Proverbes 30
1 Paroles d'Agur, fils de Jaqué, prophétie, oracle donné par l'Homme à Ithiel, à Ithiel et à Uchal.
The words of Agur, son of Jakeh, [even] the oracle, —The utterance of the man, for Ithiel, for Ithiel and Ucal.
2 Oui, je suis plus stupide que personne, et je n'ai point l'intelligence d'un humain;
Surely, more brutish, am, I, than any man, nor doth, the understanding of a son of earth, pertain to me;
3 et je n'ai ni appris la sagesse, ni connu la science des saints.
Neither have I learned wisdom, nor, the knowledge of the Holy Ones, can I acquire.
4 Qui monta au ciel, et en redescendit? Qui enserra le vent dans ses mains? Qui enveloppa les eaux dans sa robe? Qui plaça toutes les bornes de la terre? Quel est son nom et le nom de son fils, si tu le sais?
Who hath ascended the heavens and then descended? Who hath gathered the wind into his two hands? Who hath wrapped up the waters in a mantle? Who hath set up all the ends of the earth? What is his name and what the name of his son, when thou knowest?
5 Toute parole de Dieu est pure. Il est un bouclier pour ceux qui se confient en Lui.
Every saying of God is refined, A shield, is, he, to them who seek refuge in him.
6 N'ajoute rien à ce qu'il a dit, de peur qu'il ne te châtie, et que tu ne sois convaincu de mensonge.
Do not add unto his words, lest he convict thee, and thou be found false.
7 Je Te demande deux choses: ne me les refuse pas, avant que je meure!
Two things, have I asked of thee, withhold them not from me, ere yet I die:
8 Eloigne de moi la fausseté et le langage menteur; ne me donne ni pauvreté, ni richesse, nourris-moi du pain qui est pour moi le nécessaire;
Vanity and falsehood, remove far from me, Neither poverty nor riches, give me, Feed me with the food appointed me:
9 de peur que rassasié je ne te renie, et ne dise: « Qui est l'Éternel? » ou qu'appauvri je ne dérobe, et ne m'attaque au nom de mon Dieu!
Lest I be full, and deny, and say—Who is Yahweh? or lest I be impoverished and steal, and do violence to the Name of my God.
10 Ne calomnie pas le serviteur auprès de son maître, de peur qu'il ne te maudisse, et que tu ne sois puni!
Do not slander a servant to his master, lest he revile thee, and thou be found guilty.
11 Il est une race qui maudit son père, et ne bénit point sa mère.
A generation! Its father, it revileth, and, its mother, it doth not bless.
12 Il est une race qui est pure à ses propres yeux, tandis que de sa souillure elle n'est point lavée.
A generation! Pure in its own eyes, yet, from its filth, hath it not been bathed,
13 Il est une race… que ses yeux sont altiers, et ses paupières hautaines!
A generation! How lofty are its eyes, and its eyelashes uplifted.
14 Il est une race dont les dents sont des glaives, et les molaires des couteaux, pour dévorer le malheureux sur la terre, et les indigents, parmi les hommes.
A generation! Swords, are its teeth, and, knives, its incisors, —to devour the humbled out of the earth, and the needy, from among men.
15 L'Aluca a deux filles: Donne! Donne! Trois choses sont insatiables, il en est quatre qui jamais ne disent: « C'est assez! »
The vampire, hath two daughters, Give! Give! Three, there are will not be satisfied, four, have not said, Enough!
16 les Enfers, et la femme stérile, la terre jamais rassasiée d'eau, et le feu qui jamais ne dit: « C'est assez! » (Sheol h7585)
Hades, and barrenness, —A land not satisfied with water, and fire, that saith not, Enough! (Sheol h7585)
17 L'œil qui se moque d'un père, et dédaigne l'obéissance envers une mère, les corbeaux de la vallée l'arracheront, et les petits de l'aigle le mangeront.
The eye that mocketh a father, and despiseth to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young of the eagle shall eat it.
18 Trois choses passent ma portée, il en est quatre que je ne pénètre pas:
Three, things there are, too difficult for me, yea, four, which I do not understand:
19 la trace de l'aigle dans les Cieux, la trace du serpent sur le rocher, la trace du navire au sein de la mer, et la trace de l'homme qui va vers une vierge.
The way of an eagle in the heavens, the way of a serpent on the rock, —the way of a ship in the heart of the sea, and the way of a man with a maid.
20 Telle est la manière de la femme adultère: elle mange, et s'essuie la bouche et dit: « Je n'ai point fait de mal. »
So, is the way of a woman committing adultery, —she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no iniquity!
21 Trois choses font trembler un pays, il en est quatre qu'il ne peut supporter:
Under three things, a land is stirred, yea, under four, she cannot bear up:
22 un esclave devenu roi, un insensé dans l'abondance,
Under a servant, when he reigneth, and a base man, when he is surfeited with food;
23 la femme dédaignée devenue épouse, et la servante qui a chassé sa maîtresse.
Under a hateful woman, when she is married, and a handmaid when she driveth out her mistress.
24 Il y a sur la terre quatre animaux très petits, et pourtant sages et bien avisés:
Four, things there are, the small of the earth, —yet, they, are wiser than the wise:
25 les fourmis, peuple qui n'est point fort, et pourtant en été elles font leurs provisions;
The ants, a people, not strong, —yet prepare they, in summer, their food;
26 les gerboises, peuple qui n'est point vigoureux, et pourtant dans les rochers elles pratiquent leur gîte;
The conies, a people of, no power, yet set they, among the crags, their house;
27 les sauterelles n'ont point de roi, et pourtant elles sortent toutes formées en bataillons;
King, is there none, to, the locusts, —yet go forth in swarms, do they all;
28 le lézard saisit avec ses mains, et se trouve dans les palais des rois.
The lizard, with hands, reneweth its hold, —yet, the same, is in the palaces of the king.
29 Trois ont une belle démarche, et quatre, une belle allure:
Three, things there are which step along well, ye, four, which excel in going:
30 le lion, héros entre les animaux, et qui ne recule devant personne;
The lion, hero among beasts, which turneth aside from the face of no one;
31 [le coursier] ceint aux reins du harnais, ou le bélier et le roi à qui l'on ne peut tenir tête.
The greyhound, or the he-goat, —and a king, having a band of soldiers with him.
32 Si tu as été fou par orgueil, et si tu as pensé à mal…. la main sur la bouche!
If thou hast acted basely by lifting thyself up, —if thou hast plotted evil, [put thy] hand to [thy] mouth!
33 Car la pression du lait produit du beurre, et la pression du nez produit du sang, et la pression de la colère produit la rixe.
Surely, the pressing of milk, bringeth forth curd, and, the pressing of the nose, bringeth forth blood, and, the pressing of wrath, bringeth forth strife.
