Luc 12
1 Sur ces entrefaites les myriades de la multitude s'étant agglomérées de manière à se fouler réciproquement, il se mit à dire à ses disciples: « Avant tout tenez-vous en garde contre le levain, je veux dire l'hypocrisie, des pharisiens;
In the mean time, when myriads of the people had come together, so that they trod one upon another, he began to say to his disciples first of all: Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
2 mais il n'est rien de couvert qui ne doive être manifesté, ni rien de caché qui ne doive être connu.
For there is nothing covered, which shall not be revealed, and hid, which shall not be made known.
3 C'est pourquoi tout ce que vous avez dit dans les ténèbres sera entendu dans la lumière, et ce dont vous avez parlé à l'oreille dans les chambres sera proclamé sur les toits.
Wherefore, what you have spoken in the darkness, shall be heard in the light; and what you have spoken in the ear in closets, shall be proclaimed upon the house-tops.
4 Mais je vous dis, à vous qui êtes mes amis: Ne craignez pas ceux qui tuent le corps, et qui, après cela, ne peuvent rien faire de plus;
But I say to you, my friends, Fear not them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
5 mais je vous montrerai qui vous avez à craindre. Craignez Celui qui, après avoir tué, a le pouvoir de jeter dans la géhenne. Oui, je vous le dis, craignez Celui-là. (Geenna g1067)
But I will show you whom you shall fear: Fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, Fear him. (Geenna g1067)
6 Ne vend-on pas cinq passereaux pour deux as? Eh bien, pas un seul d'entre eux n'est oublié devant Dieu;
Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings? yet not one of them is forgotten before God.
7 mais les cheveux même de votre tête ont tous été comptés. Ne craignez point; vous valez mieux que beaucoup de passereaux.
But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
8 Or je vous déclare que quiconque se déclarera pour moi devant les hommes, le fils de l'homme se déclarera aussi pour lui devant les anges de Dieu;
And I further say to you, Whoever confesses me before men, him will the Son of man also confess before the angels of God.
9 mais celui qui m'aura renié devant les hommes sera renié devant les anges de Dieu.
But he that denies me before men, shall be denied before the angels of God.
10 Et quiconque proférera une parole contre le fils de l'homme, il lui sera pardonné, mais à celui qui aura blasphémé contre le Saint-Esprit, il ne sera pas pardonné.
And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but he that speaks impiously against the Holy Spirit, shall not be forgiven.
11 Mais quand ils vous entraîneront devant les synagogues et les magistrats et les autorités, ne vous inquiétez point de la forme ni des moyens de votre défense, ni de ce que vous pourrez dire;
When they bring you to the synagogues, and to rulers and authorities, be not anxious how or what you shall answer, or what you shall say;
12 car le Saint-Esprit vous enseignera à cette heure même ce qu'il faut dire. »
for the Holy Spirit shall teach you in that hour what you ought to say.
13 Or quelqu'un de la foule lui dit: « Maître, dis à mon frère de partager avec moi notre héritage. »
And a certain one of the multitude said to him: Teacher, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
14 Mais il lui dit: « O homme! qui est-ce qui m'a établi sur vous juge ou arbitre? »
But he said to him: Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?
15 Puis il leur dit: « Prenez garde, et préservez-vous de toute espèce de cupidité; car ce n'est pas parce qu'il a du superflu, que la vie de quelqu'un dépend de ce qu'il possède. »
And he said to them: Take heed and beware of covetousness; for a man’s life depends not on the abundance of his possessions.
16 Or il leur adressa une parabole, en disant: « La terre d'un homme riche avait porté une abondante récolte,
And he spoke a parable to them, saying: The farm of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully.
17 et il délibérait en lui-même, disant: « Que ferai-je? car je n'ai pas de place pour serrer mes fruits? »
And he reasoned within himself, saying: What shall I do? for I have no place in which I can store my fruits.
18 Et il dit: « Voici ce que je ferai; j'abattrai mes greniers et j'en bâtirai de plus grands, et j'y serrerai tout mon blé et mes biens,
And he said: This will I do: I will pull down my barns and I will build larger ones; and there I will store ail my produce, and my good things;
19 et je dirai à mon âme: Mon âme, tu as beaucoup de biens amassés pour beaucoup d'années, repose-toi, mange, bois, réjouis-toi. »
and I will say to my soul: Soul, you have many good things laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.
20 Mais Dieu lui dit: « Insensé, cette nuit-ci on doit te redemander ton âme, mais ce que tu as mis en réserve, à qui sera-t-il? »
But God said to him: Senseless man, this night shall your soul be required of you; and who shall have the things which you have provided?
21 Il en est ainsi de celui qui thésaurise pour lui-même et qui ne s'enrichit pas pour Dieu. »
So is he that lays up treasure for him self, and is not rich toward God.
22 Puis il dit aux disciples: « C'est pourquoi je vous le déclare: ne vous inquiétez point pour votre vie de ce que vous mangerez, ni pour votre corps de quoi vous serez vêtus;
And he said to his disciples: For this reason I say to you, Be not anxious for your life, what you shall eat; nor for your body, what you shall put on.
23 car la vie est plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que le vêtement.
Life is a greater gift than food, and the body, than clothing.
24 Observez les corbeaux: car ils ne sèment, ni ne moissonnent, ils n'ont ni cellier ni grenier, et Dieu les nourrit. Combien ne valez-vous pas mieux que les oiseaux?
Consider the ravens, that they neither sow nor reap; which have neither storehouse nor granary; yet God feeds them: you are of far more value than the birds.
25 Mais lequel de vous peut, par ses inquiétudes, ajouter une coudée à sa taille?
Which of you, by his anxiety, can add one span to his life?
26 Si donc vous ne pouvez pas même la moindre chose, pourquoi vous inquiétez-vous du reste?
If, therefore, you can not do that which is the least, why are you anxious about the rest?
27 Observez les lys: comment croissent-ils? Ils ne travaillent ni ne filent; cependant je vous le déclare, Salomon dans toute sa gloire ne s'est pas même vêtu comme l'un d'eux.
Consider the lilies, how they grow. They toil not, they spin not; yet I say to you, that Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.
28 Or, si Dieu revêt ainsi dans là campagne l'herbe qui vit aujourd'hui et qui demain est jetée dans un four, à combien plus forte raison le fera-t-Il pour vous, gens de peu de foi?
If, then, God so clothes the herb of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
29 Ne cherchez pas non plus ce que vous mangerez et ce que vous boirez, et soyez sans inquiétude;
And seek not what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, and be not in anxious suspense.
30 car ce sont les nations de ce monde qui recherchent toutes ces choses, tandis que votre Père sait que vous en avez besoin.
For all these things the nations of the world seek after; but your Father knows that you have need of these things.
31 Eh bien cherchez Son royaume, et ces choses-là vous seront données par-dessus.
But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be given you in addition.
32 Ne craignez point, petit troupeau; car votre Père a trouvé bon de vous donner le royaume;
Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
33 vendez ce que vous possédez et donnez-le en aumônes, faites-vous des bourses qui ne vieillissent point, un trésor inépuisable dans les cieux, là où le voleur n'approche point, et où la teigne ne détruit point;
Sell what you have, and be charitable. Make for yourselves purses that do not become old, an unfailing treasure in the heavens, where no thief comes near, and no moth corrupts.
34 car là où est votre trésor, là aussi sera votre cœur.
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
35 « Que vos reins soient ceints, et vos lampes allumées,
Let your loins be girded, and your lamps burning;
36 et soyez vous-mêmes semblables à des hommes qui attendent le moment où leur maître reviendra des noces, afin que, lorsqu'il sera arrivé et qu'il aura heurté, ils lui ouvrent aussitôt.
and be like men that are waiting for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that, when he comes and knocks, they may open for him immediately.
37 Heureux ces esclaves-là que le maître à son arrivée trouvera veillant! En vérité je vous déclare qu'il se ceindra, et les fera mettre à table, et qu'il viendra les servir.
Blessed are those servants whom their lord, when he comes, shall find watching. Verily I say to you, That he will gird himself and make them recline at table, and will come forth and serve them.
38 Et, soit qu'il vienne à la deuxième ou à la troisième veille, et qu'il les trouve en cet état, bien heureux sont-ils!
And if he shall come in the second watch, and if he shall come in the third watch, and find them thus, blessed are those servants.
39 Mais sachez ceci, c'est que si le chef de famille savait à quelle heure le voleur devait venir, il aurait veillé, et n'aurait pas laissé forcer sa maison.
But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief comes, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken through.
40 Vous aussi soyez prêts, car le fils de l'homme doit venir à l'heure dont vous ne vous doutez pas. ».
Be you, therefore, ready also; for at an hour when you think not, the Son of man comes.
41 Mais Pierre dit: « Seigneur, est-ce à nous que tu adresses cette parabole, ou aussi à tous. »
Then Peter said to him: Lord, dost them speak this parable to us, or also to all?
42 Et le seigneur dit: « Quel est donc l'économe fidèle et prudent que le maître établira sur ses gens pour donner la ration à propos?
And the Lord said: Who, then, is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his servants, to give them their portion of food at the proper time?
43 Heureux cet esclave que son maître, à son arrivée, trouvera agissant de la sorte!
Blessed is that servant whom his lord, when he comes, shall find so doing.
44 En vérité je vous déclare qu'il le mettra à la tête de tous ses biens.
Of a truth, I say to you, that he will make him ruler over all that he has.
45 Mais si cet esclave-là se dit en son cœur: Mon maître tarde à venir, et qu'il se mette à battre les serviteurs et les servantes, à manger, à boire et à s'enivrer,
But if that servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming, and shall begin to strike the men-servants and the maid-servants, and to eat and to drink, and to be drunk;
46 le maître de cet esclave arrivera le jour où il ne s'y attend pas, et à l'heure qu'il ne connaît pas, et il le pourfendra, et il lui assignera son lot parmi les infidèles.
the lord of that servant will come in a day in which he looks not for him, and at an hour which he knows not; and will cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the unfaithful.
47 Mais cet esclave qui, ayant connu la volonté de son maître, ne s'est pas tenu prêt ou n'a pas agi selon sa volonté, sera battu de plusieurs coups;
And that servant who knew his lord’s will, but made no preparation, nor did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes;
48 tandis que celui qui, ne l'ayant pas connue, a fait néanmoins des choses dignes de châtiment, sera battu de peu de coups. Or, à quiconque il a été beaucoup donné, il lui sera beaucoup redemandé, et à qui on a beaucoup confié, on lui demandera encore davantage.
but he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. To whomever much has been given, of him shall much be required; and to whom men have intrusted much, of him will they ask the more.
49 Je suis venu apporter du feu sur la terre, et qu'ai-je à désirer si déjà il est allumé?
I have come to send fire on the earth; and how greatly do I wish that it were already kindled!
50 Mais il est un baptême dont je dois être baptisé; et dans quelle angoisse ne suis-je pas, jusques à ce qu'il ait été accompli!
I have an immersion with which to be immersed, and how distressed I am till it be accomplished!
51 Vous imaginez-vous que je suis venu pour mettre la paix sur la terre? Non, vous dis-je, mais plutôt la discorde;
Do you think that I have come to give peace in the earth? I toll you, No; but rather dissension.
52 car désormais il y en aura cinq dans une maison qui seront en discorde, trois contre deux, et deux contre trois;
For from this time forth there shall be five in one house at variance, three with two, and two with three.
53 le père sera en discorde avec le fils et le fils avec le père, la mère avec la fille, et la fille avec la mère, la belle-mère avec sa bru, et la bru avec la belle-mère. »
The father shall be at variance with the son, and the son with the father; the mother with the daughter, and the daughter with the mother; the mother-in-law with her daughter-in-law, and the daughter-in-law with her mother-in-law.
54 Or il disait aussi à la foule: « Quand vous voyez un nuage qui se lève au couchant, vous dites aussitôt: « la pluie va venir, » et c'est ce qui arrive;
And he said also to the multitudes: When you see the cloud rising from the west, you immediately say, There comes a shower: and so it is.
55 et quand vous voyez souffler le vent du midi, vous dites: « il y aura une grande chaleur, » et c'est ce qui arrive.
And when the south wind blows, you say, There will be heat: and it comes to pass.
56 Hypocrites! vous savez discerner l'aspect de la terre et du ciel, mais comment ne savez-vous pas discerner le temps actuel?
Hypocrites, you know how to judge of the face of the earth, and of the heavens; but how is it that you do not judge of this time?
57 Mais pourquoi ne jugez-vous pas non plus par vous-mêmes de ce qui est juste?
And why even of yourselves do you not judge what is right?
58 Car lorsque tu vas avec ton adversaire devant un magistrat, fais tes efforts pendant la route pour te réconcilier avec lui, de peur qu'il ne te traîne devant le juge; et le juge te livrera au recors et le recors te jettera en prison.
For when you are going with your opponent at law to the ruler, while you are on the way, endeavor to be delivered from him, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the collector, and the collector throw you into prison.
59 Je te déclare que tu ne sortiras certainement pas de là, que tu n'aies payé jusqu'à la dernière pite. »
I say to you, You shall not come out thence, till you have paid the very last mite.
