Isaïe 29
1 Ha! Ariel! Ariel! cité où campa David! ajoutez année à année, que les fêtes fassent leur révolution,
Alas for Ariel, Ariel, The city against which, David encamped, —Add ye a year to a year. Let the festivals, come round;
2 et je serrerai Ariel de près, et il y aura des soupirs et des cris; mais alors j'aurai en elle une Ariel;
Yet will I bring Ariel into straits, —And she shall become a bewailing and wailing, Yea she shall become to me a veritable Hearth of God.
3 et je te cernerai comme un cercle, et te serrerai de près avec des bataillons, et j'élèverai contre toi des forts;
And I will encamp round about against thee, —And lay siege against thee with a fort, And raise against thee siege-works;
4 et du sol où tu tomberas, ta parole sortira, et de la poudre s'élèveront sourdement tes discours, et ta voix sera celle d'un spectre sortant de terre, et de la poussière tu murmureras tes discours.
And thou shalt be brought low—Out of the earth, shalt thou speak, And out of the dust, shalt thou lower thine utterance, —And as one that hath a familiar spirit, Out of the earth, shall come thy voice, And out of the dust, thy speech shall chirp;
5 Mais telle la poussière menue, telle sera la foule de tes ennemis, et telle la balle qui s'envole, telle sera la foule des furieux, et cela soudain, tout à coup.
Then shall be as fine dust the multitude of thy foreigners, —And as chaff that passeth away, the multitude of tyrants; And it shall come to pass, in a twinkling, Suddenly,
6 De par l'Éternel des armées il y aura châtiment avec grondement et fracas et grand bruissement, orage et tempête et flamme d'un feu dévorant.
From Yahweh of hosts, shalt thou be visited, With thunder, and with earthquake and a great noise, hurricane and storm and flame of fire devouring;
7 Et comme d'un songe, d'une vision nocturne, ainsi il en sera de la foule de tous les peuples agresseurs d'Ariel, et de tous ceux qui l'assaillent, elle et sa citadelle, et qui la pressent.
And it shall be like the dream of a night vision, With the multitude of all the nations who have been making war against Ariel, —Even with all who have been making war against her and her stronghold and who have been laying siege to her;
8 Et ce sera comme quand l'affamé songe qu'il mange, et il s'éveille, et il a l'estomac vide; et comme quand l'homme altéré songe qu'il boit, et il s'éveille, et voici, il a soif, et son âme languit: ainsi en sera-t-il de la foule des peuples agresseurs de la montagne de Sion.
Yea it shall be As when the hungry man dreameth and lo! he is eating, But he awaketh, and his soul, is empty, Or as when the thirsty man dreameth and lo! he is drinking, But he awaketh and lo! he is faint and his soul, is craving, So, shall it be with the multitude of all the nations, that have come forth to war against Mount Zion.
9 Soyez stupéfaits et étonnés! Aveuglez-vous et soyez aveuglés! ils sont ivres, mais non de vin; ils chancellent, mais non troublés par la cervoise.
Stand ye stock still and stare, Besmear your eyes and be blind, —They are drunken but not with wine, They reel, but not with strong drink;
10 Car l'Éternel versa sur vous un esprit d'assoupissement et ferma vos yeux, les Prophètes, et voilà vos têtes, les Voyants.
For Yahweh, hath poured out upon you, a spirit of deep sleep, Yea hath tightly shut your eyes—the prophets, —And, your heads—the seers, hath he covered,
11 Et ainsi toute la révélation vous est comme les paroles du livre scellé que l'on donne à un homme sachant lire, en disant: « Lis-le donc! » Mais il répond: « Je ne puis, car il est scellé; »
And so all vision hath become unto you as the words of a writing that is sealed, Which is delivered unto one acquainted with writing, saying, Pray thee read this, And he saith, I cannot, for it is sealed;
12 et que l'on donne le livre à qui ne sait pas lire, en disant: « Lis-le donc! » Mais il répond: « Je ne sais pas lire. »
And then the writing is delivered to one unacquainted with writing, saying, Pray thee read this, And he saith I am not acquainted with writing.
13 Et le Seigneur dit: Parce que ce peuple s'approche de moi de la bouche, et qu'il m'honore des lèvres, tandis que son cœur est éloigné de moi, et que la crainte qu'il a de moi n'est que commandement d'hommes appris,
Wherefore My Lord hath said, —Because this people, hath drawn near with their mouth, And with their lips, have honoured me, But their heart, have they moved far from me, And so their reverence of me hath become A commandment of men in which they have been schooled,
14 pour cela, voici, je signalerai ce peuple par des actes insignes et merveilleux, afin que la sagesse de ses sages périsse, et que l'intelligence de ses hommes entendus disparaisse.
Therefore, behold me! again dealing wonderfully with this people, doing wonderfully a wonderful thing, —So shall perish, the wisdom of their wise men, And the intelligence of their intelligent men, shall vanish!
15 Malheur à ceux qui se cachent pour dérober leurs plans à l'Éternel, afin que leurs œuvres soient dans les ténèbres! et qui disent: Qui nous voit? et qui prend garde à nous?
Alas! for them who would fain have been too deep for Yahweh by giving secret counsel, —and therefore in the dark, have been their doings, and they have said Who can see us? and—Who can understand us?
16 O perversité à vous! l'argile sera-t-elle estimée à l'égal du potier, pour que l'ouvrage dise de l'ouvrier: Il ne m'a pas fait! et que la sculpture dise du sculpteur: Il n'est pas entendu!
Your perverseness! As if like clay, the potter could be reckoned; For shall, the thing made say of him that made it, he made me not? Or hath the thing fashioned ever said of him that fashioned it, He hath no understanding.
17 Voici, encore très peu de temps, et le Liban se transformera en verger, et le verger sera estimé à l'égal de la forêt.
Is it not yet a very little while, And Lebanon shall be turned, into garden land, —And garden land, for a forest, be reckoned?
18 Et en ce même jour les sourds entendront les paroles du Livre, et, perçant la nuit et l'obscurité, les yeux des aveugles verront.
Therefore, in that day, shall the deaf hear the words of a book, —And out of gloom and darkness, the eyes of the blind shall see;
19 Alors de plus en plus les misérables se réjouiront de l'Éternel, et les indigents se glorifieront du Saint d'Israël,
And again shall the humbled in Yahweh, have joy, —And the needy of mankind in the Holy One of Israel, exult;
20 parce que le furieux aura fini, que le moqueur sera détruit, et que tous les hommes vigilants pour le crime seront exterminés,
For the tyrant, hath vanished, And the scoffer, is no more, Yea cut off are all who watch for iniquity: —
21 eux qui condamnaient un homme en cause, tendaient des pièges à celui qui se défendait aux Portes, et déboutaient le juste par la fraude.
Who bring a man into condemnation with a rumour, And for him that decideth in the gate, lay a snare, —And have driven away, for a thing of nought, one who was righteous.
22 Aussi, ainsi parle à la maison de Jacob l'Éternel, qui sauva Abraham: Maintenant Jacob ne sera plus confus, et son visage ne pâlira plus.
Therefore, Thus, saith Yahweh, concerning the house of Jacob, [even he saith it] who redeemed Abraham, —Not now, shall, Jacob turn pale, And, not now, shall their faces whiten;
23 Car lorsqu'il verra ses enfants devenus l'œuvre de mes mains dans son sein, ils sanctifieront mon nom; oui, ils sanctifieront le Saint de Jacob et ils révéreront le Dieu d'Israël.
For, when he seeth his children the work of my hands, in his midst, They will hallow my Name, —Yea they will hallow the Holy One of Jacob, And the God of Israel, will they regard with awe.
24 Et ceux dont l'esprit était égaré apprendront la sagesse, et les murmurateurs recevront l'instruction.
Then will they who erred in spirit comprehend, And the murmurers, accept instruction.
