Psaumes 107
1 Louez l'Éternel, car Il est bon, car sa miséricorde est éternelle!
O give praise to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.
2 Qu'ainsi parlent les rachetés de l'Éternel, qu'il a rachetés des mains de l'ennemi,
Let those whose cause the Lord has taken up say so, his people whom he has taken out of the hands of their haters;
3 et recueillis de tout pays, du Levant et du Couchant, du Septentrion et de la mer.
Making them come together out of all the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.
4 Ils furent errants au désert, dans une voie solitaire, et ils ne trouvaient pas une ville où habiter;
They were wandering in the waste places; they saw no way to a resting-place.
5 ils éprouvaient la faim et la soif; leur âme en eux était défaillante.
Their souls became feeble for need of food and drink.
6 Et ils crièrent à l'Éternel dans leur détresse, et Il les délivra de leurs perplexités,
Then they sent up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gave them salvation out of all their troubles;
7 et leur fit prendre la voie directe pour arriver à une ville où pouvoir habiter.
Guiding them in the right way, so that they might come into the town of their resting-place.
8 Qu'ils rendent grâces à l'Éternel de sa miséricorde, et disent ses merveilles aux enfants des hommes!
Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men!
9 Car Il a satisfait l'âme altérée, et comblé de biens l'âme affamée.
He gives its desire to the unresting soul, so that it is full of good things.
10 Ceux qui habitaient les ténèbres et l'ombre de la mort, prisonniers de la misère et des fers…
Those who were in the dark, in the black night, in chains of sorrow and iron;
11 Car ils résistèrent aux paroles de Dieu, et méprisèrent les décrets du Très-haut.
Because they went against the words of God, and gave no thought to the laws of the Most High:
12 Aussi courba-t-Il leur cœur sous la peine; ils succombèrent, et ne furent point assistés.
So that he made their hearts weighted down with grief; they were falling, and had no helper.
13 Mais ils crièrent à l'Éternel dans leur détresse, et Il les délivra de leurs perplexités;
Then they sent up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gave them salvation out of all their troubles.
14 Il les tira des ténèbres et de l'ombre de la mort, et rompit leurs fers.
He took them out of the dark and the black night, and all their chains were broken.
15 Qu'ils rendent grâces à l'Éternel de sa miséricorde, et disent ses merveilles aux enfants des hommes!
Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men!
16 Car Il a brisé les portes d'airain, et mis en pièces les verrous de fer.
The doors of brass are broken by his arm, and the bands of iron are cut in two.
17 Les insensés qui suivaient la voie de la révolte, et à cause de leurs crimes se virent humiliés…
Foolish men, because of their sins, and because of their wrongdoing, are troubled;
18 Toute nourriture excitait leur dégoût, et ils arrivaient aux portes de la mort.
They are disgusted by all food, and they come near to the doors of death.
19 Mais ils crièrent à l'Éternel dans leur détresse, et Il les délivra de leurs perplexités;
Then they send up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gives them salvation out of all their troubles.
20 Il émit sa parole, et les guérit, et les retira de leurs tombeaux.
He sent his word and made them well, and kept them safe from the underworld.
21 Qu'ils rendent grâces à l'Éternel de sa miséricorde, et disent ses merveilles aux enfants des hommes!
Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men!
22 Qu'ils Lui offrent les sacrifices de la reconnaissance, et publient ses hauts faits avec des cris de joie!
Let them make offerings of praise, giving news of his works with cries of joy.
23 Ceux qui se mirent en mer sur des navires, et firent la manœuvre sur les grandes eaux,
Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in the great waters;
24 furent témoins des œuvres de Dieu, et des merveilles qu'il opère dans les flots.
They see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
25 Il dit, et excita un vent de tempête, qui souleva les vagues de la mer;
For at his word comes up the storm-wind, lifting high the waves.
26 elles montèrent vers le ciel, descendirent dans l'abîme, leur âme dans le danger était éperdue;
The sailors go up to heaven, and down into the deep; their souls are wasted because of their trouble.
27 saisis du vertige, ils chancelaient, comme étant ivres, et toute leur sagesse était évanouie.
They are turned here and there, rolling like a man who is full of wine; and all their wisdom comes to nothing.
28 Mais ils crièrent à l'Éternel dans leur détresse, et Il les délivra de leurs perplexités,
Then they send up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gives them salvation out of all their troubles.
29 Il fit cesser la tourmente qui devint silencieuse, et les vagues se turent;
He makes the storm into a calm, so that the waves are at peace.
30 et ils furent joyeux, quand elles se calmèrent, et Il les conduisit au port désiré.
Then they are glad, because the sea is quiet, and he takes them to the harbour of their desire.
31 Qu'ils rendent grâces à l'Éternel de sa miséricorde, et disent ses merveilles aux enfants des hommes!
Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men!
32 Qu'ils L'exaltent dans l'assemblée du peuple, et Le louent dans la séance des anciens!
Let them give glory to him in the meeting of the people, and praise among the chiefs.
33 Il change les fleuves en désert, et les sources des eaux en sol aride,
He makes rivers into waste places, and springs of water into a dry land;
34 la plaine fertile en steppe salée, à cause de la méchanceté de ses habitants.
He makes a fertile country into a salt waste, because of the sins of those who are living there.
35 Il change le désert en une masse d'eaux, et la terre desséchée en sources d'eaux,
He makes a waste land into a place of water, and a dry land into water-springs.
36 et Il y établit ceux qui sont affamés, et là ils fondent des villes, pour les habiter.
And there he gives the poor a resting-place, so that they may make themselves a town;
37 Ils ensemencent des champs, et plantent des vignes qui donnent leurs fruits pour revenu.
And put seed in the fields and make vine-gardens, to give them fruit.
38 Et Il les bénit, et ils deviennent très nombreux, et Il n'amoindrit pas leurs bestiaux.
He gives them his blessing so that they are increased greatly, and their cattle do not become less.
39 Or ils étaient amoindris et accablés par l'oppression, le malheur et les peines;
And when they are made low, and crushed by trouble and sorrow,
40 c'est lui qui verse le mépris sur les princes, et Il les fait errer dans un désert sans chemin;
He puts an end to the pride of kings, and sends them wandering in the waste lands where there is no way.
41 mais Il relève le pauvre de sa misère, et rend les familles égales à des troupeaux.
But he puts the poor man on high from his troubles, and gives him families like a flock.
42 C'est ce que voient les hommes droits, et ils se réjouissent, et tous les méchants ont la bouche fermée.
The upright see it and are glad: the mouth of the sinner is stopped.
43 Que tout homme sage prenne garde à ceci, et soit attentif aux grâces de l'Éternel!
Let the wise give thought to these things, and see the mercies of the Lord.
