Jérémie 48
1 Contre Moab. Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Malheur à Nébo, car elle est ravagée! Kiriathaïm est honteuse et conquise; Misgab est honteuse et atterrée.
Of Moab. "Thus says YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: 'Woe to Nebo, because it is about to be destroyed; Kiriathaim will be put to shame, it will be taken captive. The fortress is put to shame and broken down.
2 Elle n'est plus, la gloire de Moab; à Hesbon on forme contre elle des plans funestes: « Venez, et retranchons-la du nombre des nations! » Toi aussi, Madmène, tu seras détruite; derrière toi l'épée marche.
The praise of Moab is no more; in Heshbon they have devised evil against her: "Come, and let us cut her off from being a nation." You also, Madmen, shall be brought to silence: the sword shall pursue you.
3 Une voix plaintive part de Choronaïm: il y a ruine et grand désastre.
The sound of a cry from Horonaim, "destruction and great calamity."
4 Moab est écrasée; les petits y font retentir leurs cris;
Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.
5 car sur la montée de Luchith les pleurs montent avec les pleurs, et sur la pente de Choronaïm on entend les cris angoissés de la détresse.
For by the ascent of Luhith with continual weeping shall they go up; for at the descent of Horonaim they have heard the distress of the cry of destruction.
6 Fuyez, sauvez votre vie, et soyez comme un homme nu dans le désert!
"Flee, save your lives, and be like a shrub in the wilderness."
7 Car, à cause de ta confiance en tes gains et tes trésors, toi aussi, tu seras conquise, et Camos s'en ira captif, et ses prêtres et ses princes avec lui.
For, because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you also shall be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity, his priests and his officials together.
8 Et le dévastateur fond sur toutes les villes, et aucune ville n'échappe; la vallée est ruinée, et la plaine dévastée, comme l'Éternel l'a prononcé.
The destroyer shall come on every city, and no city shall escape; the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed; as YHWH has spoken.
9 Donnez des ailes à Moab, qu'elle parte au vol! et ses villes seront désolées, dépeuplées.
Give wings to Moab, that she may fly and get her away: and her cities shall become a desolation, without any to dwell in them.'
10 Malédiction à celui qui exécute l'œuvre de l'Éternel infidèlement, et malédiction à celui qui du sang sèvre son glaive!
Cursed is he who does the work of YHWH negligently; and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.
11 Dès sa jeunesse Moab fut tranquille, et elle reposait sur ses lies, et ne fut pas transvasée de vase en vase, et elle ne fut point emmenée captive; aussi conserva-t-elle son goût, et son parfum ne fut point altéré.
'Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his lees, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remains in him, and his scent is not changed.
12 C'est pourquoi, voici, des jours viennent, dit l'Éternel, où je lui enverrai des brasseurs qui remueront et videront ses vases, et briseront ses cruches.
Therefore look, the days come,' says YHWH, 'that I will send to him those who pour off, and they shall pour him off; and they shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles in pieces.
13 Et Moab sera confuse à cause de Camos, comme la maison d'Israël fut confuse à cause de Béthel, l'objet de sa confiance.
Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.
14 Comment diriez-vous: Nou sommes des héros, et de vaillants guerriers?
How can you say, "We are mighty men, and valiant men for the war?"
15 Moab est saccagée, et ses villes montent [en fumée], et l'élite de ses jeunes hommes descend à la tuerie, dit le Roi dont l'Éternel des armées est le nom.
Moab is laid waste, and they are gone up into his cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter,' says the King, whose name is YHWH of hosts.
16 La ruine de Moab est près d'arriver, et son désastre vient en grande hâte.
The calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hurries fast.
17 Plaignez-la, vous tous ses voisins, et vous tous qui connaissez son nom, dites: Comment a été brisé le bâton de la puissance, le sceptre de la majesté?
All you who are around him, bemoan him, and all you who know his name; say, "How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful rod."
18 Descends de ta gloire, et t'assieds sur la terre aride, habitante, fille de Dibon! car le dévastateur de Moab monte contre toi, pour détruire tes forteresses.
You daughter who dwells in Dibon, come down from your glory, and sit in thirst; for the destroyer of Moab has come up against you, he has destroyed your strongholds.
19 Tiens-toi sur le chemin, et regarde, habitante d'Aroër! interroge le fugitif et celle qui s'échappe, et dis: Qu'est-il arrivé?
Inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and watch: ask him who flees, and her who escapes; say, "What has been done?"
20 Moab est dans la honte, car elle est atterrée; gémissez et criez, publiez sur l'Arnon que Moab est détruite!
"Moab is disappointed; for it is broken down: wail and cry; tell it by the Arnon, that Moab is laid waste."
21 Et le jugement est venu sur le pays de la plaine, sur Holon, et sur Jahtsa, et sur Méphaath,
Judgment has come on the plain country, on Holon, and on Jahzah, and on Mephaath,
22 et sur Dibon, et sur Nébo, et sur Beth-Diblathaïm,
and on Dibon, and on Nebo, and on Beth Diblathaim,
23 et sur Kiriathaïm, et sur Beth-Gamoul, et sur Beth-Maon,
and on Kiriathaim, and on Beth Gamul, and on Beth Meon,
24 et sur Kérioth, et sur Botsra, et sur toutes les villes du pays de Moab éloignées et proches.
and on Kerioth, and on Bozrah, and on all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near.
25 La corne de Moab est abattue, et son bras est brisé, dit l'Éternel.
The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken,' says YHWH.
26 Frappez-la d'enivrement, car elle s'éleva contre l'Éternel! et que Moab s'agite dans son vomissement, et soit, elle aussi, livrée à la risée!
'Make him drunk; for he magnified himself against YHWH: and Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.
27 Et Israël ne fut-il pas ta risée? Parmi les voleurs avait-il été surpris, que, parlant de lui, tu hoches incessamment la tête?
For wasn't Israel a derision to you? Was he found among thieves? For as often as you speak of him, you shake your head.
28 Abandonnez les villes, et logez-vous sur les rochers, habitants de Moab, et soyez comme la colombe qui niche à l'entrée de la caverne!
You inhabitants of Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock; and be like the dove that makes her nest over the mouth of the abyss.
29 Nous avons ouï parler de l'orgueil de Moab, qui est très altière, et de sa hauteur, et de son orgueil, et de sa fierté, et de son cœur superbe.
We have heard of the pride of Moab--he is very proud--of his pride, and his vanity, and his arrogance, and the haughtiness of his heart.
30 Je connais, dit l'Éternel, son arrogance et son vain parler; ils ont vécu dans la vanité.
I know his wrath,' says YHWH, 'that it is nothing; his boastings have worked nothing.
31 Aussi je me lamente sur Moab, et pour tout Moab je soupire; sur les hommes de Kir-Charès on gémit.
therefore I will wail for Moab; yes, I will cry out for all Moab; I will mourn for the men of Kir Heres.
32 Vigne de Sibma, je verse sur toi plus de larmes que sur Jaëser; tes pampres ont traversé la mer, et pénétré jusqu'à la mer de Jaëser; le dévastateur fond sur ta moisson et sur ta vendange.
With more than the weeping of Jazer will I weep for you, vine of Sibmah: your branches passed over the sea, they reached even to Jazer; on your summer fruits and on your vintage the destroyer is fallen.
33 La joie et la gaieté sont bannies des vergers et de la terre de Moab; je fais tarir le vin dans les pressoirs; on ne foule plus le raisin au milieu des cris d'allégresse; c'est cri de guerre, et non plus cri de joie.
Gladness and joy is taken away from the fruitful field and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to cease from the wine presses: none shall tread with shouting; the shouting shall be no shouting.
34 Depuis Hesbon qui gémit jusqu'à Elealé, à Jahats ils font retentir leurs voix; de Tsoar à Choronaïm, à Eglath-Schelischia; car les eaux de Nimrim sont aussi désolées.
From the cry of Heshbon even to Elealeh, even to Jahaz have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even to Horonaim, to Eglath Shelishiyah: for the waters of Nimrim also shall become desolate.
35 Je retrancherai en Moab, dit l'Éternel, ceux qui sacrifient sur les hauteurs et encensent ses dieux.
And I will cause to cease in Moab,' says YHWH, 'the one who offers sacrifice upon the high place, and the one who burns incense to his gods.
36 C'est pourquoi mon cœur, comme la flûte, gémit sur Moab; et sur les hommes de Kir-Charès, mon cœur, comme la flûte, gémit; c'est pourquoi les trésors qu'ils ont acquis, périront.
Therefore my heart sounds for Moab like pipes, and my heart sounds like pipes for the men of Kir Heres: therefore the abundance that he has gotten is perished.
37 Car toute tête devient chauve, et toute barbe est coupée, toutes les mains portent des incisions, et tous les reins le cilice.
For every head is bald, and every beard clipped: on all the hands are cuttings, and on the waist sackcloth.
38 Sur tous les toits de Moab et dans toutes ses rues, tout mène deuil, parce que j'ai brisé Moab comme un vase qui déplaît, dit l'Éternel.
On all the housetops of Moab and in its streets there is lamentation every where; for I have broken Moab like a vessel in which none delights,' says YHWH.
39 Comme elle est abattue! Gémissez! Comme Moab tourne le dos dans son opprobre! Et Moab devient la risée et l'épouvante de tous ses alentours.
How it is broken down. How they wail. How Moab has turned the back with shame. So shall Moab become a derision and a terror to all who are around him.'
40 Car ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, comme l'aigle, il vole et déploie ses ailes sur Moab.
For thus says YHWH: 'Look, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread out his wings against Moab.
41 Kérioth est conquise, et ses forts sont pris; et le cœur des héros de Moab en ce jour sera comme le cœur de la femme en travail.
Kerioth is taken, and the strongholds are seized, and the heart of the mighty men of Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
42 Et Moab sera exterminée du milieu des nations, car elle s'est insurgée contre l'Éternel.
Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he has magnified himself against YHWH.
43 Terreur, et fosse, et filet devant toi, habitant de Moab! dit l'Éternel.
Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are on you, inhabitant of Moab, says YHWH.
44 Échappé à la terreur, on tombera dans la fosse, et si l'on se tire de la fosse, on sera pris dans le filet. Car je fais venir sur elle, sur Moab, le temps de son châtiment, dit l'Éternel.
He who flees from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he who gets up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring on him, even on Moab, the year of their visitation,' says YHWH.
45 A l'ombre de Hesbon les fuyards se tiennent languissants; car un feu sort de Hesbon, et une flamme du milieu de Sihon, et elle dévore la contrée de Moab, et le crâne des fils du tumulte.
'Those who fled stand without strength under the shadow of Heshbon; for a fire has gone forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the city of Sihon, and it has destroyed the forehead of Moab, and the crown of the sons of tumult.
46 Malheur à toi, Moab! c'en est fait du peuple de Camos! car tes fils sont emmenés captifs, et tes filles captives.
Woe to you, O Moab. The people of Chemosh is undone; for your sons are taken away captive, and your daughters into captivity.
47 Mais je ramènerai les captifs de Moab dans la suite des temps, dit l'Éternel. Tel est le jugement de Moab.
Yet will I bring back the captivity of Moab in the latter days,' says YHWH. Thus far is the judgment of Moab."
