Jérémie 11
1 La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de par l'Éternel en ces mots:
The worde that came to Ieremiah from the Lord, saying,
2 Écoutez les paroles de cette alliance, et dites-les aux hommes de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem!
Heare ye the wordes of this couenant, and speake vnto the men of Iudah, and to the inhabitants of Ierusalem,
3 Et tu leur diras: Ainsi parle l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël: Maudit l'homme qui n'écoute pas les paroles de cette alliance,
And say thou vnto them, Thus sayeth the Lord God of Israel, Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the wordes of this couenant,
4 que je prescrivis à vos pères le jour où je les tirai du pays d'Egypte, du fourneau de fer, en disant: Obéissez à ma voix, et faites tout ce que je vous commanderai, et vous serez mon peuple, et je serai votre Dieu,
Which I commanded vnto your fathers, when I brought them out of the lande of Egypt, from the yron fornace, saying, Obey my voyce, and doe according to all these things, which I commande you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God,
5 pour que j'accomplisse le serment que je fis à vos pères, de leur donner le pays découlant de lait et de miel, comme [vous le voyez] aujourd'hui. Et je répondis et dis: Ainsi soit-il, Éternel!
That I may confirme the othe, that I haue sworne vnto your fathers, to giue them a lande, which floweth with milke and hony, as appeareth this day. Then answered I and sayde, So be it, O Lord.
6 Et l'Éternel me dit: Proclame toutes ces paroles dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem, disant: Écoutez les paroles de cette alliance, et exécutez-les.
Then the Lord saide vnto me, Cry all these words in the cities of Iudah, and in the streetes of Ierusalem, saying, Heare yee the words of this couenant, and doe them.
7 Car je sommai vos pères dès le jour où je les tirai du pays d'Egypte, jusqu'aujourd'hui, les sommant dès le matin et disant: Obéissez à ma voix!
For I haue protested vnto your fathers, whe I brought them vp out of the land of Egypt vnto this day, rising earely and protesting, saying, Obey my voyce.
8 Mais ils n'ont ni obéi, ni prêté l'oreille, et ils ont marché chacun suivant l'obstination de son cœur mauvais; aussi j'exécuterai sur eux toutes les paroles de cette alliance que je leur commandai d'observer, et qu'ils n'ont point observée.
Neuerthelesse they would not obey, nor encline their eare: but euery one walked in the stubbernesse of his wicked heart: therefore I will bring vpon them all the wordes of this couenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did it not.
9 Et l'Éternel me dit: Il existe une conjuration entre les hommes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem.
And the Lord sayd vnto me, A conspiracie is found among the men of Iudah, and among the inhabitants of Ierusalem.
10 Ils retournent aux péchés de leurs premiers pères qui refusèrent d'obéir à mes paroles, et suivirent d'autres dieux pour les servir: la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda ont rompu l'alliance que j'avais traitée avec leurs pères.
They are turned backe to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to heare my wordes: and they went after other gods to serue them: thus the house of Israel, and the house of Iudah haue broken my couenant, which I made with their fathers.
11 Aussi, ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, j'amène sur vous des maux d'où vous ne pourrez sortir; et ils crieront vers moi, mais je ne les écouterai pas.
Therefore thus sayth the Lord, Beholde, I will bring a plague vpon them, which they shall not be able to escape, and though they crye vnto me, I will not heare them.
12 Qu'elles aillent donc, les villes de Juda, et les habitants de Jérusalem! et qu'ils crient aux dieux qu'ils encensent; mais ils ne leur aideront point au moment de leur malheur.
Then shall the cities of Iudah, and the inhabitants of Ierusalem goe, and crie vnto the gods vnto whome they offer incense, but they shall not bee able to helpe them in time of their trouble.
13 Car tel le nombre de tes villes, tel est le nombre de tes dieux, Juda, et autant il y a de rues à Jérusalem, autant vous avez élevé d'autels à l'infamie, d'autels pour encenser Baal.
For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Iudah, and according to the number of the streetes of Ierusalem haue yee set vp altars of confusion, euen altars to burne incense vnto Baal.
14 Mais toi, n'intercède pas pour ce peuple, et en sa faveur n'élève ni supplication, ni prière, car je n'écouterai point quand ils m'invoqueront à cause de leurs maux.
Therfore thou shalt not pray for this people, neither lift vp a crie, or prayer for them: for when they cry vnto mee in their trouble, I will not heare them.
15 Qu'y a-t-il pour mon bien-aimé dans ma maison? La foule y fait le crime. La chair sacrée te laissera à découvert, quand tes maux arriveront; c'est alors que tu seras alarmé.
What shoulde my beloued tarie in mine house, seeing they haue committed abomination with manie? and the holy flesh goeth away from thee: yet when thou doest euill, thou reioycest.
16 Olivier verdoyant, beau de son fruit aimable, tel est le nom que tu reçus de l'Éternel. Au bruit d'un grand fracas Il allume le feu autour de lui, et l'on brise ses rameaux;
The Lord called thy name, A greene oliue tree, faire, and of goodly fruite: but with noyse and great tumult he hath set fyre vpon it, and the branches of it are broken.
17 et l'Éternel des armées qui te planta, t'annonce des calamités à cause de la méchanceté qu'ont montrée la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda, pour m'irriter en encensant Baal.
For the Lord of hostes that planted thee, hath pronounced a plague against thee, for the wickednes of the house of Israel, and of the house of Iudah, which they haue done against themselues to prouoke me to anger in offering incense vnto Baal.
18 L'Éternel m'a informé, et j'ai su…, c'est alors que Tu as mis pour moi leurs œuvres en évidence.
And the Lord hath taught me, and I knowe it, euen then thou shewedst mee their practises.
19 Cependant j'étais comme l'agneau familier que l'on mène à la tuerie, et je ne me doutais pas qu'ils méditassent des plans contre moi: « Détruisons l'arbre avec son fruit, et extirpons-le de la terre des vivants, et que son nom ne soit plus rappelé! »
But I was like a lambe, or a bullocke, that is brought to the slaughter, and I knewe not that they had deuised thus against me, saying, Let vs destroy the tree with the fruite thereof, and cut him out of the lande of the liuing, that his name may be no more in memory.
20 Mais l'Éternel des armées est un juste Juge; Il sonde les reins et le cœur. Je serai témoin de la vengeance que tu tireras d'eux, car c'est à Toi que je me suis ouvert de mes griefs.
But O Lord of hostes, that iudgest righteously, and triest the reines and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for vnto thee haue I opened my cause.
21 Aussi, voici ce que prononce l'Éternel contre les gens d'Anathoth qui en veulent à ma vie et disent: « Ne prophétise plus au nom de l'Éternel, si tu veux ne pas mourir de notre main! »
The Lord therefore speaketh thus of the men of Anathoth, (that seeke thy life, and say, Prophecie not in the Name of the Lord, that thou die not by our hands)
22 Aussi, voici ce que l'Éternel des armées prononce: Voici, je vais les châtier: les jeunes hommes périront par l'épée, et leurs fils et leurs filles périront par la famine;
Thus therefore sayth the Lord of hostes, Beholde, I will visite them: the yong men shall die by the sword: their sonnes and their daughters shall die by famine,
23 et rien ne restera d'eux; car je vais amener des maux sur les hommes d'Anathoth, au temps de leur châtiment.
And none of them shall remaine: for I will bring a plague vpon the men of Anathoth, euen the yeere of their visitation.
