Genèse 25

1 Et Abraham prit une seconde femme, et son nom était Ketura.

And Abraham took another wife, and her name was Keturah.

2 Et elle lui enfanta Zimran et Jocsan et Medan et Midian et Jisbac et Suah.

And she bore him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

3 Et Jocsan engendra Séba et Dedan; et les fils de Dedan furent les Assurim et les Letusim et les Leummim.

And Jokshan begot Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.

4 Et les fils de Midian: Epha et Epher et Henoch et Abida et Eldaah: tout autant de fils de Ketura.

And the sons of Midian: Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.

5 Et Abraham donna tout ce qu'il avait à Isaac;

And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.

6 quant aux fils des concubines qu'eut Abraham, il leur donna leur dot, et encore de son vivant il les envoya à distance d'Isaac, son fils, vers l'orient, au pays d'Orient.

But unto the sons of the concubines, that Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts; and he sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.

7 Et voici les jours des années de vie que vécut Abraham: cent soixante-quinze ans.

And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, a hundred threescore and fifteen years.

8 Et Abraham expira et il mourut dans une belle vieillesse, âgé et rassasié de jours, et il fut recueilli auprès de son peuple.

And Abraham expired, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.

9 Et Isaac et Ismaël, ses fils, lui donnèrent la sépulture dans la grotte de Macpéla, dans le champ de Ephron, fils de Tsohar, le Héthien, qui est à l'orient de Mamré,

And Isaac and Ishmael his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre;

10 champ qu'Abraham avait acquis des fils de Heth; c'est là qu'Abraham reçut la sépulture, ainsi que Sarah sa femme.

the field which Abraham purchased of the children of Heth; there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife.

11 Et après la mort d'Abraham Dieu bénit Isaac, son fils, et Isaac demeura près de la fontaine du Vivant-qui-voit.

And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed Isaac his son; and Isaac dwelt by Beer-lahai-roi.

12 Et c'est ici l'histoire d'Ismaël, fils d'Abraham, qu'enfanta Agar, l'Egyptienne, servante de Sarah, à Abraham.

Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bore unto Abraham.

13 Et ce sont ici les noms des fils d'Ismaël, nominativement, selon leurs familles: le premier né d'Ismaël Nebaioth, et Cedar et Adbeel et Mibsam

And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the first-born of Ishmael, Nebaioth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

14 et Misma, et Duma et Massa,

and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa;

15 Hadar et Theima, Jetur-Naphis et Kedma.

Hadad, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedem;

16 Tels sont les fils d'Ismaël et ce sont là leurs noms selon leurs parcs et leurs campements, douze princes de leurs tribus.

these are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their villages, and by their encampments; twelve princes according to their nations.

17 Et ce sont ici les années de vie d'Ismaël: cent trente-sept ans; et il expira et mourut et fut recueilli auprès de son peuple.

And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, a hundred and thirty and seven years; and he expired and died; and was gathered unto his people.

18 Et ils habitèrent de Havila à Sur qui est à l'orient de l'Egypte du côté d'Assur; c'est à l'orient de tous ses frères qu'il s'établit.

And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Asshur: over against all his brethren he did settle.

19 Et c'est ici l'histoire d'Isaac, fils d'Abraham.

And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham begot Isaac.

20 Abraham engendra Isaac. Et Isaac avait quarante ans lorsqu'il prit pour femme Rebecca, fille de Béthuel, l'Araméen, de Mésopotamie, sœur de Laban, l'Araméen.

And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean, of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife.

21 Et Isaac éleva sa prière à l'Éternel au regard de sa femme, car elle était stérile. Et l'Éternel se laissa fléchir par lui, et Rebecca, sa femme, devint enceinte.

And Isaac entreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD let Himself be entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

22 Et les enfants s'entrechoquaient dans son sein. Alors elle dit: Si c'est ainsi, pourquoi existé-je? Et elle alla consulter l'Éternel.

And the children struggled together within her; and she said: 'If it be so, wherefore do I live?' And she went to inquire of the LORD.

23 Et l'Éternel lui dit: Deux nations sont dans tes flancs, Et deux peuples se dédoubleront au sortir de ton sein, Et l'un sera plus fort que l'autre, Et le grand sera sujet du petit.

And the LORD said unto her: Two nations are in thy womb, and two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

24 Et le moment de sa délivrance étant arrivé, voici, deux jumeaux étaient dans son sein;

And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

25 et le premier vint, tout fauve comme un manteau de fourrure, et on lui donna le nom d'Esaü (velu).

And the first came forth ruddy, all over like a hairy mantle; and they called his name Esau.

26 Et ensuite son frère sortit et sa main tenait le talon de son frère, et on lui donna le nom de Jacob (supplanteur). Or Isaac avait soixante ans lorsqu'ils naquirent.

And after that came forth his brother, and his hand had hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob. And Isaac was threescore years old when she bore them.

27 Et les enfants devinrent grands, et Esaü devint habile à la chasse, et fut un homme des champs; mais Jacob fut un homme rangé qui se tenait dans les tentes.

And the boys grew; and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents.

28 Et Isaac aimait Esaü, parce que Isaac était friand de venaison, tandis que Rebecca aimait Jacob.

Now Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison; and Rebekah loved Jacob.

29 Et [un jour] Jacob faisait cuire un potage, et Esaü revenait des champs, et il était rendu.

And Jacob sod pottage; and Esau came in from the field, and he was faint.

30 Et Esaü dit à Jacob: Régale-moi donc de roux, de ce roux-là, car je suis rendu. C'est pour cela qu'il reçut le nom de Edom (le roux).

And Esau said to Jacob: 'Let me swallow, I pray thee, some of this red, red pottage; for I am faint.' Therefore was his name called Edom.

31 Et Jacob dit: Vends-moi d'abord ton droit d'aînesse!

And Jacob said: 'Sell me first thy birthright.'

32 Et Esaü dit: Voici, je vais à la mort, à quoi me sert mon droit d'aînesse?

And Esau said: 'Behold, I am at the point to die; and what profit shall the birthright do to me?'

33 Et Jacob dit: Fais-moi d'abord serment. Et il lui fit serment et vendit son droit d'aînesse à Jacob.

And Jacob said: 'Swear to me first'; and he swore unto him; and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

34 Et Jacob donna à Esaü du pain et un potage de lentilles; et celui-ci mangea et but, et se leva et partit. C'est ainsi qu'Esaü méprisa son droit d'aînesse.

And Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.
