Nahum 1
1 Oracle contre Ninive. Livre de la vision de Nahum d'Elkosch.
THE BURDEN of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
2 L'Éternel est un Dieu jaloux et vengeur; l'Éternel est vengeur et plein de courroux; l'Éternel se venge de ses ennemis et garde du ressentiment à ses adversaires.
The LORD is a jealous and avenging God, the LORD avengeth and is full of wrath; the LORD taketh vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserveth wrath for His enemies.
3 L'Éternel est lent à s'irriter et grand en force, et Il ne laisse point impuni. L'Éternel marche dans l'ouragan et la tempête, et les nuées sont la poussière de ses pieds;
The LORD is long-suffering, and great in power, and will by no means clear the guilty; the LORD, in the whirlwind and in the storm is His way, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.
4 Il gourmande la mer et la dessèche, et tarit tous les fleuves; Basan et le Carmel se fanent, et la verdure du Liban se flétrit.
He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers; Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
5 Les montagnes s'ébranlent devant lui et les collines se décomposent; à son aspect la terre se soulève, le monde et tous ses habitants.
The mountains quake at Him, and the hills melt; and the earth is upheaved at His presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
6 Qui tiendrait devant son courroux, et qui resterait debout au feu de sa colère? Sa fureur s'épanche comme des flammes, et les rochers s'éboulent devant lui.
Who can stand before His indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder before Him.
7 L'Éternel est bon, Il est un refuge au jour de la détresse, et Il connaît ceux qui se confient en lui.
The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that take refuge in Him.
8 Mais par des flots envahissants Il portera la ruine dans le lieu où elle est sise, et les ténèbres poursuivront ses ennemis.
But with an overrunning flood He will make a full end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue His enemies.
9 Que tramez-vous contre l'Éternel? c'est lui qui détruit! le désastre ne s'exécutera pas en deux fois.
What do ye devise against the LORD? He will make a full end; trouble shall not rise up the second time.
10 Car tels que des ronces entrelacées, et comme ivres de leur vin, ils seront dévorés, ainsi que le chaume sec, totalement.
For though they be like tangled thorns, and be drunken according to their drink, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.
11 De toi, [Ninive, ] sortit celui qui machinait le mal contre l'Éternel, celui qui médita la ruine.
Out of thee came he forth, that deviseth evil against the LORD, that counselleth wickedness.
12 Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Quand même ils sont au complet et si nombreux, cependant ils seront moissonnés, et c'en est fait. Et si je t'ai humilié, [Juda, ] je ne t'humilierai plus.
Thus saith the LORD: Though they be in full strength, and likewise many, even so shall they be cut down, and he shall pass away; and though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
13 Et maintenant je veux briser son joug de dessus ta tête et rompre tes fers.
And now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
14 Quant à toi, [Assyrien, ] voici ce qu'ordonne l'Éternel: A l'avenir il n'y aura plus de rejeton de ton nom; de la maison de ton Dieu j'arracherai les idoles de taille et de fonte, je te prépare ton tombeau, car tu fus trop léger.
And the LORD hath given commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown; out of the house of thy god will I cut off the graven image and the molten image; I will make thy grave; for thou art become worthless.
15 Là le feu te dévorera, l'épée te détruira, te dévorera comme l'attelabe, quand tu serais nombreuse comme l'attelabe, nombreuse comme la sauterelle.
Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that announceth peace! Keep thy feasts, O Judah, perform thy vows; for the wicked one shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
