Jérémie 16
1 Et ta parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:
And the word of Yahweh came unto me saying:
2 Ne prends point femme et n'aie ni fils ni filles dans ce lieu-ci.
Thou shall not take to thee a wife, —Neither shalt thou have sons or daughters, in this place.
3 Car ainsi prononce l'Éternel sur les fils et les filles qui naissent en ce lieu, et sur leurs mères qui les enfantent, et sur leurs pères qui les engendrent dans ce pays-ci:
For, Thus, saith Yahweh, Concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are being born in this place, —and concerning their mothers who do bear them, and concerning their fathers who do beget them, in this land,
4 Ils mourront de maladies douloureuses; on ne leur donnera ni larmes, ni sépulture, ils seront du fumier sur les champs, et ils périront par l'épée et la famine, et leurs cadavres seront la pâture des oiseaux du ciel et des bêtes de la terre.
Of deaths from diseases, shall they die, They shall not be lamented, Neither shall they be buried, As heaps of dung on the face of the ground, shall they serve, —Yea by sword and by famine, shall they be consumed, And, their dead bodies shall become, food—To the bird of the heavens, and To the beast of the earth.
5 Car ainsi parle l'Éternel: N'entre point dans la maison de deuil et ne va point te lamenter, ni compatir avec eux, car j'ai ôté mon salut à ce peuple, dit l'Éternel, mon amour et mes miséricordes.
For, Thus, saith Yahweh—Do not thou enter into the house of crying, Neither do thou go to lament, nor do thou bemoan for them, —For I have withdrawn my blessing from this people, Declareth Yahweh, Both lovingkindness and compassion.
6 Et ils mourront, grands et petits, dans ce pays; pour eux il n'y aura point de sépulture, point de deuil, point d'incisions, point de cheveux coupés;
So shall great and small die in this land, They shall not be buried, —Neither shall men lament for them Nor cut themselves, Nor make themselves bald for them;
7 on ne leur rompra point le pain dans le deuil en consolation du mort, et on ne leur offrira point la coupe de consolation pour leur père et leur mère.
Neither shall they break bread to them in mourning To console one over his dead, —Nor cause them to drink the cup of consolation, Over one’s father Or over one’s mother;
8 N'entre point non plus dans le lieu du festin pour y prendre place avec eux, pour manger et pour boire.
And the house of banqueting, shall thou not enter To sit with them, To eat and to drink.
9 Car ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je ferai cesser en ce lieu, sous vos yeux et de votre vivant, les chants de joie et les chants d'allégresse, les chants du fiancé et les chants de la fiancée.
For, Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, Behold me! causing to cease out of this place, Before your eyes, And in your days, The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, The voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride,
10 Et quand tu annonceras à ce peuple toutes ces choses, et qu'ils te diront: Pourquoi l'Éternel nous menace-t-Il de tous ces grands maux? quel est notre crime, et quel est le péché que nous avons commis contre l'Éternel, notre Dieu?
And it shall be when thou shalt declare to this people, all these words, —and they shall say unto thee—For what reason, hath Yahweh pronounced against us all this great calamity? Or what is our iniquity, or what our sin, which we have sinned against Yahweh our God?
11 dis-leur: C'est que vos pères m'ont abandonné, dit l'Éternel, et sont allés après d'autres dieux, et les ont servis, et les ont adorés, et m'ont abandonné, et n'ont point gardé ma loi,
Then shalt thou say unto them, —For that your fathers forsook, me, Declareth Yahweh, And walked after other gods, and served them, and bowed down to them, —Whereas me, they forsook And my law, kept they not;
12 et que vous faites pis que vos pères, et que, voici, vous suivez chacun l'obstination de votre cœur mauvais, pour ne me point écouter.
And, ye, have done more wickedly than your fathers, —for look at you! walking every man after the stubbornness of his wicked heart, so as not to hearken unto me,
13 Et je vous chasserai de ce pays dans un pays inconnu à vous et à vos pères, et là vous pourrez servir les autres dieux et le jour et la nuit; car je ne vous accorderai aucune pitié.
Therefore will I hurl you forth, from off this land, unto a land which ye have not known, ye, nor your fathers, —and ye can serve there other gods day and night, in that I will grant you no favour.
14 Aussi, voici, des jours viennent, dit l'Éternel, que l'on ne dira plus: « Vive l'Éternel, qui retira les enfants d'Israël du pays d'Egypte! »
Therefore lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh, When it shall be said no more By the life of Yahweh, who brought up the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt; but—
15 mais: « Vive l'Éternel qui tira les enfants d'Israël du pays du Nord, et de toutes les contrées où je les aurai dispersés! » et je les ramènerai dans leur pays que j'avais donné à leurs pères.
By the life of Yahweh, who hath brought up the sons of Israel out of the land of the North, and out of all the lands whither he had driven them, —So will I bring them back upon their own soil, which I gave to their fathers.
16 Voici, j'envoie des pêcheurs en nombre, dit l'Éternel, et ils les pêcheront; et ensuite j'enverrai des chasseurs en nombre, et ils les chasseront de toutes les montagnes, et de toutes les collines, et des fentes de rochers.
Behold me! sending for many fishers Declareth Yahweh, And they shall catch them, —and thereafter will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from off every mountain and from off every hill, and out of the clefts of the crags.
17 Car j'ai les yeux sur toutes leurs voies; elles ne me sont point cachées, et leur iniquité ne se dérobe point a ma vue.
For mine own eyes are upon all their ways, they have not been hid from my face—neither hath their iniquity been concealed from being straight before mine eyes.
18 Et je leur donnerai d'abord le salaire de leur double iniquité et de leur péché, parce qu'ils ont profané mon pays par les cadavres de leurs abominables dieux, et que d'horreurs ils ont rempli mon héritage.
Thus will I recompense, first, twofold, their iniquity and their sin, because of their profaning my land, —with the carcase of their disgusting and detestable things, have they filled mine inheritance.
19 « Éternel, ma force et mon boulevard, et mon refuge au jour de la détresse! A toi viendront les peuples des extrémités de la terre, et ils diront: « Nos pères n'ont hérité que le mensonge, la vanité: il n'y a là aucune ressource.
O Yahweh, my strength, and my refuge, and my place to fly to, in the day of distress, —Unto thee, shall nations come in, out of the ends of the earth, that they may say—Surely! Falsehood, did our fathers inherit, Vanity, among whom is none that can profit:
20 L'homme se fera-t-il des dieux, qui pourtant ne sont pas des dieux? »
Shall a son of earth, make for himself gods, Seeing that, they, are no-gods?
21 – C'est pourquoi je veux leur montrer cette fois, leur montrer mon bras et ma puissance, afin qu'ils reconnaissent que mon nom est l'Éternel.
Therefore behold me! causing them to know, by this stroke, I will cause them to know my hand and my might, —That they may know that my name, is Yahweh!
