Jérémie 7
1 La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l'Éternel, en ces mots:
The word that came unto Jeremiah, from Yahweh saying: —
2 Tiens-toi dans la porte de la maison de l'Éternel, et proclames-y ces paroles, et dis: Écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, vous tous les hommes de Juda, qui entrez par ces portes pour adorer l'Éternel!
Stand thou in the gate of the house of Yahweh, and thou shalt proclaim there this word, —and shalt say—Hear ye the word of Yahweh all Judah ye who are entering in at these gates, to bow down unto Yahweh:
3 Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Amendez votre conduite et vos œuvres, et je vous ferai habiter en ce lieu.
Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts God of Israel, Amend your ways, and your doings, —That I may cause you to dwell in this place.
4 Ne vous fiez pas aux mensonges de ceux qui disent: C'est ici le Temple de l'Éternel, le Temple de l'Éternel, le Temple de l'Éternel!
Do not, on your part trust in false words, saying, —The temple of Yahweh The temple of Yahweh, The temple of Yahweh they are!
5 Car, si vous amendez votre conduite et vos œuvres, si vous exercez la justice à l'égard des uns et des autres,
But, if ye shall thoroughly amend, your ways, and your doings, —Shall thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbour;
6 si vous n'opprimez pas l'étranger, la veuve et l'orphelin, si vous ne répandez pas le sang innocent dans ce lieu, et si vous n'allez pas après d'autres dieux à votre détriment,
The sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, shall not oppress, And innocent blood, shall not shed in this place, —And after other gods, shall not walk to your own hurt,
7 alors je vous ferai habiter en ce lieu dans ce pays que je donnai à vos pères, de l'éternité à l'éternité.
Then will I cause you to dwell In this place, In the land which I gave to your fathers, —From one age even unto another,
8 Voici, vous avez confiance en des mensonges qui ne profitent pas.
Lo! ye, on your part, are trusting in false words, —To no profit!
9 Quoi! dérober, tuer, commettre adultère, faire des faux serments, encenser Baal, aller après d'autres dieux que vous ne connaissez pas!…
Are ye to steal, commit murder and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, —and walk after other gods whom ye have not known;
10 et puis vous venez et vous vous présentez devant moi dans cette maison appelée de mon nom, et vous dites: « Nous sommes sauvés!… » avec l'intention de commettre toutes ces abominations.
And will ye then come in and stand before me in this house whereon my Name hath been called, and say, —We have set ourselves free, —for the purpose of committing all these abominations?
11 Est-elle une caverne de voleurs, cette maison appelée de mon nom, à vos yeux? Je le vois moi-même, dit l'Éternel.
A den of robbers, hath this house on which my Name hath been called become in your own eyes? I, also, —lo! I have seen it Declareth Yahweh.
12 Mais allez donc à ma résidence qui fut à Silo, où je faisais habiter mon nom jadis, et voyez comment je l'ai traitée à cause de la méchanceté de mon peuple d'Israël.
For go I pray you, unto my place which was in Shiloh, Where I made my Name to dwell, at first, —And see what I did to it, because of the wickedness of my people Israel!
13 Or maintenant, puisque vous avez fait toutes ces actions, dit l'Éternel, et que je vous ai parlé dès le matin, et que vous n'avez pas écouté, et que je vous ai appelés, et que vous n'avez pas répondu,
Now, therefore—Because ye have done all these deeds Declareth Yahweh, —And though I spake unto you betimes speaking, Yet ye hearkened not, And though I cried unto you Yet ye answered not,
14 je traiterai cette maison appelée de mon nom, sur laquelle vous vous fiez, et le pays que je donnai à vous et à vos pères, comme j'ai traité Silo,
Therefore will I do to the house Whereon my Name hath been called Wherein, ye, are trusting, Even to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, —Just as I did unto Shiloh;
15 et je vous chasserai de ma présence, comme j'en ai chassé tous vos frères, toute la race d'Éphraïm.
And will cast you out from before me, —Just as I have cast out All your brethren, All the seed of Ephraim.
16 Mais toi, ne prie pas pour ce peuple, et ne m'adresse pour eux ni supplique, ni prière, et ne me fais point d'instances; car je ne t'écouterai pas.
Thou, therefore—Do not pray for this people Neither lift up for them cry or prayer Neither intercede with me, —For I am not going to hear thee.
17 Ne vois-tu pas ce qu'ils font dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem?
Dost thou not see what, they, are doing In the cities of Judah, —and In the streets of Jerusalem?
18 Les enfants ramassent du bois, et les pères allument le feu, et les femmes pétrissent la pâte pour faire des gâteaux à la reine des Cieux, et répandre des libations en l'honneur des dieux étrangers, afin de me causer du déplaisir.
The children, gather wood, and The fathers, kindle the fire, and The women, knead dough, —To make sacrificial cakes to the queen of the heavens, And to pour out drink-offerings to other gods, Provoking me to anger!
19 Est-ce à moi qu'ils causent le déplaisir? dit l'Éternel; n'est-ce pas à eux-mêmes, afin d'avoir la honte sur leurs fronts?
Is it me, they are provoking? Enquireth Yahweh, —Is it not themselves, —unto the shame of their own faces?
20 C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Ma colère et ma fureur s'épancheront sur ce lieu, sur l'homme et sur le bétail, sur les arbres de la campagne et sur les fruits de la terre: elle brûlera, et ne s'éteindra point.
Wherefore, Thus, saith My Lord Yahweh—Lo! mine anger and mine indignation, are about to be poured out upon this place, On man and on beast, and On the tree of the field and On the fruit of the ground, —And it shall burn and shall not be quenched.
21 Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Ajoutez vos holocaustes à vos sacrifices, et mangez-en la chair!…
Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts God of Israel, —Your ascending-offerings, add ye unto your peace-offerings and eat ye flesh.
22 Car je n'adressai à vos pères, le jour où je les tirai du pays d'Egypte, ni parole ni ordre quant à des holocaustes et à des sacrifices.
For I bade not your fathers Neither commanded I them, In the day I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, —Concerning the matter of ascending-offering and peace-offering;
23 Mais voici l'ordre que je leur donnai, et ce que je dis: Obéissez à ma voix, et je serai votre Dieu, et vous serez mon peuple, et suivez en plein la voie que je vous trace, afin d'avoir le bonheur.
But, this thing, I commanded them—saying, Hearken ye unto my voice, So will I become unto you—a God, And, ye, shall become unto me—a people, —Ye shall therefore walk in all the way that I may command you, To the end it may be well with you;
24 Mais ils n'obéirent point, et ne prêtèrent point l'oreille; et ils marchèrent en suivant les conseils et l'obstination de leur cœur mauvais, et ils me présentèrent le dos et non pas le visage.
Yet they hearkened not Neither inclined their ear, But walked, In the counsels—In the stubbornness of their own wicked heart; And went backward, and not forward.
25 Du jour où vos pères sortirent du pays d'Egypte jusqu'aujourd'hui, je vous déléguai tous mes serviteurs, les prophètes, journellement, dès le matin;
Ever since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt, until this day, Have I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, Daily, betimes, sending them;
26 mais ils n'ont ni entendu, ni prêté l'oreille; ils roidirent leur col, et ils firent pis que leurs pères.
Yet they hearkened not unto me, Neither inclined their ear, —But stiffened their neck, They did more wickedly than their fathers.
27 Dis-leur toutes ces paroles! ils ne t'écouteront point; et crie-leur! ils ne te répondront pas.
Therefore shalt thou speak unto them all these words, Though they do not hearken unto thee, —And thou shalt cry aloud unto them Though they do not answer thee; —
28 Alors tu leur diras: C'est ici le peuple qui n'a point obéi à la voix de l'Éternel son Dieu, et n'a pas reçu la correction; la vérité est disparue, elle est bannie de leur bouche.
But thou shalt say unto them, —This, is the nation that hearkened not unto the voice of Yahweh its God, Neither accepted they correction, —Perished is fidelity, And is cut off out of their mouth.
29 Rase ta chevelure, [Jérusalem], et jette-la; et du haut des collines élève ta complainte! car l'Éternel a rejeté et réprouvé la génération, objet de sa colère;
Cut thou off thy crown of hair [O Jerusalem], and cast it away, And lift thou up on the bare heights, a dirge, —For Yahweh hath rejected and cast out the generation with which he was wroth.
30 car les enfants de Juda ont fait ce qui est mal à mes yeux, dit l'Éternel; ils ont placé leurs infâmes idoles dans la maison appelée de mon nom, pour la souiller;
For the sons of Judah, have done, that which was wicked in mine eyes, Declareth Yahweh, —They have set their abominations in the house whereon my Name hath been called to defile it;
31 et ils ont élevé les tertres de Topheth dans la vallée des fils de Hinnom, pour brûler au feu leurs fils et leurs filles, ce que je n'avais point commandé, et qui n'était point venu dans ma pensée.
And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, To burn up their sons and their daughters in the fire, —Which I commanded not, Neither came it up on my heart,
32 Aussi, voici, des jours viennent, dit l'Éternel, où l'on ne dira plus Topheth, ni vallée des fils de Hinnom, mais vallée du carnage, et on enterrera à Topheth faute de place,
Therefore, lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh, When it shall not be called any more—The Topheth, nor The valley of Ben-hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter, —And they shall bury in Topheth, for want of place;
33 et les cadavres de ce peuple seront la pâture des oiseaux des Cieux et des bêtes de la terre, que personne n'effarouchera,
And the dead bodies of this people shall become food, For the bird of the heavens, and For the beast of the earth, —And there shall be none to drive them away.
34 et je ferai cesser dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem les chants de réjouissance et les chants d'allégresse, les chants du fiancé et les chants de la fiancée; car le pays sera une solitude.
So will I cause to cease, From the cities of Judah, and, From the streets of Jerusalem, The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, The voice of the bridegroom, and The voice of the bride, —For, a desolation, shall the land become.
