Josué 20
1 Et l'Éternel parla à Josué en ces termes:
The Lord also spake vnto Ioshua, saying,
2 Parle aux enfants d'Israël en ces termes: Établissez-vous des Villes de Refuge, comme je vous l'ai dit par l'organe de Moïse,
Speake to the children of Israel, and say, Appoint you cities of refuge, whereof I spake vnto you by the hand of Moses,
3 qui servent d'asile à l'homicide qui aura tué une personne par mégarde, sans intention; et qu'elles soient pour vous un refuge contre le vengeur du sang.
That the slaier that killeth any person by ignorance, and vnwittingly, may flee thither, and they shall be your refuge from the auenger of blood.
4 Et qu'il se réfugie dans l'une de ces villes-là, et qu'il se présente à l'entrée de la Porte de la ville et qu'il expose son cas aux oreilles des Anciens de cette ville-là; et ils le recueilleront vers eux dans la ville et lui accorderont un domicile pour y demeurer dans son enceinte avec eux.
And he that doeth flee vnto one of those cities, shall stand at the entring of the gate of the citie, and shall shewe his cause to the Elders of the citie: and they shall receiue him into the citie vnto them, and giue him a place, that hee may dwell with them.
5 Et, si le vengeur du sang le poursuit, on ne livrera pas l'homicide entre ses mains, car c'est sans intention qu'il a tué son prochain, et il ne le haïssait ni d'hier, ni d'avant-hier.
And if the auenger of blood pursue after him, they shall not deliuer the slaier into his hand because hee smote his neighbour ignorantly, neither hated he him before time:
6 Et il restera dans cette même ville jusqu'à ce qu'il ait comparu devant l'Assemblée pour être jugé, jusqu'à la mort du Grand-Prêtre qui existera dans ce temps-là. Alors l'homicide pourra s'en retourner et rentrer dans sa ville et dans sa maison, dans la ville d'où il s'était enfui.
But hee shall dwell in that citie vntill hee stande before the Congregation in iudgement, or vntill the death of the hie Priest that shall be in those daies: then shall the slaier returne, and come vnto his owne citie, and vnto his owne house, euen vnto the citie from whence he fled.
7 Et ils consacrèrent Kédès en Galilée dans la montagne de Nephthali et Sichem dans la montagne d'Ephraïm et Kiriath-Arba, c'est-à-dire, Hébron dans la montagne de Juda.
Then they appointed Kedesh in Galil in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba, (which is Hebron) in the mountaine of Iudah.
8 Et au delà du Jourdain vers Jéricho à l'orient ils désignèrent Betser dans le désert dans la plaine, de la Tribu de Ruben, et Ramoth en Galaad, de la Tribu de Gad, et Golan en Basan, de la Tribu de Manassé.
And on the other side Iorden toward Iericho Eastward, they appoynted Bezer in the wildernesse vpon the plaine, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead, out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan, out of the tribe of Manasseh.
9 Telles furent les villes assignées à tous les enfants d'Israël et à l'étranger en séjour chez eux, pour servir d'asile à quiconque tuerait une personne par mégarde, afin qu'il ne meure pas de la main du vengeur du sang, jusqu'à ce qu'il ait comparu devant l'Assemblée.
These were the cities appoynted for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that soiourned among them, that whosoeuer killed any person ignorantly, might flee thither, and not die by the hande of the auenger of blood, vntill hee stoode before the Congregation.
