Genèse 14

1 Et il arriva dans le temps de Amraphel, roi de Sinear, de Arioch, roi d'Elassar, de Kedorlahomer, roi d'Elam, et de Thideal, roi des Gentils,

And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim,

2 qu'ils firent la guerre à Berah, roi de Sodome, et à Birsah, roi de Gomorrhe, à Sineab, roi d'Adamah, et à Seméber, roi de Tseboïm, et au roi de Béla, c'est-à-dire de Tsohar.

that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar).

3 Tous ils se réunirent dans la vallée de Siddim (qui est la mer Salée).

All these joined together in the valley of Siddim (the same is the Salt Sea).

4 Douze ans ils avaient été asservis à Kedorlahomer, et la treizième année ils se révoltèrent.

They served Chedorlaomer twelve years, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

5 Et la quatorzième année Kedorlahomer et les rois ses alliés vinrent et défirent les Rephaïms à Astaroth-Karnaïm et les Zuzites à Ham et les Emim à Save-Kiriathaïm

And in the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer came, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,

6 et les Horites sur leur montagne de Seïr jusqu'au chêne de Paran qui confine au désert.

and the Horites on their mount Seir, to Elparan, which is by the wilderness.

7 Puis faisant volte-face ils se portèrent sur la Fontaine-du-Jugement qui est Kadès et mirent en déroute toute la contrée des Amalécites, et aussi les Amoréens établis à Hatsatson-Thamar.

And they returned, and came to En-mishpat (the same is Kadesh), and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, who dwelt in Hazazon-tamar.

8 Alors se mirent en campagne le roi de Sodome et le roi de Gomorrhe et le roi d'Adamah et le roi de Tseboïm et le roi de Béla (c'est-à-dire de Tsohar) et ils se rangèrent en bataille contre eux dans la vallée de Siddim,

And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar), and they set the battle in array against them in the valley of Siddim,

9 contre Kedorlahomer, roi d'Elam, et Thideal, roi des Gentils, et Amraphel, roi de Sinear, et Arioch, roi d'Elassar, quatre rois contre cinq.

against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings against the five.

10 Or dans la vallée de Siddim il y avait force puits de bitume; et le roi de Sodome et celui de Gomorrhe prirent la fuite et y tombèrent, et les survivants s'enfuirent dans la montagne.

Now the valley of Siddim was full of slime pits. And the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell there. And those who remained fled to the mountain.

11 Alors ils prirent toute la richesse de Sodome et de Gomorrhe et toutes leurs provisions de bouche et partirent.

And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their food, and went their way.

12 Et ils prirent Lot et sa richesse, le fils du frère d'Abram, et partirent; or il habitait Sodome.

And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

13 Alors arriva un fugitif qui informa Abram l'hébreu; or il habitait sous les chênes de Mamré, l'Amoréen, frère d'Eskol et de Aner, qui étaient les alliés d'Abram.

And some man came who had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew. Now he dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner. And these were allies with Abram.

14 Et Abram apprenant que son frère avait été emmené captif, mit en campagne ses gens éprouvés, serfs nés dans sa maison, au nombre de trois cent-dix-huit, et il poussa la poursuite jusqu'à Dan.

And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.

15 Et ayant formé ses divisions, il les attaqua de nuit, lui et ses serviteurs, et les défit et les poursuivit jusqu'à Chobah, située à gauche de Damas.

And he divided himself against them by night, he and his servants, and smote them, and pursued them to Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

16 Et il ramena toute la richesse, et aussi Lot, son frère, et sa richesse, et aussi les femmes et le peuple.

And he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot, and his goods, and also the women, and the people.

17 Alors le roi de Sodome sortit à sa rencontre, quand après avoir défait Kedorlahomer et les rois ses auxiliaires il fut de retour dans la vallée de Save, qui est la vallée royale.

And the king of Sodom went out to meet him, after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh (the same is the King's Valley).

18 Et Melchisédek, roi de Salem, apporta du pain et du vin; (or il était prêtre de Dieu le Très-Haut; )

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine. And he was priest of God Most High.

19 et il le bénit et dit: Qu'Abram soit béni de Dieu le Très-Haut, maître des cieux et de la terre!

And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth.

20 Et béni soit Dieu le Très-Haut qui a mis tes ennemis entre tes mains! Et il lui donna la dîme de tout.

And blessed be God Most High, who has delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And Abram gave him a tenth of all.

21 Et le roi de Sodome dit à Abram: Donne-moi les personnes et prends pour toi les richesses.

And the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the men, and take the goods to thyself.

22 Mais Abram répondit au roi de Sodome: La main levée vers l'Éternel, Dieu très-haut, Maître des cieux et de la terre!

And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Jehovah, God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,

23 non, du brin de fil à la courroie de la chaussure, je n'accepterai rien de ce qui t'appartient, afin que tu ne dises pas: J'ai enrichi Abram;

that I will not take a thread nor a shoe latchet nor anything that is thine, lest thou should say, I have made Abram rich,

24 j'excepte uniquement ce qu'ont mangé mes gens, la portion des hommes qui ont marché avec moi, d'Aner, d'Eskol et de Mamré: pour eux, qu'ils prennent leur part!

except only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre. Let them take their portion.
