Job 40
1 Puis l'Éternel s'adressant à Job lui dit:
And Jehovah answered Job and said,
2 Le censeur prend-il encore le Tout-puissant à partie? Que l'accusateur de Dieu réponde maintenant!
Shall he that will contend with the Almighty instruct [him]? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
3 Et Job répondit à l'Éternel et dit:
And Job answered Jehovah and said,
4 Voici, je suis trop chétif, que répliquerais-je? Je mets ma main sur ma bouche.
Behold, I am nought: what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.
5 J'ai parlé une fois, je ne répondrai pas, une seconde fois, et je ne le ferai plus.
Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; yea twice, but I will proceed no further.
6 Et l'Éternel répondit à Job du milieu de la tempête et dit:
And Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
7 Allons! ceins tes reins, comme un homme! Je t'interrogerai, et tu m'instruiras!
Gird up now thy loins like a man: I will demand of thee, and inform thou me.
8 Penses-tu à déchirer aussi mes arrêts, à me condamner, pour paraître innocent?
Wilt thou also annul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me that thou mayest be righteous?
9 Ou bien as-tu un bras comme Dieu, et de la voix comme Lui peux-tu tonner?
Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
10 Eh bien! revêts donc l'éclat et la grandeur! pare-toi de la gloire et de la magnificence!
Deck thyself now with glory and excellency, and clothe thyself with majesty and splendour.
11 Epanche les flots de ta colère, Et d'un regard terrasse tous les superbes!
Cast abroad the ragings of thine anger, and look on every one that is proud, and abase him:
12 D'un regard abats le superbe, et écrase les impies sur la place!
Look on every one that is proud, bring him low, and tread down the wicked in their place:
13 Abîme-les tous dans la poudre, et cache leurs fronts dans les ténèbres!
Hide them in the dust together; bind their faces in secret.
14 Alors de mon côté je pourrai te louer de ce qu'en ta main tu trouves des ressources.
Then will I also praise thee, because thy right hand saveth thee.
15 Vois le Béhémoth que je créai comme toi! Ainsi que le bœuf, il broute l'herbe.
See now the behemoth, which I made with thee: he eateth grass as an ox.
16 Vois la force qu'il a dans ses reins, et la vigueur qu'il a dans les muscles de sa panse.
Behold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the muscles of his belly.
17 Il replie sa queue [roide] comme un cèdre; les tendons de ses flancs sont entrelacés;
He bendeth his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are woven together.
18 ses os sont des tubes d'airain, et ses jambes, des barres de fer.
His bones are tubes of bronze, his members are like bars of iron.
19 Il est le chef-d'œuvre de Dieu; son Créateur l'arma du glaive
He is the chief of God's ways: he that made him gave him his sword.
20 dont il fauche sa pâture sur les monts, où folâtrent toutes les bêtes des champs.
For the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21 Il se couche sous les feuilles du lotus, et les joncs et le marécage lui donnent un abri.
He lieth under lotus-bushes, in the covert of the reed and fen:
22 Pour lui le lotus entrelace son ombrage, les saules de la rivière l'environnent.
Lotus-bushes cover him with their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.
23 Voici, que le fleuve se soulève, il n'a point peur; il prend plutôt de l'assurance, quand un Jourdain bouillonne jusqu'à sa bouche.
Lo, the river overfloweth — he startleth not: he is confident though a Jordan break forth against his mouth.
24 Peut-on, pour le prendre, tromper son regard, ou percer son naseau pour l'enchaîner?
Shall he be taken in front? will they pierce through [his] nose in the trap?
