Joël 2
1 Sonnez de la trompette en Sion, et donnez l'alarme sur ma sainte montagne! que tous les habitants du pays tremblent! car le jour de l'Éternel arrive, car il est proche;
Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain; let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of Jehovah cometh, for it is at hand;
2 jour ténébreux et sombre, jour de nuées et d'obscurité. Telle s'étend l'aurore sur les montagnes, tel [s'avance] un peuple nombreux et fort, comme il n'y en eut point dès les temps éternels et il n'y en aura plus après lui dans les années des âges et des âges.
a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and gross darkness, as the dawn spread upon the mountains; — a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after them, to the years of generations and generations.
3 Devant lui le feu dévore, et derrière lui la flamme embrase; le pays avant lui était comme un jardin d'Éden, et après lui c'est la désolation d'un désert, et rien ne lui échappe.
A fire devoureth before them, and behind them a flame burneth; the land is as a garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness: yea, and nothing escapeth them.
4 Tel l'aspect des chevaux, tel est son aspect, et ils courent comme des cavaliers.
The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so they run.
5 Avec le fracas des chars sur les cimes des montagnes ils bondissent; c'est le bruissement de la flamme du feu consumant le chaume; c'est une forte armée rangée en bataille.
Like the noise of chariots, on the tops of the mountains, they leap; like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.
6 Devant eux les peuples tremblent, et tous les visages pâlissent.
Before them the peoples are in anguish: all faces turn pale.
7 Ils courent comme des héros, comme des guerriers ils escaladent les murs; chacun d'eux suit sa route, et ils ne changent point l'ordre de leur marche;
They run like mighty men; they climb the wall like men of war; and they march every one on his ways, and break not their ranks.
8 ils ne se poussent point l'un l'autre, chacun suit sa voie, ils se précipitent à travers les traits, et ne rompent point leurs rangs;
Neither doth one press upon another; they march every one in his path; and fall amid weapons, but are not wounded.
9 ils parcourent la ville, grimpent aux murailles, envahissent les maisons, et entrent par les fenêtres comme le larron.
They spread themselves over the city; they run upon the wall; they climb up into the houses; they enter in by the windows like a thief.
10 Devant eux la terre tremble, les Cieux s'ébranlent, le soleil et la lune s'assombrissent, et les étoiles retirent leur éclat.
The earth quaketh before them; the heavens tremble; the sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining.
11 Et l'Éternel fait entendre sa voix devant son armée, car son camp est immense, et l'exécuteur de sa parole puissant; car grande est la journée de l'Éternel, et très redoutable: qui la soutiendrait?
And Jehovah uttereth his voice before his army; for his camp is very great; for strong is he that executeth his word: for the day of Jehovah is great and very terrible; and who can bear it?
12 Mais, encore à présent, dit l'Éternel, revenez à moi de tout votre cœur, et avec jeûne et avec larmes et gémissements!
Yet even now, saith Jehovah, turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning;
13 Déchirez vos cœurs et non vos vêtements, et revenez à l'Éternel votre Dieu, car Il est clément et pitoyable, patient et plein d'amour, et Il envoie les maux à regret.
and rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto Jehovah your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great loving-kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
14 Qui sait? Il reviendra peut-être et aura du regret, et laissera après lui des bénédictions, des offrandes et des libations pour l'Éternel votre Dieu.
Who knoweth? He might return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him, an oblation and a drink-offering for Jehovah your God?
15 Sonnez de la trompette en Sion! consacrez un jeûne! convoquez une assemblée!
Blow the trumpet in Zion, hallow a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly;
16 réunissez le peuple, formez une sainte convocation! assemblez les vieillards, réunissez les enfants et les nourrissons à la mamelle! que l'époux quitte sa chambre, et l'épouse son lit nuptial!
gather the people, hallow the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts; let the bridegroom go forth from his chamber, and the bride from her closet.
17 qu'entre le vestibule et l'autel pleurent les sacrificateurs, ministres de l'Éternel, et qu'ils disent: Éternel, épargne ton peuple, et ne livre pas ton patrimoine à l'opprobre, pour qu'il devienne la fable des peuples! pourquoi dirait-on parmi les nations: Où est leur Dieu?
Let the priests, the ministers of Jehovah, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare, O Jehovah, thy people, and give not thine inheritance to reproach, that they should be a byword of the nations. Wherefore should they say among the peoples, Where is their God?
18 Alors l'Éternel prendra de l'intérêt pour son pays et épargnera son peuple,
Then Jehovah will be jealous for his land, and will have pity on his people.
19 et l'Éternel répondra et dira à son peuple: Voici, je vous enverrai le blé et le moût et l'huile, et vous vous en rassasierez, et je ne vous livrerai plus à l'opprobre parmi les nations.
And Jehovah will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I send you corn, and new wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith; and I will no more make you a reproach among the nations.
20 J'éloignerai de vous cet ennemi du nord et le repousserai dans une terre aride et déserte, son avant-garde dans la mer d'orient, et son arrière-garde dans la mer d'occident, afin que son infection s'élève, et que sa puanteur s'élève, parce qu'ils se sont montrés si glorieux!
And I will remove far off from you him [that cometh] from the north, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, his face toward the eastern sea, and his rear toward the hinder sea; and his stench shall come up, and his ill odour shall come up, for he hath exalted himself to do great things.
21 N'aie point de peur, ô pays! sois dans l'allégresse et la joie! car l'Éternel se montrera glorieux!
— Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for Jehovah doeth great things.
22 N'ayez point de peur, bêtes des champs, car les pacages de la plaine verdiront, car les arbres donneront leurs fruits, le figuier et la vigne donneront leurs richesses.
Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring; for the tree beareth its fruit; the fig-tree and the vine yield full increase.
23 Et vous, enfants de Sion, réjouissez-vous, félicitez-vous de l'Éternel votre Dieu! car Il vous donnera un maître de justice, et Il vous enverra les flots de la pluie d'automne et de la pluie du printemps, à l'entrée de la saison.
And ye, children of Zion, be glad and rejoice in Jehovah your God; for he giveth you the early rain in due measure, and he causeth to come down for you the rain, the early rain, and the latter rain at the beginning [of the season].
24 Et les aires se rempliront de blé, et les cuves regorgeront de moût et d'huile;
And the floors shall be full of corn, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.
25 et je compenserai pour vous les années dévorées par la locuste, l'attelabe, la sauterelle et le bruche, ma grande armée envoyée par moi contre vous.
And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm, my great army which I sent among you.
26 Et vous mangerez et serez rassasiés, et vous louerez le nom de l'Éternel votre Dieu, qui aura fait pour vous des choses merveilleuses, et mon peuple ne sera plus confus, jamais.
And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of Jehovah your God, who hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
27 Et vous reconnaîtrez que je suis au milieu d'Israël, et que moi, l'Éternel, je suis votre Dieu, et qu'il n'y en a point d'autre, et mon peuple. ne sera plus confus, jamais.
And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I, Jehovah, [am] your God, and there is none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.
28 Et dans la suite il arrivera que je verserai mon Esprit sur toute chair, et vos fils et vos filles prophétiseront, et vos vieillards auront des songes et vos jeunes gens des visions;
And it shall come to pass afterwards [that] I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.
29 et aussi sur les serviteurs et les servantes en ces jours-là je verserai mon Esprit.
Yea, even upon the bondmen and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit.
30 Et je ferai paraître des prodiges dans les Cieux et sur la terre; il y aura du sang et du feu et des colonnes de fumée,
And I will shew wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 le soleil sera changé en ténèbres et la lune en sang, avant que vienne la journée de l'Éternel, la grande et redoutable journée.
The sun shall be changed to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and terrible day of Jehovah come.
32 Alors quiconque invoquera le nom de l'Éternel sera sauvé; car sur la montagne de Sion et à Jérusalem il y aura des réchappés, comme l'a dit l'Éternel, et parmi les survivants sera celui qui invoquera l'Éternel.
And it shall be that whosoever shall call upon the name of Jehovah shall be saved: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as Jehovah hath said, and for the residue whom Jehovah shall call.
