Proverbes 27
1 Ne te vante pas du lendemain, car tu ignores ce qu'un jour enfante.
Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2 Qu'un autre te loue, et non ta propre bouche, un étranger, et non tes propres lèvres!
Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3 La pierre est lourde, et le sable pesant; mais l'humeur de l'insensé pèse plus que tous deux.
A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s vexation is heavier than them both.
4 La fureur est cruelle, et la colère impétueuse; mais qui pourra tenir devant la jalousie?
Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before jealousy?
5 Mieux vaut un reproche franc, qu'une affection dissimulée.
Better is open rebuke than love that is hidden.
6 Les coups d'un ami viennent de fidélité; mais un ennemi prodigue les baisers.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend: but the kisses of an enemy are profuse.
7 L'homme rassasié foule le miel aux pieds; mais pour l'affamé tout ce qui est amer, est doux.
The full soul loatheth an honeycomb: but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
8 Tel l'oiseau qui erre loin de son nid, tel est l'homme qui erre loin de ses lieux.
As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
9 L'huile et l'encens réjouissent le cœur, et par un conseil cordial l'ami est doux à l'homme.
Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend [that cometh] of hearty counsel.
10 Ne quitte pas ton ami, ni l'ami de ton père, mais ne va pas chez ton frère le jour de ton malheur! Mieux vaut un voisin proche, qu'un parent éloigné.
Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; and go not to thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
11 Sois sage, mon fils, et réjouis mon cœur, et je saurai que répondre à qui m'outragera.
My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.
12 Le sage voit la calamité, et se met à l'abri; les inconsidérés vont en avant, et sont punis.
A prudent man seeth the evil, [and] hideth himself: [but] the simple pass on, [and] suffer for it.
13 Prends-lui son manteau, car il a cautionné autrui, et nantis-toi de lui plutôt que de l'étranger.
Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; and hold him in pledge [that is surety] for a strange woman.
14 Quand de grand matin à haute voix on salue son prochain, cela est regardé comme une imprécation.
He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
15 L'eau d'une gouttière tombant sans relâche un jour de pluie, et la femme querelleuse sont choses pareilles;
A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike:
16 qui l'arrêterait, arrêterait le vent, et sa main appellerait [bientôt] l'huile à son secours.
He that would restrain her restraineth the wind, and his right hand encountereth oil.
17 Le fer aiguise le fer, et l'un aiguise la colère de l'autre.
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18 Qui garde son figuier, en mange le fruit, et qui a des soins pour son maître, obtient de l'honneur.
Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof; and he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
19 Comme dans les eaux un regard [répond] à un regard, ainsi le cœur de l'homme [répond] au cœur de l'homme.
As in water face [answereth] to face, so the heart of man to man.
20 Les Enfers et l'abîme ne sont jamais rassasiés, et les yeux de l'homme ne sont jamais rassasiés. (Sheol h7585)
Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied; and the eyes of man are never satisfied. (Sheol h7585)
21 Ce qu'est le creuset pour l'argent, la fournaise pour l'or, que chacun le soit pour la bouche qui le loue!
The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, and a man is [tried] by his praise.
22 Quand tu pilerais le fou dans le mortier, parmi les gruaux avec le pilon, sa folie ne le quittera pas.
Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar with a pestle among bruised corn, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
23 Examine l'aspect de ton bétail, et sois attentif à tes troupeaux!
Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, [and] look well to thy herds:
24 Car l'opulence n'est pas éternelle; et une couronne se transmet-elle dans tous les âges?
For riches are not for ever; and doth the crown endure unto all generations?
25 L'herbe disparaît, et la tendre verdure se montre, et l'on recueille les herbes des montagnes;
The hay is carried, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and the herbs of the mountains are gathered in.
26 les agneaux te donnent des vêtements, et les boucs, le prix d'un champ;
The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field:
27 le lait des chèvres suffit à ta nourriture, à la nourriture de ta maison, et à l'entretien de tes servantes.
And [there will be] goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household; and maintenance for thy maidens.
