Genèse 2
1 Et ainsi furent achevés les cieux et la terre et toute leur armée.
And the heaven and the earth and all things in them were complete.
2 Et Dieu acheva le septième jour son œuvre qu'il avait faite, et Il se reposa le septième jour de toute son œuvre qu'Il avait faite.
And on the seventh day God came to the end of all his work; and on the seventh day he took his rest from all the work which he had done.
3 Et Dieu bénit le septième jour et le consacra, parce que ce jour-là Il se reposa de toute son œuvre qu'il avait créée en agissant.
And God gave his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy: because on that day he took his rest from all the work which he had made and done.
4 C'est ici l'histoire des cieux et de la terre lors de leur création, lorsque l'Éternel Dieu fit les cieux et la terre.
These are the generations of the heaven and the earth when they were made.
5 Or, tous les arbustes des champs n'étaient point encore sur la terre, et toutes les plantes des champs n'avaient pas germé; car l'Éternel Dieu n'avait pas encore fait pleuvoir sur la terre; et il n'existait point d'homme pour travailler le sol.
In the day when the Lord God made earth and heaven there were no plants of the field on the earth, and no grass had come up: for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to do work on the land.
6 Mais un brouillard s'élevait de la terre et imbibait toute la surface du sol.
But a mist went up from the earth, watering all the face of the land.
7 Alors l'Éternel Dieu forma l'homme de la poudre de la terre, et Il souffla dans ses narines l'haleine de la vie, et l'homme devint une personne vivante.
And the Lord God made man from the dust of the earth, breathing into him the breath of life: and man became a living soul.
8 Et l'Éternel Dieu planta un jardin en Eden vers l'Orient, et Il y établit l'homme qu'il avait formé.
And the Lord God made a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had made.
9 Et l'Éternel Dieu fit germer du sol toutes sortes d'arbres agréables à la vue et bons pour la nourriture, et l'arbre de la vie au milieu du jardin et l'arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal.
And out of the earth the Lord made every tree to come, delighting the eye and good for food; and in the middle of the garden, the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10 Et un fleuve sortait d'Eden pour arroser le jardin; et depuis là il se divisait et formait quatre bras.
And a river went out of Eden giving water to the garden; and from there it was parted and became four streams.
11 Le nom du premier est Pison: il entoure tout le pays de Havila, où est l'or;
The name of the first is Pishon, which goes round about all the land of Havilah where there is gold.
12 et l'or de ce pays-là est bon: là se trouve le bdellium et la pierre d'onyx.
And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
13 Et le nom du second fleuve est Gihon: il entoure tout le pays de Cus.
And the name of the second river is Gihon: this river goes round all the land of Cush.
14 Et le nom du troisième fleuve est Hiddekel; il coule à l'orient d'Assur. Et le quatrième fleuve c'est le Phrath.
And the name of the third river is Tigris, which goes to the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
15 Et l'Éternel Dieu prit l'homme, et l'établit dans le jardin d'Eden pour le cultiver et pour le garder.
And the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to do work in it and take care of it.
16 Et l'Éternel Dieu imposa un commandement à l'homme en ces termes: Tu peux manger de tous les arbres du jardin;
And the Lord God gave the man orders, saying, You may freely take of the fruit of every tree of the garden:
17 mais de l'arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal, tu n'en mangeras pas, car le jour où tu en mangeras, de mort tu mourras.
But of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you may not take; for on the day when you take of it, death will certainly come to you.
18 Et l'Éternel Dieu dit: Il n'est pas bon que l'homme soit seul; je lui ferai une aide qui lui corresponde.
And the Lord God said, It is not good for the man to be by himself: I will make one like himself as a help to him
19 Puis l'Éternel Dieu forma de la terre tous les animaux des champs et tous les oiseaux des cieux, et Il les amena à l'homme pour voir quel nom il leur donnerait, et tous les noms que l'homme leur donnerait, aux animaux vivants, devaient rester leurs noms.
And from the earth the Lord God made every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and took them to the man to see what names he would give them: and whatever name he gave to any living thing, that was its name.
20 Et l'homme nomma de noms tous les bestiaux et tous les oiseaux des cieux, et toutes les bêtes des champs; mais pour l'homme il ne trouva pas d'aide qui lui correspondît.
And the man gave names to all cattle and to the birds of the air and to every beast of the field; but Adam had no one like himself as a help.
21 Alors l'Éternel Dieu fit tomber un profond sommeil sur l'homme, qui s'endormit; et Il prit l'une de ses côtes, et referma les chairs en son lieu.
And the Lord God sent a deep sleep on the man, and took one of the bones from his side while he was sleeping, joining up the flesh again in its place:
22 Et l'Etemel Dieu bâtit en femme la côte qu'il avait prise de l'homme, et Il l'amena à l'homme.
And the bone which the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman, and took her to the man.
23 Alors l'homme dit: Cette fois, c'est os de mes os, chair de ma chair! On l'appellera femme-d'homme, parce qu'elle a été prise de l'homme.
And the man said, This is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh: let her name be Woman because she was taken out of Man.
24 C'est pourquoi un homme quittera son père et sa mère pour s'attacher à sa femme, et ils formeront une seule chair.
For this cause will a man go away from his father and his mother and be joined to his wife; and they will be one flesh.
25 Et ils étaient les deux nus, l'homme et sa femme, et ils n'en avaient point de honte.
And the man and his wife were without clothing, and they had no sense of shame.
