Exode 24

1 Et Il dit à Moïse: Monte vers l'Éternel, toi et Aaron, Nadab et Abihu et soixante-dix des Anciens d'Israël, et adorez à distance.

And to Moses he said, Go up to the Lord, thou and Aaron and Nadab and Abiud, and seventy of the elders of Israel: and they shall worship the Lord from a distance.

2 Et que Moïse s'approche seul de l'Éternel, mais qu'eux ne s'approchent pas et que le peuple ne monte pas avec lui.

And Moses alone shall draw nigh to God; and they shall not draw nigh, and the people shall not come up with them.

3 Moïse vint donc exposer au peuple toutes les paroles de l'Éternel et toutes les lois, et d'une voix tout le peuple répondit et dit: Nous exécuterons tous les ordres qu'a prescrits l'Éternel.

And Moses went in and related to the people all the words of God and the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, saying, All the words which the Lord has spoken, we will do and be obedient.

4 Alors Moïse mit par écrit toutes les paroles de l'Éternel; puis, s'étant levé le matin, il dressa un autel au pied de la montagne et douze cippes pour les douze tribus d'Israël.

And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and built an altar under the mountain, and [set up] twelve stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.

5 Et il délégua les jeunes hommes des enfants d'Israël pour offrir des holocaustes et sacrifier à l'Éternel des taureaux en hosties pacifiques.

And he sent forth the young men of the children of Israel, and they offered whole burnt-offerings, and they sacrificed young calves as a peace-offering to God.

6 Et Moïse prit une moitié du sang qu'il mit dans des bassins, et avec l'autre moitié il aspergea l'autel.

And Moses took half the blood and poured it into bowls, and half the blood he poured out upon the altar.

7 Et il prit l'acte de l'alliance et le lut aux oreilles du peuple, et ils dirent: Tout ce qu'a prononcé l'Éternel, nous le ferons et nous obéirons.

And he took the book of the covenant and read it in the ears of the people, and they said, All things whatsoever the Lord has spoken we will do and hearken therein.

8 Et Moïse prit le sang et en aspergea le peuple, et il dit: Voici le sang de l'alliance que l'Éternel traite avec vous pour toutes ces lois.

And Moses took the blood and sprinkled it upon the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you concerning all these words.

9 Alors Moïse monta, ainsi que Aaron, Nadab et Abihu et soixante-dix des Anciens d'Israël.

And Moses went up, and Aaron, and Nadab and Abiud, and seventy of the elders of Israel.

10 Et ils virent le Dieu d'Israël, et sous ses pieds c'était comme un travail de saphir transparent et pareil au ciel même en pureté.

And they saw the place where the God of Israel stood; and under his feet was as it were a work of sapphire slabs, and as it were the appearance of the firmament of heaven in its purity.

11 Mais Il ne porta pas la main sur les nobles d'Israël, et ils eurent la vue de Dieu; et ils mangèrent et burent.

And of the chosen ones of Israel there was not even one missing, and they appeared in the place of God, and did eat and drink.

12 Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Monte vers moi sur la montagne et tiens-t'y, et je te donnerai les Tables de pierre et la Loi et l'ordonnance que j'ai écrites, afin de les inculquer.

And the Lord said to Moses, Come up to me into the mountain, and be there; and I will give thee the tables of stone, the law and the commandments, which I have written to give them laws.

13 Alors Moïse se leva ainsi que Josué qui le servait, et Moïse monta sur la montagne de Dieu.

And Moses rose up and Joshua his attendant, and they went up into the mount of God.

14 Et il dit aux Anciens: Attendez-nous ici jusqu'à notre retour auprès de vous. Voici, vous avez avec vous Aaron et Hur; si quelqu'un a un démêlé, qu'il s'adresse à eux.

And to the elders they said, Rest there till we return to you; and behold, Aaron and Or are with you: if any man have a cause to be tried, let them go to them.

15 Moïse monta donc à la montagne et une nuée couvrait la montagne,

And Moses and Joshua went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

16 et la gloire de l'Éternel reposait sur le mont de Sinaï qui fut pendant six jours couvert de la nuée. Et le septième jour Il appela Moïse du sein de la nuée.

And the glory of God came down upon the mount Sina, and the cloud covered it six days; and the Lord called Moses on the seventh day out of the midst of the cloud.

17 Et l'aspect de la gloire de l'Éternel était celui d'un feu dévorant sur la cime de la montagne aux yeux des enfants d'Israël.

And the appearance of the glory of the Lord was as burning fire on the top of the mountain, before the children of Israel.

18 Et Moïse pénétra dans l'intérieur de la nuée et monta sur la montagne, et Moïse passa quarante jours et quarante nuits sur la montagne.

And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and went up to the mountain, and was there in the mountain forty days and forty nights.
