Abdias 1
1 Vision d'Abdias. Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel, sur l'Idumée: Nous avons ouï un message de par l'Éternel, et un héraut parmi les peuples est envoyé: « Debout! Faisons une levée contre elle pour l'attaquer! »
The vision of Obadiah, —Thus, saith My Lord, Yahweh, concerning Edom—A rumour, have we heard from Yahweh, and, a herald, throughout the nations, hath been sent, Up! and let us rise against her to war.
2 Voici, je te rendrai chétive parmi les nations, tu seras livrée à un mépris extrême.
Lo! small, have I made thee, among the nations—Despised art thou exceedingly!
3 L'orgueil de ton cœur t'a séduite, parce que tu habites les gorges des rochers, ta haute demeure; elle dit en son cœur: Qui me jetterait par terre?
The insolence of thy heart, hath deceived thee, O thou that inhabitest the retreats of the crag, the height of his habitation, —that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
4 Quand pareille à l'aigle tu élèverais ton aire, quand parmi les étoiles tu la placerais, de là je te précipiterai, dit l'Éternel.
Though thou build high like an eagle, and though, among the stars, thou set thy nest, from thence, will I bring thee down, Declareth Yahweh.
5 Des voleurs t'ont-ils envahie, ou bien des pillards nocturnes? Comme tu es ruinée! Mais enlèvent-ils plus que ce qui leur suffit? Des vendangeurs t'ont-ils envahie? Mais ne laissent-ils rien à grappiller?
If, thieves, had come to thee, if robbers by night—how ruined thou art! Would they not have stolen what sufficed them? If, grape-gatherers, had come to thee, Would they not have left gleanings?
6 Comme Ésaü est fouillé, et ses trésors visités!
How have the things of Esau been searched out! his treasures been sought up!
7 Jusqu'à la frontière tu es repoussée par tous tes alliés, tu es trompée, dupée par tes amis, tes commensaux; ils tendent un piège sous tes pas; il n'y a plus d'intelligence en toi.
Up to the boundary, have they sent thee—All thy covenant men, they have deceived thee, prevailed against thee—the men thou wast wont to salute, —The partakers of thy bread, have put a net under thee—No understanding in him!
8 En ce même jour, dit l'Éternel, n'ôterai-je pas de l'Idumée les sages, et des montagnes d'Ésaü l'intelligence?
Shall it not be, in that day, Demandeth Yahweh, —That I will destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of Mount Esau?
9 Et tes héros, Théman, seront dans l'épouvante, pour que tous ils soient exterminés de la montagne d'Ésaü à cause du carnage.
So shall thy mighty men, O Teman, be dismayed, —to the intent that every man, may be cut off, out of Mount Esau, by slaughter.
10 A cause de l'outrage que tu fis à ton frère Jacob tu seras couvert d'ignominie, et exterminé à jamais!
For thy violence against thy brother Jacob, shall shame, cover thee, —so shalt thou be cut off, to times age-abiding.
11 Le jour où tu te tenais en face de lui, le jour où des étrangers emmenèrent captifs ses bataillons, et où des inconnus entrèrent dans ses portes, et tirèrent Jérusalem au sort; toi aussi tu fus comme l'un d'eux.
In the day when thou didst take thy stand over against him, in the day when foreigners took captive his forces, —and, aliens, entered his gates, and, over Jerusalem, cast lots, even thou, wast like one of them!
12 Ne repais pas ta vue de la journée de ton frère, de sa journée de misère, et que les enfants de Juda ne te réjouissent pas au jour de leur ruine, et ne dilate pas ta bouche au jour du désastre.
Do not, then, look with satisfaction upon the day of thy brother, upon the day of his calamity, Neither rejoice over the sons of Judah—in the day of their ruin, —nor enlarge thy mouth—in the day of distress:
13 N'entre pas dans les portes de mon peuple au jour de sa défaite, toi non plus ne repais pas ta vue de son malheur au jour de sa défaite, et ne porte pas la main sur ses richesses au jour de sa défaite.
Do not enter into the gate of my people—in the day of their misfortune, Do not, thou also, look with satisfaction on his misery—in the day of his misfortune; neither do thou thrust [thy hands] on his substance—in the day of his misfortune;
14 Et ne te tiens pas au carrefour pour massacrer ses fugitifs, et ne livre pas ses réchappés au jour du désastre!
Neither do thou stand at the parting of the way, to cut off his fugitives, —neither do thou deliver up his survivors—in the day of distress.
15 Car elle est proche la journée de l'Éternel sur tous les peuples: ce que tu as fait, te sera fait; tes actes retomberont sur ta tête.
For, near, is the day of Yahweh, upon all the nations, —Just as thou hast done, shall it be done to thee, Thy dealing, shall come back upon thine own head.
16 En effet, comme vous avez bu le calice sur ma montagne sainte, ainsi le boiront tous les peuples à perpétuité; ils le boiront, épuiseront, et ils seront comme s'ils n'eussent pas été.
For, as ye have drunk on my holy mountain, all the nations shall drink continually, —Yea they shall drink and swallow down, and shall be, as though they had not been.
17 Mais sur la montagne de Sion il y aura un refuge, et elle sera sainte, et la maison de Jacob reprendra ses possessions.
But, in Mount Zion, shall be a delivered remnant which shall be holy, —and the house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions;
18 Et la maison de Jacob sera un feu, et la maison de Joseph une flamme, et la maison d'Ésaü le chaume, et ils l'embraseront et la consumeront, et il n'y aura point de survivants de la maison d'Ésaü, car l'Éternel a prononcé.
And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, with the house of Esau for stubble, So shall they kindle upon them, and devour them, —and there shall be no survivor to the house of Esau, for, Yahweh, hath spoken.
19 Et ceux du midi posséderont la montagne d'Ésaü, et ceux de Séphéla la Philistie, et ils posséderont la campagne d'Éphraïm et la campagne de Samarie, et Benjamin Galaad.
Then shall they of the South possess Mount Esau, and they of the Lowlands, the Philistines, and they [of the Mountain] shall possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria, —and Benjamin [shall possess] Gilead;
20 Et les captifs de cette armée des enfants d'Israël, emmenés par les Cananéens jusqu'à Tsarpath, et les captifs de Jérusalem en état de dispersion soumettront les villes du midi,
And, they of the captivity of this force pertaining to the sons of Israel, [shall possess] that of the Canaanites, up to Zarephath, and, they of the captivity of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the South.
21 et il montera des sauveurs sur la montagne de Sion pour juger la montagne d'Ésaü, et à l'Éternel sera l'empire.
And saviours shall come up in Mount Zion, to judge the mountain of Esau, —So shall the kingdom, belong unto Yahweh.
