1 Et Coré, fils de Jitsehar, fils de Kahath, fils de Lévi, forma un parti avec Dathan et Abiram, fils d'Eliab, et On, fils de Peleth, ceux-ci fils de Ruben;
And Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, made bold, and [with him] Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, the sons of Reuben;
2 et ils se soulevèrent contre Moïse avec deux cent cinquante hommes des enfants d'Israël, Princes de l'Assemblée, appelés au Conseil, personnages notables,
and they rose up against Moses, with two hundred and fifty men of the children of Israel, princes of the assembly, summoned to the council, men of renown;
3 et ils se réunirent contre Moïse et Aaron, et ils leur dirent: Vous en faites trop! Car cette Assemblée! c'est tout autant d'hommes consacrés, et l'Éternel est au milieu d'eux; pourquoi donc vous élevez-vous au-dessus de l'Assemblée de l'Éternel?
and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, It is enough; for all the assembly, all of them are holy, and Jehovah is among them; and why do ye lift up yourselves above the congregation of Jehovah?
4 A l'ouïe de ces propos Moïse se jeta la face contre terre,
When Moses heard this, he fell on his face.
5 et s'adressant à Coré et à toute sa faction il leur dit: Demain l'Éternel fera connaître qui est à Lui et qui est consacré pour lui donner accès auprès de Lui; et celui qu'il choisira, Il lui donnera accès auprès de Lui.
And he spoke to Korah and to all his band, saying, Even to-morrow will Jehovah make known who is his, and who is holy; and he will cause him to come near to him; and him whom he has chosen, him will he cause to come near to him.
6 Faites ceci: Prenez des encensoirs, Coré et tout son parti,
This do: take you censers, Korah, and all his band,
7 et mettez-y du feu et jetez-y de l'encens devant l'Éternel, demain, et c'est l'homme que choisira l'Éternel, qui sera le consacré. Vous en faites trop, enfants de Lévi!
and put fire therein, and lay incense thereon before Jehovah to-morrow; and it shall be that the man whom Jehovah doth choose, he shall be holy. It is enough, ye sons of Levi!
8 Et Moïse dit à Coré: Écoutez donc, enfants de Lévi!
And Moses said to Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi!
9 Est-ce trop peu pour vous que le Dieu d'Israël vous ait triés dans l'Assemblée d'Israël pour vous donner accès auprès de Lui pour faire le service de la Résidence de l'Éternel, et pour paraître devant l'Assemblée officiant pour elle?
Is it too little for you, that the God of Israel has separated you from the assembly of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the work of the tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the assembly to minister to them?
10 A toi et à tous tes frères, enfants de Lévi avec toi, Il donne accès auprès de Lui, et vous prétendez encore au Sacerdoce!
— that he has brought thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee; and seek ye now the priesthood also?
11 C'est pour cela que vous vous liguez toi et tout ton parti contre l'Éternel; Aaron en effet, qui est-il pour que vous murmuriez contre lui?
For which cause thou and all thy band are banded together against Jehovah; and Aaron, who is he that ye murmur against him?
12 Et Moïse envoya mander Dathan et Abiram, fils d'Eliab. Mais ils dirent: Nous n'irons point.
And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; but they said, We will not come up!
13 N'est-ce pas assez de nous avoir tirés d'un pays découlant de lait et de miel pour nous faire périr dans le désert, que tu t'ériges en dominateur au-dessus de nous?
Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, that thou must make thyself altogether a ruler over us?
14 Tu ne nous as point non plus conduits dans un pays découlant de lait et de miel, ni mis en possession de champs et de vignes. Veux-tu arracher les yeux à ces hommes? Nous n'irons point.
Moreover, thou hast not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up!
15 Alors Moïse fut fort irrité et il dit à l'Éternel: Ne regarde pas leur offrande! Je ne leur ai pas enlevé un âne, et n'ai pas fait tort à un d'eux.
Then Moses was very wroth, and said to Jehovah, Have no regard to their oblation: not one ass have I taken from them, neither have I hurt one of them.
16 Et Moïse dit à Coré: Demain paraissez, toi et tout ton parti, devant l'Éternel, toi et eux avec Aaron,
And Moses said to Korah, Be thou and all thy band before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, to-morrow.
17 et prenez chacun votre encensoir, et y mettez de l'encens, et apportez devant l'Éternel chacun votre encensoir, deux cent cinquante encensoirs; et toi et Aaron vous viendrez aussi chacun avec son encensoir.
And take each his censer, and put incense thereon, and present before Jehovah every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; and thou, and Aaron, each his censer.
18 Ils prirent donc chacun leur encensoir, et y mirent du feu et y jetèrent de l'encens, et ils parurent à la porte de la Tente du Rendez-vous, ainsi que Moïse et Aaron.
And they took each his censer, and put fire on them, and laid incense thereon, and stood before the entrance to the tent of meeting, as well as Moses and Aaron.
19 Et Coré en opposition avec eux convoqua toute l'Assemblée à la porte de la Tente du Rendez-vous. Alors la gloire de l'Éternel apparut à toute l'Assemblée.
And Korah gathered the whole assembly against them to the entrance of the tent of meeting. And the glory of Jehovah appeared to all the assembly.
20 Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse et Aaron en ces termes:
And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
21 Séparez-vous de ce parti-là: je vais l'exterminer à l'instant.
Separate yourselves from the midst of this assembly, and I will consume them in a moment.
22 Et ils se jetèrent face contre terre, et dirent: O Dieu, Dieu des esprits de toute chair, un homme seul a péché: t'irriteras-tu contre toute l'Assemblée?
And they fell on their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh! shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with the whole assembly?
23 Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse:
And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
24 Parle à l'Assemblée en ces termes: Retirez-vous de tous les côtés à distance de la demeure de Coré, de Dathan et d'Abiram.
Speak unto the assembly, saying, Get you up from about the habitation of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.
25 Alors Moïse se leva et se rendit chez Dathan et Abiram, et il fut suivi par les Anciens d'Israël.
And Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.
26 Et il dit à l'Assemblée: Éloignez-vous des tentes de ces sacrilèges, et ne touchez rien de ce qui est à eux, afin que vous ne soyez pas emportés par tous leurs péchés.
And he spoke to the assembly, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye perish in all their sins.
27 Et ils s'éloignèrent de tous les côtés à distance de la demeure de Coré, et de Dathan et d'Abiram. Et Dathan et Abiram sortirent et se placèrent à la porte de leurs tentes avec leurs femmes, leurs fils, et leurs enfants.
And they got up from the habitation of Koran, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side. And Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the entrance of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little ones.
28 Et Moïse dit: A ceci vous reconnaîtrez que l'Éternel m'a donné la mission de faire tout ce qui a été fait, et que je n'ai pas agi de mon chef:
And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that Jehovah has sent me to do all these deeds, for they are not out of my own heart:
29 Si ces gens meurent de la mort commune à tous les hommes, et subissent la dispensation commune à tous les hommes, ce n'est pas l'Éternel qui m'a envoyé;
if these men die as all men die, and are visited with the visitation of all men, Jehovah has not sent me;
30 mais si l'Éternel crée un fait inouï, et si la terre s'entr'ouvre et les engloutit eux et tout ce qui est à eux, et qu'ils descendent vivants aux Enfers, vous reconnaîtrez que ces gens-là ont répudié l'Éternel. (Sheol h7585)
but if Jehovah make a new thing, and the ground open its mouth, and swallow them up, and all that they have, and they go down alive into Sheol, then ye shall know that these men have despised Jehovah. (Sheol h7585)
31 Et lorsqu'il eut achevé de prononcer toutes ces paroles, le sol qui était sous leurs pieds se fendit,
And it came to pass when he had ended speaking all these words, that the ground clave apart that was under them.
32 et la terre s'entr'ouvrit et les engloutit eux et leurs maisons, et tous les hommes qui tenaient à Coré, et tout leur avoir, et
And the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men that belonged to Korah, and all their property.
33 ils descendirent avec tout ce qu'ils possédaient, vivants dans les Enfers, et la terre les recouvrit et ils furent exterminés du milieu de l'Assemblée. (Sheol h7585)
And they went down, they and all that they had, alive into Sheol, and the earth covered them; and they perished from among the congregation. (Sheol h7585)
34 Et à leurs cris tous les Israélites qui les entouraient s'enfuirent; car ils disaient: Nous craignons que la terre ne nous engloutisse.
And all Israel that were round about them fled at their cry; for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up!
35 Et un feu envoyé par l'Éternel consuma les deux cent cinquante hommes qui avaient offert l'encens.
And there came out a fire from Jehovah, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that had presented incense.
36 Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
37 Dis à Eléazar, fils du Prêtre Aaron, de retirer de l'incendie les encensoirs, et jettes-en le feu au loin, car ce sont choses sacrées,
Speak to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning; and scatter the fire afar; for they are hallowed,
38 ces encensoirs de ces hommes qui ont perdu la vie pour leurs péchés; et qu'on les étende en lames dont on plaquera l'Autel; car on les a présentés devant l'Éternel et ils sont devenus sacrés, et ce sera un monument pour les enfants d'Israël.
the censers of these sinners who have forfeited their life; and they shall make them into broad plates for the covering of the altar; for they presented them before Jehovah, therefore they are hallowed; and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.
39 Alors le Prêtre Eléazar prit les encensoirs d'airain qu'avaient présentés les incendiés, et on en fit des lames dont on plaqua l'Autel,
And Eleazar the priest took the copper censers, which they that were burnt had presented; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:
40 pour rappeler ce souvenir aux enfants d'Israël, afin qu'aucun étranger n'appartenant pas à la race d'Aaron ne s'approchât pour brûler l'encens devant l'Éternel et qu'il ne lui advînt comme à Coré et à son parti, ainsi que l'Éternel l'avait dit par l'organe de Moïse.
as a memorial to the children of Israel, that no stranger who is not of the seed of Aaron come near to burn incense before Jehovah, that he be not as Korah, and as his band, — as Jehovah had said to him through Moses.
41 Et il y eut des murmures de toute l'Assemblée des enfants d'Israël le lendemain contre Moïse et contre Aaron; ils disaient: Vous avez fait mourir le peuple de l'Éternel.
And the whole assembly of the children of Israel murmured on the morrow against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of Jehovah.
42 Et comme l'Assemblée s'attroupait contre Moïse et contre Aaron, ceux-ci se dirigèrent vers la Tente du Rendez-vous; et voici, la nuée la couvrit, et la Gloire de l'Éternel apparut.
And it came to pass, when the assembly was gathered together against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tent of meeting, and behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Jehovah appeared.
43 Et Moïse et Aaron arrivèrent devant la Tente du Rendez-vous.
And Moses and Aaron went before the tent of meeting.
44 Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
45 Otez-vous du milieu de cette Assemblée, car je vais la consumer soudain. Alors ils se jetèrent face contre terre.
Get you up from the midst of this assembly, and I will consume them in a moment. And they fell on their faces.
46 Et Moïse dit à Aaron: Prends l'encensoir et y mets du feu pris sur l'Autel, et y jette de l'encens, et le promène en hâte dans l'Assemblée, et fais la propitiation pour eux; car l'Éternel a donné cours à Sa colère, le fléau a commencé.
And Moses said to Aaron, Take the censer, and put fire thereon from off the altar, and lay on incense, and carry it quickly to the assembly, and make atonement for them; for there is wrath gone out from Jehovah: the plague is begun.
47 Et Aaron prit [l'encensoir], comme avait dit Moïse, et courut au milieu de l'Assemblée, et voilà que le fléau avait commencé parmi le peuple; et il offrit l'encens et fit la propitiation pour le peuple.
And Aaron took as Moses had said, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and behold, the plague had begun among the people; and he put on incense, and made atonement for the people.
48 Et il se plaça entre les morts et les vivants, et le fléau fut arrêté.
And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
49 Et il y eut quatorze mille sept cents personnes qui périrent par ce fléau, sans compter ceux qui étaient morts à propos de Coré.
Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides them that had died because of the matter of Korah.
50 Et Aaron revint auprès de Moïse à l'entrée de la Tente du Rendez-vous, et le fléau était arrêté.
And Aaron returned to Moses to the entrance of the tent of meeting; and the plague was stayed.
