Job 21
1 Et Job répondit et dit:
Bvt Iob answered, and sayd,
2 Ecoutez, écoutez mon discours, et donnez-moi cette consolation-là!
Heare diligently my wordes, and this shalbe in stead of your consolations.
3 Souffrez que je parle, et, quand j'aurai parlé, tu pourras te moquer!
Suffer mee, that I may speake, and when I haue spoken, mocke on.
4 Est-ce à l'homme qu'en veut ma plainte? Et pourquoi la patience ne m'échapperait-elle pas?
Doe I direct my talke to man? If it were so, how should not my spirit be troubled?
5 Tournez les yeux vers moi, et vous serez stupéfaits, et vous mettrez la main sur la bouche!
Marke mee, and be abashed, and lay your hand vpon your mouth.
6 Quand j'y pense, je me trouble, et ma chair frissonne.
Euen when I remember, I am afrayde, and feare taketh hold on my flesh.
7 Pourquoi les impies vivent-ils, avancent-ils en âge, accroissent-ils leurs moyens?
Wherefore do the wicked liue, and waxe olde, and grow in wealth?
8 Devant eux, autour d'eux, leur race s'affermit, et leurs rejetons réjouissent leurs regards.
Their seede is established in their sight with them, and their generation before their eyes.
9 Leurs maisons sont en paix, à l'abri de la crainte, et la verge de Dieu ne passe point sur eux.
Their houses are peaceable without feare, and the rod of God is not vpon them.
10 Leur taureau saillit, et n'est point impuissant, leur génisse vêle, et n'avorte point.
Their bullocke gendreth, and fayleth not: their cow calueth, and casteth not her calfe.
11 Ils promènent leur famille qui égale un troupeau, et leurs enfants s'ébattent.
They send forth their children like sheepe, and their sonnes dance.
12 Ils chantent au son des cymbales et du luth, et s'égaient au bruit de la cornemuse.
They take the tabret and harpe, and reioyce in the sound of the organs.
13 Ils emploient leurs jours à jouir, et la descente aux Enfers est pour eux l'affaire d'un instant. (Sheol h7585)
They spend their dayes in wealth, and suddenly they go downe to the graue. (Sheol h7585)
14 Cependant ils disent à Dieu: « Retire-toi de nous! et pour la science de tes voies nous n'avons aucun goût.
They say also vnto God, Depart from vs: for we desire not the knowledge of thy wayes.
15 Qu'est-ce que le Tout-puissant, pour que nous le servions? et que gagnerions-nous à le prier? »
Who is the Almightie, that we should serue him? and what profit should we haue, if we should pray vnto him?
16 Voici, n'ont-ils pas leur bonheur en leurs mains? (Loin de moi les principes des impies!)
Lo, their wealth is not in their hand: therfore let the counsell of the wicked bee farre from me.
17 Combien de fois arrive-t-il que la lampe des impies s'éteigne, et que leur ruine fonde sur eux; que Dieu leur distribue leurs lots dans sa colère;
How oft shall the candle of the wicked be put out? and their destruction come vpon them? he wil deuide their liues in his wrath.
18 qu'ils soient comme le chaume au souffle du vent, ou comme la balle qu'enlève l'ouragan?
They shall be as stubble before the winde, and as chaffe that the storme carieth away.
19 C'est à ses fils que Dieu réserve la misère! C'est lui que Dieu devrait punir, afin qu'il en pâtit;
God wil lay vp the sorowe of the father for his children: when he rewardeth him, hee shall knowe it.
20 c'est lui qui de ses yeux devrait contempler sa chute, et être abreuvé du courroux du Tout-puissant!
His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drinke of the wrath of the Almightie.
21 Car, que lui fait sa maison après lui, quand le terme de ses jours est échu?
For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the nomber of his moneths is cut off?
22 Est-ce à Dieu qu'on veut révéler la science, à lui qui juge les Intelligences célestes?
Shall any teache God knowledge, who iudgeth the highest things?
23 L'un meurt au sein même du bien-être, dans une sécurité et une paix complète;
One dyeth in his full strength, being in all ease and prosperitie.
24 ses bergeries sont remplies de lait, et la moelle de ses os est toujours rafraîchie.
His breasts are full of milke, and his bones runne full of marowe.
25 Et l'autre meurt, l'amertume dans l'âme, et il n'a point goûté le bonheur.
And another dieth in the bitternes of his soule, and neuer eateth with pleasure.
26 Ensemble ils sont gisants dans la poudre, et les vers les recouvrent.
They shall sleepe both in the dust, and the wormes shall couer them.
27 Voici, je sais quelles sont vos pensées, et les jugements qu'à tort vous portez sur moi!
Behold, I know your thoughts, and the enterprises, wherewith ye do me wrong.
28 Car vous dites: « Où est la maison de l'homme puissant, et la tente où habitaient les impies? »
For ye say, Where is the princes house? and where is the tabernacle of the wickeds dwelling?
29 N'avez-vous pas interrogé les voyageurs? et ne vous rendrez-vous pas aux preuves qu'ils rapportent?
May ye not aske the that go by the way? and ye can not deny their signes.
30 C'est qu'au jour de la ruine, l'impie est préservé, et qu'au jour des vengeances, il est conduit en lieu sûr.
But the wicked is kept vnto the day of destruction, and they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
31 Qui est-ce qui lui reproche en face sa conduite, et qui est-ce qui lui rend ce qu'il a fait?
Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall reward him for that he hath done?
32 Il est porté au tombeau, et il veille encore sur le tertre.
Yet shall he be brought to the graue, and remaine in the heape.
33 La terre de la vallée pèse doucement sur lui; après lui tous les hommes vont à la file, et ses devanciers sont innombrables.
The slimie valley shalbe sweete vnto him, and euery man shall draw after him, as before him there were innumerable.
34 Comment pouvez-vous donc m'offrir des consolations si vaines? De vos réponses, ce qui reste, c'est la perfidie.
How then comfort ye me in vaine, seeing in your answeres there remaine but lyes?
