Ézéchiel 20
1 Et il arriva, la septième année, le cinquième mois, le dixième jour du mois, que des hommes d'entre les Anciens d'Israël vinrent consulter l'Éternel, et s'assirent devant moi.
And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth [month], the tenth [day] of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me.
2 Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
3 Fils de l'homme, parle aux Anciens d'Israël et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Est-ce pour me consulter que vous êtes venus? par ma vie, si je me laisse consulter par vous! dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD: Are ye come to inquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you.
4 Les puniras-tu? les puniras-tu, fils de l'homme? fais-leur connaître les abominations de leurs pères,
Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers;
5 et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Le jour où je fis choix d'Israël, de ma main levée je fis un serment à la race de la maison de Jacob, et je me manifestai à eux dans le pays d'Egypte, et levant ma main je leur dis: Je suis l'Éternel votre Dieu.
and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD: In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, Saying, I am the LORD your God;
6 Dans ce même jour, de ma main levée je leur fis serment de les conduire du pays d'Egypte dans un pays dont j'avais fait moi-même la reconnaissance, d'où coulent le lait et le miel; c'est la gloire de toute la terre.
in that day I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands:
7 Et je leur dis: Jetez chacun loin de vous les infâmes objets de vos regards, et des idoles de l'Egypte ne vous souillez pas! Je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
And I said unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.
8 Mais ils me furent rebelles, et ne voulurent point m'écouter; aucun d'eux ne jeta les infâmes objets de leurs regards, et ils ne quittèrent point les idoles de l'Egypte. Alors j'eus la pensée de verser ma colère sur eux, d'achever mes vengeances sur eux au pays d'Egypte.
But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me; they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
9 Mais j'agis en vue de mon nom, afin de ne le pas déshonorer aux yeux des peuples au milieu desquels ils étaient, et sous les yeux desquels je m'étais manifesté à eux, pour les tirer du pays d'Egypte.
But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
10 Et je les tirai du pays d'Egypte, et les menai au désert.
So I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.
11 Et je leur donnai mes ordonnances, et leur fis connaître mes lois, que l'homme doit accomplir, afin de vivre par elles.
And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in them.
12 Je leur donnai aussi mes sabbats pour qu'ils fussent un signe entre moi et eux, qu'ils reconnaissaient que c'est moi, l'Éternel, qui les sanctifie.
Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.
13 Mais la maison d'Israël me fut rebelle dans le désert; ils ne suivirent point mes ordonnances, et ils méprisèrent mes lois que l'homme doit accomplir afin de vivre par elles, et ils profanèrent beaucoup mes sabbats. Alors j'eus la pensée de verser ma colère sur eux dans le désert, de les détruire.
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they rejected my judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly profaned: then I said I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.
14 Mais j'agis en vue de mon nom, pour ne le pas déshonorer aux yeux des peuples sous les yeux desquels je les avais délivrés.
But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.
15 Dans le désert aussi, de ma main levée je leur fis serment de ne pas les amener dans le pays que je leur avais donné, d'où coulent le lait et le miel; il est la gloire de toute la terre;
Moreover also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;
16 parce qu'ils avaient méprisé mes lois, et n'avaient point suivi mes ordonnances, et avaient profané mes sabbats; car c'est vers leurs idoles que leur cœur se tournait.
because they rejected my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, and profaned my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.
17 Mais par pitié pour eux je ne les détruisis point, et ne fis point d'eux extermination dans le désert.
Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make a full end of them in the wilderness.
18 Et je dis à leurs fils dans le désert: Ne suivez pas les préceptes: de vos pères, et ne gardez pas leurs lois, et de leurs idoles ne vous souillez pas!
And I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols:
19 Je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu. Suivez mes préceptes et gardez mes lois, et exécutez-les,
I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them:
20 et sanctifiez mes sabbats, afin qu'ils soient un signe entre moi et vous, que vous reconnaissez que je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
and hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.
21 Mais les fils me furent rebelles; ils ne suivirent pas mes préceptes et ne gardèrent pas, pour les exécuter, mes lois que l'homme doit exécuter pour vivre par elles; ils profanèrent mes sabbats. J'eus alors la pensée de verser ma colère sur eux, et d'achever mes vengeances sur eux dans le désert.
But the children rebelled against me; they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall live in them; they profaned my sabbaths: then I said I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.
22 Mais j'arrêtai ma main, et j'agis en vue de mon nom, afin de ne le pas déshonorer aux yeux des peuples, sous les yeux desquels je les avais délivrés.
Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not he profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them forth.
23 De ma main levée je leur fis aussi serment dans le désert de les disperser parmi les peuples et de les disséminer dans les pays divers,
Moreover I lifted up mine hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations, and disperse them through the countries,
24 parce qu'ils n'exécutaient point mes lois, et méprisaient mes préceptes, et profanaient mes sabbats, et que leurs yeux se tournaient vers les idoles de leurs pères.
because they had not executed my judgments, but had rejected my statutes, and had profaned my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers’ idols.
25 Je leur imposai aussi des ordonnances qui n'étaient pas bonnes, et des lois qui ne les faisaient pas vivre,
Moreover also I gave them statutes that were not good, and judgments wherein they should not live;
26 et je les souillai par leurs offrandes, quand ils consacraient leur primogéniture, afin de les détruire, pour qu'ils reconnussent que je suis l'Éternel.
and I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through [the fire] all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.
27 Aussi, parle à la maison d'Israël, fils de l'homme, et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: C'est encore en ceci que vos pères m'ont outragé par leur désobéissance.
Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD: In this moreover have your fathers blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.
28 Quand je les amenai au pays que de ma main levée j'avais juré de leur donner, ils jetèrent les yeux sur toutes les collines élevées et sur tous les arbres touffus, et y firent leurs sacrifices, et y déposèrent leurs insultantes offrandes, et y apportèrent leurs doux parfums, et y répandirent leurs libations.
For when I had brought them into the land, which I lifted up mine hand to give unto them, then they saw every high hill, and every thick tree, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering, there also they made their sweet savour, and they poured out there their drink offerings.
29 Et je leur dis: Qu'est-ce, que ces hauts lieux où vous vous rendez? Et ce nom de haut lieu leur est donné jusqu'aujourd'hui!
Then I said unto them, What meaneth the high place whereunto ye go? So the name thereof is called Bamah unto this day.
30 Aussi dis à la maison d'Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Quoi! vous vous souillez encore en suivant la voie de vos pères, et leurs objets infâmes excitent encore votre impudicité!
Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD: Do ye pollute yourselves after the manner of your fathers? and go ye a whoring after their abominations?
31 et en présentant vos offrandes, en consacrant, vos enfants par le feu, vous vous souillez par toutes vos idoles jusqu'à ce jour: et je me laisserais consulter par vous, maison d'Israël! non, par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, si je me laisse consulter par vous!
and when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, do ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, unto this day? and shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you:
32 Et ce que vous vous mettez dans l'esprit, n'aura pas lieu, quoique vous disiez: Nous voulons être comme les nations, comme les familles des autres pays, et servir le bois et la pierre.
and that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all; in that ye say, We will be as the nations, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
33 Non, par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel! mais c'est d'une main forte, et, le bras levé, et en versant ma colère, que je veux régner sur vous!
As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I be king over you:
34 Et je vous tirerai d'entre les peuples et vous rassemblerai des pays où vous serez dispersés, d'une main forte, et d'un bras étendu et avec effusion de colère,
and I will bring you out from the peoples, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.
35 et je vous amènerai dans le désert des peuples, et là je vous jugerai face à face.
and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there will I plead with you face to face.
36 De même que j'ai prononcé mon jugement sur vos pères dans le désert du pays d'Egypte, ainsi prononcerai-je mon jugement sur vous, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD.
37 Et je vous ferai passer sous la verge et vous engagerai dans les liens de l'alliance,
And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant;
38 et j'exterminerai du milieu de vous les rebelles et ceux qui se détachent de moi; je les tirerai du pays où ils séjournent, mais ils ne viendront point au pays d'Israël, afin que vous sachiez que je suis l'Éternel.
and I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me; I will bring them forth out of the land where they sojourn, but they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
39 Vous donc, maison d'Israël! ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Allez, servez chacun vos idoles, mais à l'avenir, ne voulez-vous pas m'écouter? ne profanez plus mon saint nom par vos offrandes, et votre idolâtrie!
As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD: Go ye, serve every one his idols, and hereafter also, if ye will not hearken unto me: but my holy name shall ye no more profane with your gifts, and with your idols.
40 En effet, sur ma montagne sainte, sur la haute montagne d'Israël, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, là je serai servi par toute la maison d'Israël, par tout ce qu'il y en aura dans le pays, là je les recevrai favorablement, et là je réclamerai vos oblations et les prémices de vos dons dans tout ce que vous me consacrerez.
For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them, serve me in the land: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.
41 Ainsi qu'un doux parfum je vous recevrai, quand je vous aurai tirés du milieu des peuples, et rassemblés des pays où vous serez dispersés, et par vous je serai sanctifié devant les peuples.
As a sweet savour will I accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you in the sight of the nations.
42 Et vous saurez que je suis l'Éternel, quand je vous ramènerai au pays d'Israël, au pays que de ma main levée j'avais juré de donner à vos pères.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country which I lifted up mine hand to give unto your fathers.
43 Et là vous vous rappellerez votre conduite et tous les crimes dont vous vous êtes souillés, et en vous-mêmes vous aurez du dégoût pour toutes les actions mauvaises que vous avez faites.
And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have polluted yourselves; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.
44 Et vous reconnaîtrez que je suis l'Éternel, quand j'agirai avec vous pour l'amour de mon nom, et non selon vos œuvres mauvaises et votre conduite corrompue, maison d'Israël, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have wrought with you for my name’s sake, not according to your evil ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
45 Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
46 Fils de l'homme, tourne ton visage du côté du sud, et parle contre le midi, et prophétise contre la forêt des campagnes du midi,
Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop [thy word] toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the field in the South;
47 et dis à la forêt du midi: Écoutde la parole de l'Éternel! Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Voici, je vais allumer en toi un feu qui dévorera tous les arbres verts, et tous les arbres secs, et la flamme allumée ne s'éteindra point, et toute la surface du pays en sera brûlée du midi au nord.
and say to the forest of the South, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burnt thereby.
48 Et toute chair verra que c'est moi, l'Éternel, qui l'aurai allumée; elle ne s'éteindra point.
And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.
49 Mais je dis: Hélas! Seigneur Éternel, ils disent de moi: Ne parle-t-il pas en paraboles?
Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! they say of me, Is he not a speaker of parables?
