ordinaire; ils allumèrent un grand feu et nous y réunirent tous, car la pluie tombait, et il faisait froid.
The natives showed us uncommon kindness; for they kindled a fire, and received us all, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3 Comme Paul prenait une poignée de bois sec et la jetait dans le brasier, la chaleur en fit sortir une vipère qui s'attacha à sa main.
But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and placed them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
4 Quand les indigènes virent l'animal qui pendait à sa main, ils se dirent entre eux: «Certainement c'est un meurtrier que cet homme; à peine échappe-t-il à la mer et la Justice divine ne veut pas lui laisser la vie!»
When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said one to another, "No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed to live."
5 Mais lui secoua l'animal dans le feu et ne ressentit aucun mal.
However he shook off the creature into the fire, and was not harmed.
6 Eux s'attendaient à le voir enfler ou tomber mort tout à coup. Pendant longtemps ils attendirent, et voyant qu'il ne lui arrivait rien de fâcheux, ils changèrent d'avis et déclarèrent qu'il était un dieu.
But they expected that he would have swollen or fallen down dead suddenly, but when they watched for a long time and saw nothing bad happen to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
7 Il y avait, près de cet endroit-là, des terres appartenant au principal personnage de l'île, un certain Publius; il nous recueillit et nous traita pendant trois jours avec beaucoup d'hospitalité.
Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief official of the island, named Publius, who received us, and courteously entertained us for three days.
8 Or le père de ce Publius était retenu au lit par des accès de fièvre et la dysenterie. Paul entra chez lui, fit la prière, lui imposa les mains et le guérit.
It happened that the father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery. Paul entered in to him, prayed, and laying his hands on him, healed him.
9 Là-dessus, tous les autres habitants malades de l'île vinrent aussi et furent guéris.
Then when this was done, the rest also who had diseases in the island came, and were cured.
10 Aussi nous rendirent-ils toutes sortes d'honneur et, à notre départ, ils nous fournirent ce dont nous avions besoin.
They also honored us with many honors, and when we sailed, they put on board the things that we needed.
11 Trois mois plus tard, nous prenions passage sur un navire alexandrin, à l'enseigne des Dioscures, qui avait hiverné dans le port de l'île.
After three months, we set sail in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island, whose sign was "The Twin Brothers."
12 Puis nous gagnions Syracuse et nous y passions trois jours;
Touching at Syracuse, we stayed there three days.
13 de là, longeant toujours la côte, nous touchions à Reggio. Le lendemain le vent du sud se leva, et, en deux jours, nous étions à Pouzzoles.
From there we cast off and arrived at Rhegium. After one day, a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli,
14 Nous y trouvâmes des frères qui nous engagèrent à rester une semaine avec eux. Ensuite nous nous mîmes en route pour Rome.
where we found brothers, and were entreated to stay with them for seven days. So we came to Rome.
15 Les frères de cette ville, qui avaient eu de nos nouvelles, vinrent à notre rencontre jusqu'à «Forum d'Appius» et jusqu'à «Les Trois Tavernes». A leur vue, Paul rendit grâces à Dieu et prit courage.
From there the brothers, when they heard of us, came to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God, and took courage.
16 Quand nous fûmes arrivés à Rome, Paul eut la permission de rester seul avec le soldat qui le gardait.
When we entered into Rome, Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier who guarded him.
17 Trois jours après, cependant, il convoqua les Juifs de Rome les plus considérés, et quand ils furent réunis, il leur dit: «Mes frères, je n'avais rien fait de contraire à notre peuple et aux institutions de nos pères, lorsqu'on m'a arrêté à Jérusalem et livré entre les mains des Romains.
It happened that after three days he called together those who were the Jewish leaders. When they had come together, he said to them, "I, brothers, though I had done nothing against the people, or the customs of our fathers, still was delivered prisoner from Urishlim into the hands of the Romans,
18 Ceux-ci, après avoir examiné ma cause, voulaient me relâcher, parce que rien ne pouvait motiver ma condamnation à mort.
who, when they had examined me, desired to set me free, because there was no cause of death in me.
19 Mais les Juifs, s'y étant opposés, je me vis forcé d'en appeler à l'Empereur, sans cependant vouloir me plaindre de mes compatriotes.
But when the Jews spoke against it, I was forced to appeal to Caesar, not that I had anything about which to accuse my nation.
20 Voilà pourquoi je vous ai demandés; je voulais vous voir et vous parler, car c'est à cause de l'espérance d'Israël que je porte cette chaîne.»
For this cause therefore I asked to see you and to speak with you. For because of the hope of Israyel I am bound with this chain."
21 Ils lui répondirent: «Nous n'avons pas reçu de lettres de Judée à ton sujet, et aucun de nos frères n'est venu nous faire de rapport ni nous dire du mal de toi.
They said to him, "We neither received letters from Yehuda concerning you, nor did any of the brothers come here and report or speak any evil of you.
22 Cependant nous voudrions bien apprendre de toi ce que tu penses; car, à notre connaissance, ce parti-là rencontre partout de l'opposition.»
But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against."
23 Alors ils prirent jour ensemble et un plus grand nombre encore vint le trouver chez lui. Du matin au soir il leur exposait ce que c'était que le Royaume de Dieu et les suppliait en leur démontrant par la «Loi et les Prophètes» tout ce qui concerne Jésus.
When they had appointed him a day, many people came to him at his lodging. He explained to them, testifying about the Kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Yeshua, both from the Law of Mushe and from the Prophets, from morning until evening.
24 Les uns se laissèrent convaincre par ses paroles, les autres restèrent incrédules.
Some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.
25 Comme ils se séparaient sans avoir pu se mettre d'accord, Paul leur dit ce simple mot: «L'Esprit saint a admirablement parlé quand il a dit à vos pères par le prophète Ésaïe:
When they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had spoken one word, "The Rukha d'Qudsha spoke rightly through Eshaya, the prophet, to your fathers,
26 «Va vers ce peuple et dis-lui: Vos oreilles entendront et vous ne comprendrez pas; Vos yeux regarderont et vous ne verrez pas,
saying, 'Go to this people, and say, in hearing, you will hear, but will in no way understand. In seeing, you will see, but will in no way perceive.
27 Car le coeur de ce peuple s'est endurci; Ils ont fait la sourde oreille; ils ont fermé les yeux, Pour que leurs yeux ne voient pas, que leurs oreilles n'entendent pas, Que leurs coeurs ne comprennent pas Pour se convertir et que je puisse les guérir.»
For this people's heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, and I would heal them.'
28 «Sachez donc que ce salut de Dieu a été envoyé aux païens; ceux-là l'écouteront!»
"Be it known therefore to you, that the salvation of God is sent to the nations. They will also listen."
29 (Lorsqu'il eut dit cela, les Juifs s'en allèrent, discutant vivement entre eux.)
And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.
30 Paul demeura deux ans entiers dans un appartement qu'il avait loué à ses frais;
And Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who were coming to him,
31 il pouvait y recevoir tous ceux qui venaient le voir; il prêchait le Royaume de Dieu; il enseignait ce qui concerne le Seigneur Jésus-Christ sans difficultés et en toute liberté.
proclaiming the Kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Yeshua Meshikha with all boldness, without hindrance.
