1 Après cela eut lieu une fête des Juifs, et Jésus monta à Jérusalem.
After this there was a feast of the Jews: and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Or il existe à Jérusalem, près de la porte des brebis, une piscine, celle qui est nommée en hébreu Bethsaïda; elle est entourée de cinq portiques,
Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep [market] a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue, Bethesda, having five porches.
3 dans lesquels était couchée une multitude de malades, aveugles, boiteux, paralysés.
In these lay a great multitude of impotent persons, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 [Car un ange du Seigneur descendait de temps en temps dans la piscine et agitait l'eau; celui donc qui entrait le premier dans la piscine après l'agitation de l'eau était guéri, de quelque maladie qu'il fût atteint.]
For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and agitated the water: whoever then first after the stirring of the water stepped in, was cured of whatever disease he had.
5 Or il se trouvait là un homme qui était depuis trente-huit ans en état de maladie;
And a certain man was there, who had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6 Jésus l'ayant vu couché, et ayant su qu'il l'était déjà depuis longtemps, lui dit: « Veux-tu être guéri? »
When Jesus saw him lying, and knew that he had been now a long time [in that case], he saith to him, Wilt thou be healed?
7 Le malade lui répliqua: « Seigneur, je n'ai personne pour me jeter dans la piscine quand l'eau a été agitée; mais pendant que j'y vais moi-même un autre descend avant moi. »
The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is agitated, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8 Jésus lui dit: « Lève-toi, emporte ta couchette, et marche. »
Jesus saith to him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 Et aussitôt l'homme fut guéri, et il emporta sa couchette, et il marchait; or ce jour-là était un jour de sabbat.
And immediately the man was healed, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
10 Les Juifs disaient donc au guéri: « C'est un jour de sabbat, il ne t'est pas permis d'emporter ta couchette. »
The Jews therefore said to him that was cured, it is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to carry [thy] bed.
11 Mais il leur répliqua: « Celui qui m'a guéri m'a dit lui-même: Emporte ta couchette, et marche. »
He answered them, He that healed me, the same said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
12 Ils lui demandèrent: « Qui est l'homme qui t'a dit: Emporte, et marche? »
Then they asked him, What man is that who said to thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
13 Mais le guéri ne savait qui c'était, car Jésus s'était esquivé grâce à la foule qui se trouvait en cet endroit.
And he that was healed knew not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in [that] place.
14 Ensuite Jésus le trouve dans le temple et il lui dit: « Voici, tu as été guéri, ne pèche plus, afin qu'il ne t'arrive pas pire. »
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art cured: sin no more, lest a worse thing come to thee.
15 L'homme s'en alla, et il informa les Juifs que c'était Jésus qui l'avait guéri;
The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him.
16 c'est pourquoi les Juifs poursuivaient Jésus, parce qu'il avait fait cela un jour de sabbat.
And therefore the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath.
17 Mais Jésus leur répliqua: « Mon Père travaille jusques à maintenant, et moi aussi je travaille. »
But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
18 A cause de cela les Juifs cherchaient donc encore plus à le faire mourir, parce que non seulement il anéantissait le sabbat, mais encore parce qu'il appelait Dieu son propre père, se faisant lui-même égal à Dieu.
Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
19 Il reprit donc la parole et il leur disait: « En vérité, en vérité je vous le déclare: le Fils ne peut rien faire de lui-même, s'il ne le voit faire au Père; car quoi que fasse Celui-ci, le Fils aussi le fait pareillement;
Then answered Jesus, and said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing by himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for whatever things he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
20 car le Père aime le Fils, et Il lui montre tout ce qu'il fait lui-même, et Il lui montrera des œuvres plus grandes que celles-ci, afin que vous soyez émerveillés;
For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 car comme le Père ressuscite et vivifie les morts, de même aussi le Fils vivifie qui il veut;
For as the Father raiseth the dead, and reviveth [them]; even so the Son reviveth whom he will.
22 le Père non plus ne juge personne, mais Il a remis au Fils le jugement tout entier,
For the Father judgeth no man; but hath committed all judgment to the Son:
23 afin que tous honorent le Fils comme ils honorent le Père; celui qui n'honore point le Fils n'honore pas le Père qui l'a envoyé.
That all [men] should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son, honoreth not the Father who hath sent him.
24 En vérité, en vérité je vous déclare que celui qui écoute ma parole, et qui croit en Celui qui m'a envoyé possède la vie éternelle, et il ne subit pas de jugement, mais il est passé de la mort à la vie. (aiōnios g166)
Verily, verily, I say to you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but hath passed from death to life. (aiōnios g166)
25 En vérité, en vérité je vous déclare que l'heure vient, et elle est maintenant arrivée, où les morts entendront la voix du fils de Dieu, et ceux qui l'auront entendue vivront;
Verily, verily, I say to you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
26 car, comme le Père a la vie en Lui-même, ainsi Il a donné aussi au Fils d'avoir la vie en lui-même,
For as the Father hath life in himself, so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
27 et Il lui a donné pouvoir de juger, parce que c'est un fils d'homme.
And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
28 Ne vous en étonnez pas, car l'heure vient où tous ceux qui sont dans les sépulcres entendront sa voix, et en sortiront,
Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 ceux qui auront fait le bien, pour une résurrection de vie, ceux qui auront fait le mal, pour une résurrection de jugement.
And shall come forth; they that have done good to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of damnation.
30 Je ne puis, quant à moi, rien faire de moi-même; comme j'entends je juge, et mon jugement est juste, parce que je ne recherche pas ma propre volonté, mais la volonté de Celui qui m'a envoyé.
I can of my own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father who hath sent me.
31 Si c'est moi qui témoigne en ma faveur, mon témoignage n'est pas véridique;
If I testify concerning myself, my testimony is not true.
32 c'est un autre qui témoigne pour moi, et je sais que le témoignage qu'il porte en ma faveur est véridique.
There is another that testifieth concerning me, and I know that the testimony which he beareth concerning me is true.
33 Pour vous, vous avez envoyé auprès de Jean, et il a rendu témoignage à la vérité;
Ye sent to John, and he testified to the truth.
34 mais moi, ce n'est pas d'un homme que je reçois le témoignage qui m'est rendu; si j'en parle, c'est afin que vous soyez sauvés;
But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye may be saved.
35 il était la lampe qui brûle et qui luit, mais vous, vous avez voulu vous égayer un instant à sa lumière.
He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
36 Quant à moi, j'ai un témoignage qui est plus grand que celui de Jean, car les œuvres que le Père m'a données afin que je les accomplisse, ces œuvres mêmes que je fais témoignent pour moi que le Père m'a envoyé;
But I have greater testimony than [that] of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear testimony concerning me, that the Father hath sent me.
37 et le Père qui m'a envoyé, c'est Lui qui a témoigné pour moi. Jamais vous n'avez entendu Sa voix, ni vous n'avez vu Sa figure,
And the Father himself who hath sent me, hath borne testimony concerning me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
38 et vous n'avez pas Sa parole demeurant en vous, car vous ne croyez pas en celui que Lui-même a envoyé.
And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
39 Vous scrutez les Écritures, parce que vous pensez posséder en elles la vie éternelle, et ce sont elles qui témoignent pour moi, (aiōnios g166)
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. (aiōnios g166)
40 et vous ne voulez pas venir à moi pour avoir la vie!
And ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.
41 Ce n'est pas que j'accepte une gloire dispensée par les hommes,
I receive not honor from men.
42 mais j'ai connu que vous n'avez pas en vous l'amour de Dieu;
But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
43 moi, je suis venu au nom de mon Père, et vous ne me recevez pas; si un autre vient en son propre nom, celui-là, vous le recevrez.
I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 Comment pouvez-vous croire, vous qui acceptez une gloire que vous vous dispensez mutuellement, et qui ne cherchez pas la gloire qui vient de l'Unique?
How can ye believe, who receive honor one from another, and seek not the honor that [cometh] from God only?
45 Ne pensez pas que ce soit moi qui vous accuserai auprès du Père; votre accusateur auprès du Père, c'est Moïse en qui vous avez espéré;
Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is [one] that accuseth you, [even] Moses, in whom ye trust.
46 car si vous croyiez Moïse, vous me croiriez aussi, car il a écrit sur moi;
For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote concerning me.
47 mais si vous ne croyez pas à ses écrits, comment pouvez-vous croire à mes paroles? »
But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
