1 Au maître chantre. En schoschanim-edouth. Cantique d'Asaph. Prête l'oreille, berger d'Israël, toi qui conduis Joseph, comme un troupeau; toi dont les Chérubins portent le trône, apparais! Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.
2 Devant Ephraïm et Benjamin et Manassé donne essor à ta puissance, et viens à notre aide!
Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come and save us.
3 O Dieu, rétablis-nous, et fais luire ta face, et nous serons sauvés!
Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
4 Éternel, Dieu des armées, jusques à quand t'irriteras-tu, quand ton peuple prie?
O Yhwh God of Armies, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?
5 Tu lui fais manger un pain trempé de larmes, et boire avec larmes une portion mesurée.
Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.
6 Tu fais de nous une proie que nos voisins se disputent, et nos ennemis nous tournent en dérision.
Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.
7 Dieu des armées, rétablis-nous, et fais luire ta face, et nous serons sauvés!
Turn us again, O God of Armies, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
8 De l'Egypte tu retiras une vigne, tu expulsas les nations, et tu la plantas;
Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
9 tu déblayas le sol devant elle, et elle poussa des racines, et remplit le pays;
Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.
10 les montagnes furent couvertes de son ombre, et ses pampres égalèrent les cèdres de Dieu;
The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.
11 elle étendit ses rameaux jusques à la mer, et ses jets jusques au Fleuve.
She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.
12 Pourquoi as-tu abattu ses murailles, pour que tous les passants la vendangent?
Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?
13 De la forêt le sanglier vient la ravager, et les bêtes des champs, y brouter.
The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.
14 Ah! reviens, Dieu des armées, regarde des Cieux et vois, et visite cette vigne!
Return, we beseech thee, O God of Armies: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;
15 Protège ce que ta main a planté, et le fils que tu t'es choisi!
And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.
16 Elle est brûlée par le feu, elle est coupée: ils périssent à ton air menaçant.
It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
17 Protège de ta main l'homme, ouvrage de ta droite, le fils de l'homme que tu t'es choisi.
Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.
18 Alors nous ne te quitterons pas; rends-nous la vie, et nous invoquerons ton nom.
So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.
19 Éternel, Dieu des armées, rétablis-nous, fais luire ta face, et nous serons sauvés!
Turn us again, O Yhwh God of Armies, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
