Proverbes 8
1 La sagesse n'appelle-t-elle pas, et la prudence ne fait-elle pas entendre sa voix?
You shall proclaim wisdom, that understanding may be obedient to you.
2 Elle se tient au sommet des éminences, sur le chemin, dans les carrefours;
For she is on lofty eminences, and stands in the midst of the ways.
3 à côté des Portes, à l'entrée de la ville, aux avenues des Portes, elle dit à haute voix:
For she sits by the gates of princes, and sings in the entrances, [saying],
4 « C'est vous, ô hommes, que j'appelle, et ma voix s'adresse aux enfants des hommes.
You, O men, I exhort; and utter my voice to the sons of men.
5 Hommes sans raison, apprenez la prudence, et vous, insensés, apprenez la sagesse!
O you simple, understand subtlety, and you that are untaught, imbibe knowledge.
6 Ecoutez! car je dis des choses relevées, et mes lèvres s'ouvrent pour énoncer la droiture:
Listen to me; for I will speak solemn [truths]; and will produce right [sayings] from my lips.
7 car ma bouche exprime la vérité, et mes lèvres abhorrent l'impiété.
For my throat shall meditate truth; and false lips are an abomination before me.
8 La rectitude est dans tous les mots de ma bouche; ils n'ont rien de tortueux, ni de détourné;
All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing in them wrong or perverse.
9 ils sont évidents pour le sage, et justes pour ceux qui ont trouvé la science.
They are all evident to those that understand, and right to those that find knowledge.
10 Prenez mes leçons, et non pas de l'argent, et la science plutôt que l'or de choix;
Receive instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than tried gold.
11 car la sagesse vaut mieux que les perles, et nulle chose de prix n'est son équivalent.
For wisdom is better than precious stones; and no valuable substance is of equal worth with it.
12 Moi, la sagesse, j'habite avec la prudence, et je trouve la science des bonnes mesures.
I wisdom have lived [with] counsel and knowledge, and I have called upon understanding.
13 La crainte de l'Éternel est la haine du mal, de l'orgueil, de la hauteur, et des mauvaises voies; et je hais la bouche trompeuse.
The fear of the Lord hates unrighteousness, and insolence, and pride, and the ways of wicked men; and I hate the perverse ways of bad men.
14 J'ai le conseil et le succès, je suis l'intelligence, je possède la force.
Counsel and safety are mine; prudence is mine, and strength is mine.
15 Par moi les rois règnent, et les princes font de justes lois;
By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
16 par moi les puissants exercent le pouvoir, ainsi que les grands, tous juges de la terre.
By me nobles become great, and monarchs by me rule over the earth.
17 J'aime ceux qui m'aiment, et ceux qui me cherchent, me trouvent.
I love those that love me; and they that seek me shall find [me].
18 La richesse et l'honneur m'accompagnent, l'opulence solide et la bonté;
Wealth and glory belong to me; yes, abundant possessions and righteousness.
19 mes fruits sont meilleurs que l'or, que l'or pur, et ce que je rapporte est plus que de l'argent de choix.
[It is] better to have my fruit than [to have] gold and precious stones; and my produce is better than choice silver.
20 Je marche dans le chemin de la justice, et dans les sentiers de l'équité,
I walk in ways of righteousness, and [am] conversant with the paths of judgment;
21 pour rendre ceux qui m'aiment possesseurs d'un avoir, et remplir leurs greniers.
that I may divide substance to them that love me, and may fill their treasures with good things. If I declare to you the things that daily happen, I will remember [also] to recount the things of old.
22 « L'Éternel me créa, prémices de ses œuvres, avant ses ouvrages, antérieurement.
The Lord made me the beginning of his ways for his works.
23 Dès l'éternité je reçus l'onction, avant le commencement, l'origine de la terre;
He established me before time [was] in the beginning, before he made the earth:
24 quand je naquis, les mers n'étaient pas encore, il n'y avait point de sources abondantes en eau;
even before he made the depths; before the fountains of water came forth:
25 avant que les montagnes fussent plantées, avant les collines j'étais enfantée:
before the mountains were settled, and before all hills, he begets me.
26 Il n'avait encore créé ni la terre, ni les déserts, ni le chef de la poudre de la terre.
The Lord made countries and uninhabited [tracks], and the highest inhabited parts of the world.
27 Quand Il disposait le ciel, j'étais là; quand Il traçait un cercle sur la face de l'abîme,
When he prepared the heaven, I was present with him; and when he prepared his throne upon the winds:
28 quand d'en haut Il condensait les nues, et faisait bouillonner les sources de l'abîme,
and when he strengthened the clouds above; and when he secured the fountains of the earth:
29 quand Il donnait à la mer ses limites, pour que les eaux ne franchissent pas ses bords, quand Il fixait les bases de la terre,
decree. and when he strengthened the foundations of the earth:
30 j'étais à ses côtés, fidèle ouvrière, je faisais ses délices tous les jours, me jouant devant lui continuellement,
I was by him, suiting [myself to him], I was that wherein he took delight; and daily I rejoiced in his presence continually.
31 jouant sur le disque de sa terre, et faisant mes délices des enfants des hommes. »
For he rejoiced when he had completed the world, and rejoiced among the children of men.
32 Maintenant donc, mes fils, écoutez-moi! et heureux ceux qui se tiennent dans mes voies!
Now then, [my] son, hear me: blessed is the man who shall listen to me, and the mortal who shall keep my ways;
33 Recevez la correction, et devenez sages, et ne la repoussez pas!
[Hear wisdom and be wise, and be not strangers to it. ]
34 Heureux l'homme qui m'écoute, veillant à ma porte journellement, et gardant les jambages de mon portail!
watching daily at my doors, waiting at the posts of my entrances.
35 Car, quiconque me trouve, a trouvé la vie, et il obtient la faveur de l'Éternel.
For my outgoings are the outgoings of life, and [in them] is prepared favor from the Lord.
36 Mais celui qui me manque, fait tort à son âme; tous ceux qui me haïssent, aiment la mort.
But they that sin against me act wickedly against their own souls: and they that hate me love death.
