Genèse 12
1 Et l'Éternel dit à Abram: Quitte ton pays et ta patrie et la maison de ton père pour aller au pays que je te montrerai.
Now the LORD had said to Abram, Depart from thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, to a land that I will show thee:
2 Et je te ferai devenir un grand peuple et je te bénirai et te donnerai un grand nom et tu seras une bénédiction.
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 Et je bénirai qui te bénira, et qui te maudira je le maudirai, et c'est en toi que toutes les familles de la terre seront bénies.
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4 Alors Abram s'achemina conformément à ce que lui avait dit l'Éternel, et Lot s'achemina avec lui. Or Abram avait soixante-quinze ans à son départ de Charan.
So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him: and Abram [was] seventy and five years old when he departed from Haran.
5 Et Abram prit Saraï, sa femme, et Lot, fils de son frère, et tout le bien qu'ils avaient acquis et le personnel qu'ils s'étaient fait à Charan, et ils partirent pour gagner le pays de Canaan et ils entrèrent au pays de Canaan.
And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went to go forth into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
6 Et Abram pénétra dans le pays jusqu'au lieu [nommé] Sichem, jusqu'à la chênaie de Moreh. Or les Cananéens étaient alors dans le pays.
And Abram passed through the land to the place of Sichem, to the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite [was] then in the land.
7 Alors l'Éternel apparut à Abram et dit: Je donnerai ce pays à ta postérité. Et il bâtit là un autel à l'Éternel qui lui était apparu.
And the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, To thy seed will I give this land: and there he erected an altar to the LORD, who appeared to him.
8 Et il se transporta de là vers la montagne à l'orient de Béthel, et tendit sa tente, ayant Béthel à l'occident et Aï à l'orient, et bâtit là un autel à l'Éternel, et invoqua le nom de l'Éternel.
And he removed from thence to a mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, [having] Beth-el on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he erected an altar to the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
9 Et de station en station Abram s'avançait vers le Midi. –
And Abram journeyed, going on still towards the south.
10 Et il y eut famine dans le pays: alors Abram descendit en Egypte pour y séjourner, car la famine pesait sur le pays.
And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to dwell there; for the famine [was] grievous in the land.
11 Et comme il était près d'entrer en Egypte, il dit à Saraï, sa femme: Eh bien! voici, je sais que tu es une femme belle de figure.
And it came to pass, when he had come near to enter into Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou [art] a fair woman to look upon:
12 Et il arrivera que lorsque les Egyptiens te verront, ils diront: C'est sa femme! et ils me tueront, mais à toi ils laisseront la vie.
Therefore it will come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they will say, This [is] his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13 Dis donc que tu es ma sœur, afin que l'on me traite bien pour l'amour de toi, et que mon âme vive grâce à toi.
Say, I pray thee, thou [art] my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14 Et lorsque Abram fut arrivé en Egypte, les Égyptiens virent que c'était une femme d'une très grande beauté.
And it came to pass, that when Abram had come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she [was] very fair.
15 Et les Grands de Pharaon la virent et la vantèrent à Pharaon; et la femme fut enlevée et menée dans la demeure de Pharaon.
The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
16 Et pour l'amour d'elle il traita bien Abram, qui eut des brebis et des bœufs et des ânes et des serviteurs et des servantes et des ânesses et des chameaux.
And he treated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he-asses, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and she-asses, and camels.
17 Mais l'Éternel frappa Pharaon de grandes plaies ainsi que sa maison, au sujet de Saraï, femme d'Abram.
And the LORD afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues, because of Sarai, Abram's wife.
18 Alors Pharaon manda Abram et lui dit: Pourquoi en as-tu agi de la sorte envers moi? pourquoi ne pas m'avouer que c'est ta femme?
And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What [is] this [that] thou hast done to me? why didst thou not tell me that she [is] thy wife?
19 Pourquoi dire: C'est ma sœur; aussi me suis-je emparé d'elle pour en faire ma femme? Eh bien! voici, puisque c'est ta femme, prends-la et t'en va.
Why saidst thou, She [is] my sister? so I might have taken her to me for a wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take [her], and go thy way.
20 Et Pharaon lui assigna des gens, qui l'escortèrent lui et sa femme et tout ce qu'il avait.
And Pharaoh commanded [his] men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
