Job 5
1 Appelle donc! y aura-t-il quelqu'un qui te réponde? et auquel des Saints t'adresseras-tu?
Call now if there be any that will answer thee, and turn to some of the saints.
2 Non, le chagrin tue l'insensé, et le fou trouve la mort dans sa fureur.
Anger indeed killeth the foolish, and envy slayeth the little one.
3 J'ai vu l'insensé pousser des racines; mais soudain j'ai dû dire sa maison maudite:
I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I cursed his beauty immediately.
4 ses enfants étaient loin de secours, on les foulait aux Portes, et point de sauveur!
His children shall be far from safety, and shall be destroyed in the gate, and there shall be none to deliver them.
5 L'affamé mangea ses moissons, et jusqu'entre les haies alla les saisir, et des hommes altérés engloutirent ses biens.
Whose harvest the hungry shall eat, and the armed man shall take him by violence, and the thirsty shall drink up his riches.
6 Car les maux ne sortent point de terre, et sur le sol le malheur ne croît pas;
Nothing upon earth is done without a voice cause, and sorrow doth not spring out of the ground.
7 mais l'homme est né pour le malheur, comme l'étincelle pour s'élever et voler.
Man is born to labour and the bird to fly.
8 Mais pour moi, je m'adresserais à Dieu, et j'exposerais ma cause au Seigneur.
Wherefore I will pray to the Lord, and address my speech to God:
9 Il fait des choses grandes, insondables, merveilleuses, innombrables;
Who doth great things and unsearchable and wonderful things without number:
10 Il répand la pluie sur la terre, et envoie ses eaux sur les campagnes;
Who giveth rain upon the face of the earth, and watereth all things with waters:
11 Il place en haut lieu les hommes abaissés, et les affligés atteignent le salut;
Who setteth up the humble on high, and comforteth with health those that mourn.
12 Il rompt les complots des gens rusés, pour que leurs mains n'exécutent pas leurs plans;
Who bringeth to nought the designs of the malignant, so that their hands cannot accomplish what they had begun:
13 Il prend les habiles dans leurs ruses, et le projet des astucieux est déjoué;
Who catcheth the wise in their craftiness, and disappointeth the counsel of the wicked:
14 de jour ils heurtent contre les ténèbres, et comme dans la nuit ils tâtonnent à midi.
They shall meet with darkness in the day, and grope at noonday as in the night.
15 Ainsi sauve-t-il de l'épée de leur bouche, et de la main du puissant, le misérable;
But he shall save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent.
16 et il y a pour le faible une espérance, et leur méchanceté a la bouche fermée.
And to the needy there shall he hope, but iniquity shall draw in her mouth.
17 Voici, heureux l'homme que Dieu châtie!… Mais ne repousse pas la correction du Seigneur!
Blessed is the mall whom God correcteth: refuse not therefore the chastising of the lord:
18 car Il blesse, et bande la plaie, Il brise, et ses mains guérissent:
For he woundeth, and cureth: he striketh, and his hands shall heal.
19 dans six détresses, Il est ton libérateur, et dans sept, le mal ne t'atteindra pas;
In six troubles he shall deliver thee, and in the seventh, evil shall not touch thee.
20 durant la famine, Il te sauve de la mort, et durant la guerre, des coups de l'épée;
In famine he shall deliver thee from death: and in battle, from the hand of the sword.
21 au fouet de la langue tu seras dérobé, tu n'auras point peur du désastre, s'il arrive;
Thou shalt he hidden from the scourge of the tongue: and thou shalt not fear calamity when it cometh.
22 tu te riras du désastre et de la famine, et tu ne redouteras point les bêtes de la terre;
In destruction and famine then shalt laugh: and thou shalt not be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
23 car tu as un pacte avec les pierres des champs, et les bêtes des champs sont en paix avec toi.
But thou shalt have a covenant with the stones of the lands, and the beasts of the earth shall be at pence with thee.
24 Alors tu éprouveras que ta tente n'est que paix, et en visitant ta demeure, tu ne seras point trompé,
And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle is in peace, and visiting thy beauty thou shalt not sin.
25 et tu éprouveras que ta race est nombreuse, et ta postérité comme l'herbe de la terre;
Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be multiplied, and thy offspring like the grass of the earth.
26 tu descendras au sépulcre dans une verte vieillesse, ainsi que s'élève le tas des gerbes, quand c'en est la saison.
Thou shalt enter into the grave in abundance, as a heap of wheat is brought in its season.
27 Voilà ce que nous avons approfondi: il en est ainsi; entends-le, et fais-en ton profit.
Behold, this is even so, as we have searched out: which thou having heard, consider it thoroughly in thy mind.
