1 Et le peuple murmura comme des gens en détresse, aux oreilles de l'Éternel, et l'Éternel l'entendit, et sa colère s'enflamma, et un feu envoyé par l'Éternel s'alluma parmi eux, et fit des ravages à l'extrémité du camp.
And the people were as murmurers, [speaking] evil in the ears of the LORD: and when the LORD heard it, his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and devoured in the uttermost part of the camp.
2 Alors le peuple éleva ses cris vers Moïse, et Moïse intercéda auprès de l'Éternel, et le feu s'abattit.
And the people cried unto Moses; and Moses prayed unto the LORD, and the fire abated.
3 Et ce lieu reçut le nom de Tabhera (Incendie), parce que le feu de l'Éternel les avait incendiés.
And the name of that place was called Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.
4 Et la tourbe qui était parmi eux fut saisie de convoitise, et même les enfants d'Israël se remirent à pleurer et dirent: Qui nous donnera de la chair pour aliment?
And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
5 Nous avons le souvenir des poissons que nous mangions en Egypte gratis, des concombres et des pastèques et du poireau et des oignons et des aulx,
We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt for nought; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
6 et maintenant nous sommes à jeun, il n'y a rien; nous ne voyons que de la manne.
but now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all: we have nought save this manna to look to.
7 Or la manne était comme de la graine de coriandre et avait l'aspect du bdellium.
And the manna was like coriander seed, and the appearance thereof as the appearance of bdellium.
8 Le peuple courait ça et là et la recueillait, et la broyait avec les meules, ou la pilait dans des mortiers, et la faisait cuire dans des chaudières, et la façonnait en galettes; et elle avait le goût d'oublies à l'huile.
The people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in mortars, and seethed it in pots, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
9 Et quand la rosée tombait la nuit dans le camp, la manne y tombait en même temps.
And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
10 Et Moïse entendit le peuple qui pleurait dans ses familles, chacun à la porte de sa tente; alors la colère de l'Éternel s'enflamma fort ce dont Moïse fut mécontent.
And Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, every man at the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; and Moses was displeased.
11 Et Moïse dit à l'Éternel: Pourquoi traites-tu si mal ton serviteur, et pourquoi ne trouvé-je pas grâce à tes yeux, que tu m'imposes le fardeau de tout ce peuple?
And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou evil entreated thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
12 Est-ce que j'ai conçu tout ce peuple? l'ai-je enfanté pour que tu me dises: Porte-le dans ton sein, comme le nourricier porte le nourrisson, au pays que j'ai promis par serment à ses pères?
Have I conceived all this people? have I brought them forth, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing-father carrieth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
13 D'où puis-je tirer de la chair pour en nourrir tout ce peuple? Car ils s'adressent à moi en pleurant: Donne-nous de la chair à manger!
Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
14 Je ne saurais à moi seul être chargé de tout ce peuple, car c'est au-dessus de mes forces.
I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.
15 Que si tu veux me traiter ainsi, ah! si j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, fais-moi périr, afin que je ne voie pas ma misère.
And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.
16 Alors l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Choisis-moi soixante-dix hommes parmi les Anciens d'Israël que tu connais pour être Anciens du peuple et préposés sur lui, et amène-les à la Tente du Rendez-vous, et qu'ils s'y présentent avec toi.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with thee.
17 Et je descendrai et parlerai là avec toi, et je prendrai de l'esprit qui repose sur toi, et en mettrai sur eux, afin qu'ils portent avec toi le fardeau du peuple, et que tu n'en sois plus chargé seul.
And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
18 Et tu diras au peuple: Sanctifiez-vous pour demain et vous aurez de la chair à manger; car vous avez pleuré aux oreilles de l'Éternel et dit: Qui nous donnera de la chair à manger, car nous étions bien en Egypte? et l'Éternel vous donnera de la chair à manger.
And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
19 Ce ne sera ni un jour ni deux que vous en mangerez, ni cinq, ni dix, ni vingt jours,
Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
20 mais un mois de temps, jusqu'à ce qu'elle s'exhale par vos narines, et qu'elle vous dégoûte, parce que vous avez répudié l'Éternel qui est au milieu de vous, et pleuré devant lui et dit: Pourquoi donc avons-nous quitté l'Egypte?
but a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have rejected the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?
21 Et Moïse dit: Il y a six cent mille hommes de pied dans ce peuple au milieu duquel je suis, et Tu dis: Je leur donnerai de la chair, de quoi manger un mois de temps.
And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
22 Égorgera-t-on pour eux du gros et du menu bétail jusqu'à leur suffisance? réunira-t-on tous les poissons de la mer pour qu'ils aient assez?
Shall flocks and herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
23 Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: La main de l'Éternel se raccourcit-elle? Tu vas voir si ma parole s'exécutera ou non.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD’S hand waxed short? now shalt thou see whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
24 Et Moïse sortit et redit au peuple les paroles de l'Éternel, et il choisit soixante-dix hommes parmi les Anciens du peuple et les plaça autour de la Tente.
And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD: and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the Tent.
25 Et l'Éternel descendit dans la nue et lui parla, et Il prit de l'esprit qui reposait sur lui, et Il en mit sur les soixante-dix Anciens. Et lorsque l'esprit reposa sur eux, ils prophétisèrent; mais ils ne le firent plus de nouveau.
And the LORD came down in the cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and put it upon the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did so no more.
26 Or deux hommes étaient restés dans le camp, l'un nommé Eldad, l'autre Medad; et l'esprit vint reposer sur eux (ils étaient parmi les [soixante-dix] inscrits, quoiqu'ils n'eussent point paru à la Tente) et ils prophétisaient dans le camp.
But there remained two men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but had not gone out unto the Tent: and they prophesied in the camp.
27 Aussitôt le jeune garçon courut en informer Moïse et lui dit: Eldad et Medad prophétisent dans le camp.
And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
28 Et Josué, fils de Nun, serviteur de Moïse depuis sa jeunesse, prit la parole et dit: Mon seigneur, Moïse, empêche-les.
And Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his chosen men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
29 Mais Moïse lui dit: Veux-tu montrer du zèle pour moi? Je voudrais que dans le peuple de l'Éternel tous fussent des prophètes, que l'Éternel mît son esprit sur eux.
And Moses said unto him, Art thou jealous for my sake? would God that all the LORD’S people were prophets, that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
30 Et Moïse se retira dans le camp, lui et les Anciens d'Israël.
And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
31 Et un vent envoyé par l'Éternel amena des cailles à travers la mer et les abattit dans le camp sur un espace d'environ une journée de marche d'un côté et d'environ une journée de marche de l'autre autour du camp, à deux coudées environ au-dessus du sol.
And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, about a day’s journey on this side, and a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and about two cubits above the face of the earth.
32 Et le peuple se mit en mouvement pendant tout ce jour-là, toute la nuit et tout le lendemain, et ramassa les cailles; le moins qu'un homme en ramassât était dix homers; et ils les étendirent pour leur usage aux alentours du camp.
And the people rose up all that day, and all the night, and all the next day, and gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
33 La chair était encore entre leurs dents, et n'était pas encore consommée, que la colère de l'Éternel s'enflamma contre le peuple et l'Éternel frappa le peuple d'une mortalité très grande.
While the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.
34 Et ce lieu reçut le nom de Kibroth-Haththava (tombeaux de la convoitise), parce que là le peuple inhuma ceux que la convoitise avait saisis.
And the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.
35 De Kibroth-Haththava le peuple se mit en marche pour Hathseroth, et il s'arrêta à Hathseroth.
From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed unto Hazeroth; and they abode at Hazeroth.
