Exode 34

1 Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Taille-toi deux tables de pierre comme les premières; et j'écrirai sur les tables les paroles qui se trouvaient sur les premières tables que tu as brisées.

And Jehovah said to Moses, Hew for thyself two tables of stone like the first; and I will write upon the tables the words that were upon the first tables, which thou hast broken.

2 Et tiens-toi prêt dès le matin et monte le matin à la montagne de Sinaï, et t'y présente à moi sur le sommet de la montagne.

And be ready for the morning, and go up in the morning to mount Sinai, and stand there before me on the top of the mountain.

3 Et que personne ne monte avec toi, et que personne ne se montre sur toute la montagne, et que ni menu ni gros bétail ne pâture du côté de cette montagne-là.

And let no man go up with thee, neither shall any man be seen on all the mountain; neither shall sheep and oxen feed in front of that mountain.

4 Alors Moïse tailla deux tables de pierre comme les premières, et il se leva le matin et monta à la montagne de Sinaï selon l'ordre qu'il avait reçu de l'Éternel, et il prit dans sa main les deux tables de pierre.

And he hewed two tables of stone like the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning and went up to mount Sinai, as Jehovah had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.

5 Alors l'Éternel descendit dans la nue et s'y rencontra avec lui, et Il prononça le nom de l'Éternel.

And Jehovah came down in the cloud, and stood beside him there, and proclaimed the name of Jehovah.

6 Et l'Éternel passa devant lui et proclama « l'Éternel, l'Éternel, Dieu miséricordieux et clément, patient, et riche en amour et en fidélité,

And Jehovah passed by before his face, and proclaimed, Jehovah, Jehovah God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in goodness and truth,

7 qui conserve son amour jusqu'à la millième génération, qui pardonne l'iniquité, la désobéissance et le péché, mais qui ne laisse pas toujours impuni, faisant tomber la peine des pères sur les enfants et les enfants des enfants jusqu'à la troisième et à la quatrième génération. »

keeping mercy unto thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but by no means clearing [the guilty]; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, upon the third and upon the fourth [generation].

8 Alors Moïse aussitôt se prosterna contre terre et adora

And Moses made haste, and bowed his head to the earth and worshipped,

9 et il dit: Si j'ai pu trouver grâce à tes yeux, Seigneur, que le Seigneur passe au milieu de nous, puisque c'est un peuple au col roide, et pardonne notre égarement et notre péché, et fais de nous ta propriété.

and said, If indeed I have found grace in thine eyes, Lord, let the Lord, I pray thee, go in our midst; for it is a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for an inheritance!

10 Et Il dit: Voici, je conclus une alliance; devant tout ton peuple je veux opérer des miracles tels qu'il n'en a point été produit en aucun pays et chez aucune nation, et tout le peuple, au sein duquel tu es, verra l'œuvre de l'Éternel; car ce que je vais faire avec toi sera terrible.

And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels that have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people in the midst of which thou [art] shall see the work of Jehovah; for a terrible thing it shall be that I will do with thee.

11 Prends garde à ce que je te commande aujourd'hui! Voici, je chasserai devant toi les Amoréens et les Cananéens et les Héthiens et les Phérisiens et les Hévites et les Jébusites.

Observe what I command thee this day: behold, I will drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12 Garde-toi d'accorder une alliance aux habitants du pays où tu entreras, de peur d'avoir en eux un piège parmi vous;

Take heed to thyself, that thou make no covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which thou shalt come, lest it be a snare in the midst of thee;

13 vous détruirez au contraire leurs autels et briserez leurs statues, et arracherez leurs Aschères,

but ye shall demolish their altars, shatter their statues, and hew down their Asherahs.

14 car tu n'adoreras aucun autre Dieu; car l'Éternel, dont le nom est le Jaloux, est un Dieu jaloux;

For thou shalt worship no other God; for Jehovah — Jealous is his name — is a jealous God;

15 garde-toi d'accorder une alliance aux habitants du pays, de peur que, lorsqu'ils se prostituent à la suite de leurs dieux et font des sacrifices à leurs dieux, ils ne t'invitent et que tu ne manges de leurs victimes,

lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and then, when they go a whoring after their gods, and sacrifice unto their gods, thou be invited, and eat of their sacrifice,

16 et que tu ne maries tes fils parmi leurs filles, et que leurs filles, se prostituant à la suite de leurs dieux, n'entraînent tes fils à se prostituer à la suite de leurs dieux.

and thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.

17 Tu ne te feras point de dieu de fonte.

— Thou shalt make thyself no molten gods.

18 Tu observeras la fête des azymes; sept jours tu mangeras des azymes, comme je te l'ai prescrit, à l'époque du mois des épis; car c'est dans le mois des épis que tu es sorti d'Egypte.

— The feast of the unleavened bread shalt thou keep: seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread, as I have commanded thee, at the appointed time of the month Abib; for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt.

19 Toutes les prémices de la maternité m'appartiennent, ainsi que dans tous tes troupeaux tout mâle premier-né du gros et du menu bétail.

— All that openeth the womb [is] mine; and all the cattle that is born a male, the firstling of ox and sheep.

20 Mais le premier-né de l'âne tu le rachèteras au moyen d'un mouton; et si tu ne le rachètes pas, tu l'assommeras. Tu rachèteras tout premier-né de tes fils, et l'on ne se présentera pas devant moi les mains vides.

But the firstling of an ass thou shalt ransom with a lamb; and if thou ransom [it] not, then shalt thou break its neck. All the first-born of thy sons thou shalt ransom; and none shall appear before me empty.

21 Six jours tu travailleras, mais tu chômeras le septième jour, même pendant les semailles et la moisson tu le chômeras.

— Six days shalt thou work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest; in ploughing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.

22 Tu feras la fête des Semaines en offrant les prémices du froment moissonné, et la fête de la rentrée des récoltes l'année étant révolue.

— And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the first-fruits of wheat-harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the turn of the year.

23 Trois fois par an tous tes mâles se présenteront devant le Seigneur, l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël.

Thrice in the year shall all thy males appear before the Lord Jehovah, the God of Israel.

24 Car je chasserai les nations devant toi et étendrai tes frontières, et personne ne convoitera ton pays, lorsque trois fois par an tu iras en pèlerinage te présenter devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

For I will dispossess the nations before thee, and enlarge thy border, and no man shall desire thy land, when thou goest up to appear before the face of Jehovah thy God thrice in the year.

25 Tu n'immoleras point sur du levain le sang de mes victimes, et là victime de la fête de Pâques ne sera point conservée jusqu'au matin.

— Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left over night until the morning.

26 Tu apporteras à la maison de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, la fleur des prémices de ton sol. Tu ne feras pas cuire le chevreau au lait de sa mère.

— The first of the first-fruits of thy land shalt thou bring into the house of Jehovah thy God. Thou shalt not boil a kid in its mother's milk.

27 Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Mets par écrit ces paroles; car c'est aux termes de ces paroles que je conclus une alliance avec toi et avec Israël.

And Jehovah said to Moses, Write thee these words; for after the tenor of these words have I made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

28 Et Moïse fut là avec l'Éternel quarante jours et quarante nuits; il ne mangea point de pain et ne but point d'eau; et il écrivit sur des tables les paroles de l'alliance, dix paroles.

— And he was there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights; he ate no bread, and drank no water. — And he wrote on the tables the words of the covenant, the ten words.

29 Et lorsque Moïse descendit du mont de Sinaï, les Deux Tables du Témoignage étant dans les mains de Moïse qui descendait de la montagne, Moïse ne se doutait pas que la peau de son visage resplendît, parce qu'il s'était entretenu avec Lui.

And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai — and the two tables of testimony were in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mountain — that Moses knew not that the skin of his face shone through his talking with him.

30 Et Aaron et tous les enfants d'Israël regardèrent Moïse, et voici, la peau de son visage rayonnait, et ils craignaient de l'aborder.

And Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come near him.

31 Mais Moïse les appela, et Aaron et tous les princes de l'assemblée se dirigèrent vers lui, et il leur parla.

And Moses called to them; and they turned to him, — Aaron and all the principal men of the assembly; and Moses talked with them.

32 Après cela, tous les enfants d'Israël s'approchèrent, et il leur transmit tous les ordres que l'Éternel lui avait donnés sur le mont de Sinaï.

And afterwards, all the children of Israel came near; and he gave them in commandment all that Jehovah had spoken with him on mount Sinai.

33 Et Moïse ayant terminé le discours qu'il leur adressait, mit un voile sur sa figure.

And Moses ended speaking with them; and he had put on his face a veil.

34 Et lorsque Moïse pénétrait devant l'Éternel pour lui parler, il ôtait le voile jusqu'à ce qu'il sortît; et étant sorti, il redisait aux enfants d'Israël tout ce qui lui avait été ordonné.

And when Moses went in before Jehovah to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and he came out, and spoke to the children of Israel what he was commanded.

35 Et les enfants d'Israël voyant le visage de Moïse, aperçurent la peau resplendissante de son visage. C'est pourquoi Moïse mettait le voile sur son visage jusqu'à ce qu'il entrât pour parler avec Lui.

And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone; and Moses put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
