1 Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,
2 Venge les enfants d'Israël des Madianites; après quoi tu seras recueilli auprès de ton peuple.
Execute the vengeance of the children of Israel on the Midianites, after which thou shalt be gathered unto thy people.
3 Alors Moïse parla au peuple et dit: Équipez militairement des hommes d'entre vous qui marchent contre Madian pour exercer sur Madian les vengeances de l'Éternel;
And Moses spoke unto the people, saying, Arm from yourselves some men for the army, and let them go against the Midianites, to execute the vengeance of the Lord on Midian.
4 vous mettrez en campagne mille hommes par Tribu sur toutes les Tribus d'Israël.
A thousand each for every tribe, of all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the army.
5 Alors on tira des groupes d'Israël mille hommes par Tribu, douze mille hommes équipés militairement.
And there were levied out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for the army.
6 Et Moïse les mit en campagne, mille par Tribu, eux et Phinées, fils du Prêtre Eléazar, qui portait avec lui les instruments sacrés et les trompettes pour sonner la charge.
And Moses sent them, a thousand of every tribe, to the army; them and Phinehas the son of Elazar the priest, to the army, with the holy vessels, and the trumpets for blowing the alarm in his hand.
7 Et ils firent la campagne de Madian selon l'ordre donné à Moïse par l'Éternel, et ils tuèrent tous les mâles.
And they marched out against the Midianites, as the Lord had commanded Moses; and they slew every male.
8 Et ils ajoutèrent à leurs morts les Rois de Madian Evi et Rékem et Tsur et Hur et Reba, cinq rois de Madian; et ils tuèrent avec l'épée Balaam, fils de Behor.
And the kings of Midian they slew, besides the rest of their men that were slain; namely, Evi and Rekem, and Zur, and Chur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian; and Bil'am the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
9 Et les fils d'Israël emmenèrent captives les femmes de Madian et leurs enfants, et prirent comme butin tout leur bétail, et tous leurs troupeaux et tous leurs biens,
And the children of Israel took captives the women of Midian, and their little ones; and all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods, they took as spoil.
10 et ils incendièrent toutes leurs villes dans les lieux qu'ils habitaient et tous leurs bourgs.
And all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their castles they burnt with fire.
11 Et ils emportèrent tout le butin et toutes les dépouilles en hommes et en bestiaux,
And they took all the spoil, and all the booty, both of men and of cattle.
12 et ils les amenèrent à Moïse et au Prêtre Eléazar et à l'Assemblée des enfants d'Israël, les captifs et les dépouilles et le butin, au camp dans les plaines de Moab sur le Jourdain près de Jéricho.
And they brought unto Moses, and to Elazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, the captives, and the booty, and the spoil, unto the camp, to the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan opposite Jericho.
13 Alors sortirent à leur rencontre Moïse et le Prêtre Eléazar et tous les Princes de l'Assemblée en dehors du camp.
And Moses, and Elazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them, to without the camp.
14 Et Moïse s'irrita contre les commandants de l'armée, chefs de mille, et chefs de cent, qui revenaient de l'expédition.
And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, the captains over the thousands, and the captains over the hundreds, who had come from the war-campaign.
15 Et Moïse leur dit: Vous avez laissé la vie à toutes les femmes!
And Moses said unto them, Have ye allowed all the females to live?
16 Voici, ce sont elles qui, sur le conseil de Balaam, ont été pour les enfants d'Israël une cause de rébellion contre l'Éternel à l'occasion de Pehor; ce qui attira la plaie sur l'Assemblée de l'Éternel.
Behold, these chiefly were the cause unto the children of Israel, through the counsel of Bil'am, to commit the gross trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor; through which there was the plague among the congregation of the Lord.
17 Maintenant donc tuez tous les mâles parmi les enfants et tuez toute femme qui aura connu un homme en cohabitation;
And now kill ye every male among the little ones, and every woman that hath known man by lying with him shall ye kill.
18 mais laissez la vie à toutes les filles enfants qui ne connaissent pas la cohabitation d'un homme.
But all among the women-children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
19 Quant à vous, campez hors du camp pendant sept jours, vous tous qui avez tué des hommes, ou touché des morts tombés dans le combat; vous ferez votre expiation le troisième jour et le septième, vous et vos prisonniers.
But ye, —you must abide without the camp seven days: all ye who have killed any person, and all who have touched any one slain, shall purify yourselves on the third day, and on the seventh day; both you and your captives.
20 Et de tous les vêtements, et de tous les ustensiles de cuir, et de tous les tissus de poil de chèvre et de tout meuble de bois vous ferez l'expiation.
And every garment, and whatever is made of skins, and every work of goats' hair, and every vessel made of wood, shall ye purify unto yourselves.
21 Alors le Prêtre Eléazar dit aux hommes de guerre qui avaient fait la campagne: Voici le texte de la loi que l'Éternel a prescrite à Moïse:
And Elazar the priest said unto the men of the army who had gone to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord hath commanded Moses:
22 Quant à l'or, l'argent, l'airain, le fer, l'étain et le plomb,
Nevertheless the gold, and the silver, the copper, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23 tout ce qui va au feu, vous le ferez passer par le feu, pour le rendre pur, et on en fera d'ailleurs l'expiation avec l'eau de purification; seulement tout ce qui ne va pas au feu, vous le passerez dans l'eau.
Every thing that cometh into the fire shall ye make go through the fire, and it shall be clean; only it shall be purified with the waters of sprinkling: and whatsoever doth not come into the fire shall ye cause to go through the water.
24 Et lavez vos vêtements le septième jour pour être en état de pureté; puis vous pourrez rentrer au camp.
And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and after that may ye come into the camp.
25 Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
And the Lord said unto Moses, as followeth,
26 Fais le relevé du butin capturé, en hommes et en bestiaux, toi et le Prêtre Eléazar et les chefs de maisons de l'Assemblée.
Take the sum of the booty of the captives, both of man and of cattle, thou, with Elazar the priest, and the chiefs of the families of the congregation:
27 Et partage les dépouilles entre les gens de guerre qui ont fait la campagne, et toute l'Assemblée.
And thou shalt divide the booty, between those that carried on the war, who went out to the army, and between all the congregation.
28 Et prélève un tribut pour l'Éternel sur les gens de guerre qui ont fait la campagne, un individu sur cinq cents, hommes, bœufs, ânes et menu bétail.
And thou shalt levy a tribute unto the Lord from the men of war who went out to the army, one individual from every five hundred, of the persons, and of the beef-cattle, and of the asses, and of the sheep;
29 Vous le prendrez sur leur moitié, et tu le donneras au Prêtre Eléazar pour le présenter à l'Éternel par élévation.
From their half shall ye take it; and thou shalt give it unto Elazar the priest, for a heave-offering of the Lord.
30 Et sur la moitié qui ira aux enfants d'Israël, tu prendras un sur cinquante, soit hommes, soit bœufs, soit ânes, soit menu bétail et animaux de toute espèce, et tu en feras don aux Lévites qui ont la garde de la Résidence de l'Éternel.
And from the half of the children of Israel, shalt thou take one individual, as it may come, from any fifty, of the persons, of beef-cattle, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of cattle; and thou shalt give the same unto the Levites, who keep the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.
31 Et Moïse et Eléazar, le Prêtre, exécutèrent les ordres donnés par l'Éternel à Moïse.
And Moses with Elazar the priest did, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
32 Et le butin qui resta des captures faites par les gens de guerre, fut: menu bétail, six cent soixante-quinze mille;
And the booty, being the rest of the spoil which the men of the army had taken, was of sheep and goats, six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand,
33 bœufs, soixante-douze mille;
And of beef-cattle, seventy and two thousand,
34 ânes, soixante-un mille;
And of asses, sixty and one thousand,
35 personnes, parmi les femmes qui n'avaient pas connu la cohabitation d'un homme, total des personnes: trente-deux mille.
And of human persons, of women that had not known men by lying with him, in all thirty and two thousand.
36 Et la moitié échue à ceux qui avaient fait la campagne, fut en menu bétail un nombre de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents.
And the half, the portion of those who had gone out in the army, was, in the number of sheep and goats, three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred.
37 Et le tribut levé pour l'Éternel fut: en menu bétail, six cent soixante-quinze;
And the tribute unto the Lord of the flocks was six hundred and seventy and five.
38 et en bœufs (dont il y avait trente-six mille) le tribut pour l'Éternel fut de soixante-douze;
And the beef-cattle were thirty and six thousand; and the tribute thereof unto the Lord was seventy and two.
39 et en ânes (dont il y avait trente mille cinq cents) le tribut pour l'Éternel fut de soixante-un;
And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; and the tribute thereof unto the Lord was sixty and one.
40 et en personnes (dont il y avait seize mille) le tribut pour l'Éternel fut de trente-deux personnes.
And the human persons were sixteen thousand; and the tribute thereof unto the Lord was thirty and two persons.
41 Et Moïse remit au Prêtre Eléazar le tribut à offrir par élévation à l'Éternel, ainsi que l'Éternel l'avait ordonné à Moïse.
And Moses gave the tribute, the Lord's heave-offering, unto Elazar the priest, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
42 Et sur la moitié échue aux enfants d'Israël, que Moïse avait séparée de celle des gens de guerre,
And from the half of the children of Israel, which Moses divided off from the men that had gone forth in the army, —
43 (or cette moitié échue à l'Assemblée était de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents pièces de menu bétail,
(Now the half of the congregation was, of sheep and goats three hundred thousand and thirty thousand, seven thousand and five hundred.
44 trente-six mille bœufs,
And beef-cattle, thirty and six thousand,
45 trente mille cinq cents ânes
And asses thirty thousand five hundred,
46 et seize mille personnes),
And human persons sixteen thousand; )
47 sur la moitié donc échue aux enfants d'Israël, Moïse préleva un sur cinquante, soit hommes, soit pièces de bétail, qu'il donna aux Lévites chargés de la garde de la Résidence de l'Éternel, ainsi que l'Éternel l'avait prescrit à Moïse.
And Moses took from this half of the children of Israel, as it came, one from every fifty, of man and of cattle, and gave the same unto the Levites, who kept the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord; as the Lord had commanded Moses.
48 Alors s'approchèrent de Moïse les commandants des divisions de l'armée, les chefs de mille et les chefs de cent, et ils dirent à Moïse:
And there came near unto Moses the officers who had been over the thousands of the army, the captains of the thousands, and the captains of the hundreds.
49 Tes serviteurs ont fait le relevé des gens de guerre qui étaient sous notre conduite, et pas un ne fait défaut.
And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war who have been under our command, and there lacketh not one man of us.
50 Et nous apportons chacun comme oblation à l'Éternel ce que nous avons trouvé de joyaux d'or, chaînettes, bracelets, bagues, boucles d'oreilles, globules d'or, pour faire notre propitiation devant l'Éternel.
We have therefore brought an oblation unto the Lord, each what he hath gotten of vessels of gold, chains, and bracelets, finger-rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the Lord.
51 Et Moïse et Eléazar, le Prêtre, reçurent d'eux cet or, ouvragé en toutes sortes de joyaux.
And Moses with Elazar the priest took the gold from them, all kinds of wrought articles.
52 Et tout l'or de l'élévation qu'ils offrirent à l'Éternel pesait seize mille sept cent cinquante sicles et venait des chefs de mille et des chefs de cent.
And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the Lord, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from the captains of the thousands, and from the captains of the hundreds.
53 Les gens de guerre avaient chacun remporté son butin.
The men of the army had taken spoil, every man for himself.
54 Moïse et le Prêtre Eléazar reçurent ainsi cet or des chefs de mille et des chefs de cent, et le portèrent dans la Tente du Rendez-vous comme monument des enfants d'Israël devant l'Éternel.
And Moses and Elazar the priest took the gold from the captains of the thousands and of the hundreds, and they brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, as a memorial for the children of Israel before the Lord.
