Habacuc 1
1 Oracle révélé à Habacuc, le prophète.
The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
2 Que de temps j'ai crié, Éternel, et tu n'écoutes pas! je crie à toi: violence! et tu ne secours pas!
O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear? I cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save.
3 Pourquoi me rends-tu témoin du crime? et tu es spectateur de nos peines! Et l'oppression et la violence sont devant moi; il y a des débats et la discorde s'élève.
Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and look upon perverseness? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there is strife, and contention riseth up.
4 Aussi la loi est sans vie, et jamais justice n'est rendue, car l'impie cerne le juste, aussi rend-on une justice pervertie.
Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore judgment goeth forth perverted.
5 « Regardez parmi les nations et voyez! et étonnez-vous, soyez étonnés! car je vais faire une œuvre en vos jours! vous n'y croirez pas, si elle vous est annoncée.
Behold ye among the nations, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I work a work in your days, which ye will not believe though it be told you.
6 Car voici, je fais lever les Chaldéens, peuple rude et impétueux, qui s'avance au large sur la terre pour occuper des demeures qui ne sont pas à lui.
For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation; which march through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling places that are not theirs.
7 Il est terrible et, formidable; de lui seul émanent son droit et sa fierté.
They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves.
8 Et plus agiles que des panthères sont ses chevaux, plus rapides que les loups du soir, et ses chevaux fièrement bondissent, et ses cavaliers arrivent de loin; ils volent comme un aigle qui fond sur sa proie.
Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves; and their horsemen spread themselves: yea, their horsemen come from far; they fly as an eagle that hasteth to devour.
9 Tous ils viennent pour sévir; un désir est sur leur visage: en avant! et il entraîne comme du sable les captifs.
They come all of them for violence; their faces are set eagerly as the east wind; and they gather captives as the sand.
10 Et il se moque des rois, et les princes sont sa risée; de tout rempart il se moque; il élève une terrasse et s'en empare.
Yea, he scoffeth at kings, and princes are a derision unto him: he derideth every strong hold; for he heapeth up dust, and taketh it.
11 Puis son audace s'accroît, et il passe outre, et devient criminel, car sa force est son Dieu. »
Then shall he sweep by [as] a wind, and shall pass over, and be guilty: [even] he whose might is his god.
12 Ne fus-tu pas de tout temps l'Éternel, mon Dieu, mon Saint? Nous ne périrons pas! Éternel, tu l'as commis au jugement! » ô rocher, tu l'as assigné pour punir!
Art not thou from everlasting, O LORD my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained him for judgment; and thou, O Rock, hast established him for correction.
13 Toi dont les yeux sont trop purs pourvoir le crime, et qui ne peux être spectateur des maux, pourquoi verrais-tu des impies, te tairais-tu quand le méchant dévore un plus juste que lui?
Thou that art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and that canst not look on perverseness, wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy peace when the wicked swalloweth up the man that is more righteous than he;
14 Tu assimiles donc l'homme aux poissons de la mer, aux reptiles qui n'ont point de souverain!
and makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
15 Il tire tout avec l'hameçon, l'enlève avec son filet, et l'emporte dans sa nasse, et il en est joyeux et allègre.
He taketh up all of them with the angle, he catcheth them in his net, and gathereth them in his drag: therefore he rejoiceth and is glad.
16 Pour cela il sacrifie à sa nasse et encense son filet, car par eux sa capture est riche et sa chère succulente.
Therefore he sacrificeth unto his net, and burneth incense unto his drag; because by them his portion is fat, and his meat plenteous.
17 Faut-il pour cela qu'il vide son filet et toujours égorge les peuples sans pitié?
Shall he therefore empty his net, and not spare to slay the nations continually?
