Proverbes 2
1 O mon fils, si tu accueillais mes paroles, et serrais mes commandements en ton cœur,
Oh, my son, that thou wouldst receive my words, And treasure up my precepts within thee;
2 prêtant l'oreille à la sagesse, et pliant ton cœur à la prudence!…
That thou wouldst apply thine ear to wisdom, And incline thy heart to understanding!
3 Car, si tu invoques la sagesse, si vers la prudence tu fais monter ta voix;
For if thou wilt call aloud to knowledge, And lift up thy voice to understanding, —
4 si tu la cherches comme l'argent, si comme un trésor caché tu veux la découvrir;
If thou wilt seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures,
5 alors tu comprendras la crainte de l'Éternel, et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.
Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.
6 Car l'Éternel donne la sagesse; de sa bouche sortent connaissance et prudence.
For the LORD giveth wisdom; From his mouth proceed knowledge and understanding:
7 Il tient pour les hommes droits le salut en réserve Il est un bouclier pour ceux qui vivent innocents,
He layeth up safety for the righteous; He is a shield to them that walk uprightly:
8 protégeant les sentiers de la justice, et veillant sur la voie de ses adorateurs.
He guardeth the paths of equity, And defendeth the way of his servants.
9 Alors tu comprendras la justice et la loi et la droiture, et toute bonne voie.
Then shalt thou understand righteousness and equity And uprightness, yea, every good path.
10 Si la sagesse entre en ton cœur, et si la science a de l'attrait pour ton âme,
When wisdom entereth into thy heart, And knowledge is pleasant to thy soul,
11 la circonspection veillera sur toi, et la prudence te gardera,
Discretion will guard thee, Understanding will preserve thee.
12 pour te sauver de la voie du méchant, de l'homme qui parle par détours,
It will deliver thee from the way of the wicked, From the men who speak perverse things;
13 de ceux qui quittent le droit chemin, pour suivre des voies ténébreuses;
Who forsake the paths of uprightness, To walk in the ways of darkness;
14 qui trouvent de la joie à faire le mal, du bonheur aux détours de la malice;
Who rejoice in doing evil, And delight in the perverseness of the wicked;
15 dont les voies sont détournées, et les sentiers tortueux;
Whose paths are crooked, And who are froward in their ways.
16 pour te sauver de la femme d'autrui, de l'étrangère qui prend une langue flatteuse,
It will deliver thee from the wife of another, From the stranger, who useth smooth words;
17 abandonne l'ami de sa jeunesse, et oublie l'alliance de son Dieu;
Who forsaketh the friend of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God.
18 car sa maison s'abîme dans la mort, et ses voies mènent chez les ombres;
For her house sinketh down to Death, And her paths to the shades of the dead:
19 tous ceux qui y vont, n'en reviennent point, et ne retrouvent plus le chemin de la vie. –
None that go to her return again; They will not attain the paths of life.
20 Ainsi, marche dans la voie des gens de bien, et suis le chemin des justes.
Therefore walk thou in the way of good men, And keep the paths of the righteous:
21 Car les justes habiteront le pays, et les innocents y seront laissés;
For the upright shall dwell in the land, And the righteous shall remain in it;
22 mais les impies seront arrachés du pays, et les traîtres en seront bannis.
But the wicked shall be cut off from the land, And transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
